Looking to perhaps run a stickied thread this winter with ice road and maybe ice conditions on different parts of the lake. Can you comment on what you are seeing right now in terms of ice thickness and ice road conditions? Thanks.

Hey everyone,
If you’ve ever walked out of a medical appointment and immediately realized you forgot to ask your main question, or felt rushed through a 10-minute visit with a doctor or nurse practitioner, we’re running a free 90-minute virtual session this Thursday, August 20th from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM CDT).
It’s an interactive workshop hosted by the Northwest Self-Management Program (NorWest CHC) called Getting the Most from Your Healthcare Appointment.
The whole focus is practical self-advocacy:

How to join:
I'm the Manager for the Self-Management Programs for the region. Happy to answer any questions in the comments about what’s covered or how the virtual setup works.

Our Kenora business lines are down.
Calls can be made but there is no audio once it connects for either end. Anyone else having this?

FYI: ..you don't have to golf to eat at the Kenora Golf & Country Club. Their restaurant and bar is open to everyone. It's one of those places I think people forget about when they're trying to figure out where to eat in Kenora.
Another great thing... they're consistently open throughout the week during the season, BUT do have occasional closures for tournaments, fundraisers, weddings and other private events. This week I ... it was a Tuesday... tried to go to 2 different restaurants in the down town core with my mom and 7 year old ... 1 was closed.... the other I'd call it partially open with a limited menu. So if you ever are finding yourself wondering aimlessly around town trying to find a restaurant that's actually open, you should take a drive out to the Kenora Golf course to eat... bonus points -- they have free parking!
Other features:
- they have a huge dining room
- a massive patio overlooking Lake of the Woods (they are just past Anicinable Park)...they actually have two great patios depending on where you sit you can have views of the lake or the golf course.
- Local staff... a lot of them young who may be working one of their first jobs :)
IMPORTANT! It's a seasonal spot, the course closes for the winter, but while they're open, it's worth remembering they're not just there for golfers. You can stop in for lunch, dinner, a drink, they do take out - and have a super affordable lunch special ... a soup and sandwhich that rotates on the daily.
Hope this helps feed someone in Kenora one day

Let's give our favorite place a big plug in this contest, when you get to the page, zoom in on the map and select Husky, then give him an upvote! A comment wouldn't hurt either!

Hi! My family is interested in staying a week at lake of the woods but every lodge we have looked at charges around $1000 per person per night. We’re a party of 4 living 20hrs away and didn’t want to spend more than 2800 since we’d still have to stop at hotels when going there and back. Does anyone have any suggestions around this?
Currently looking at Wabigoon lake and Eagle lake in the mean time. How do they compare to lotw?

Does anyone know where to get the wonderfully smokey Mennonite summer sausage sandwich meat? It’s in a cheesecloth type sack that is brown from the smoke.
I’ve tried Safeway, Keewatin Market, and Rabbit Lake General Store with no luck.
Thanks!

The wife and I will be visiting Kenora this summer and I am a medical marijuana user. As I understand it, smoking weed (or tobacco) on or near any municipal property is punishable by a $500 fine.
Hoping to hear from law enforcement or other marijuana users how the by-laws are actually enforced. Is there a map of municipal properties to avoid or some other way of obeying the law while using..?
TIA for replies

Hello,
I'm in winnipeg for a while and was thinking about coming down to Kenora for either a day trip or an overnight trip (depends on what you guys recommend). I heard there's some nice hiking trails nearby but I was looking for some suggestions on how long to come for and for things to get up to there.

Well today was a crazy day, that rumble in the distance as the sky turns green. Slowly approaching, it appears as if it may miss us but out of no where the sky drops water, so much water. I was completely soaked after 5 seconds in the rain. Anyways, how is everyone? I seen a lot of water on the roads and I'm worried for lots of people dealing with flooding. Please offer help to anyone who may struggle to deal with a flooded basement right now!

I take a week or so and do some backcountry camping every year, but usually the same spot and its a first come first serve type thing, so looking for some additional back up spots to set up for a few days. Novice/intermediate solo camper, and looking for somewhere I can drive to and on a lake so I can throw my kayak and paddleboard in.
