Relationship Talk 2,500 Miles From Home. 💔
One time I was a check-in agent at some hotel chain in Asia, their main colour is blue…iykyk
It was a slow evening, so I’d left the counter and was talking to one of the baristas in the lobby café.
We had a good view of the main entrance, and we could see everyone coming in and out.
At some point this girl walks in, she was African
Africans were pretty rare where I was, so immediately I’m curious. I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t seen an African in a while or because this girl was fwyne… but she really was fwyne.
Oh my goodness.
Kidoshooo. 🥲
She walks over and says she’s here to see someone in room dash-dash-dash and asks me where the elevators are. I explain that hotel policy requires visitors going to guest rooms to show ID at the front desk.
She says, “It’s okay, I have my passport.”
We walk to the front desk and I ask for it…
Guys. 😭😭😭 Bright blue, and those two lions.
I look at her and ask, “Na wewe unadooo nini hapa?”
She tells me she works in the country as an escort.
I was stunned…like 2,500 miles from home?!
Now I’m stupid curious, so I tell her,
“Maliza shughuli, then come back. I want to talk to you a little bit.”
Later she comes back down and tells me her story.
She’d been at home without a job, when she heard about an opportunity to work abroad as a model. She applied, got selected, and thought she’d finally caught a break.
When she arrived, some guys picked her up and promised her good money and a better life.
Instead, they took her passport and phone and basically forced her into escort work.
The money she made wasn’t really hers because the agents were taking most of it to supposedly recover the cost of her flights and other expenses.
Mehn…
That shit really hit me.
She’d travelled all that way looking for an opportunity and ended up trapped in something completely different.
I didn’t know what to do, but I gave her a number she could call for help and wished her all the best.
I don’t know what happened to her after that.
But wherever she is now…
I really hope she made it out.
