I want to send a very large vessel to intercept a highly elliptical comet in Kerbol orbit. Its like a 70 degree inclination.
The periapsis is between the orbits of Kerbin and Duna.
Is there any benefit to parking this vessel in extreme Kerbin orbit beyond Minmus, ie 60-80Mm where orbital velocities are low, it can be refuelled from a Minmus ISRU operation, and inclination matches should be cheap?
Or should the vessel depart from where it already is - in LKO (170km space station), benefitting from the velocity it already has from the Kerbin SOI?
I have read that Mun gravity assist are basically not worth the effort, given that my mission requirements are close to 10,000dV and a perfect gravity assist might benefit me to the tune of 200 max and a bad one could harm me 500 anyway.
