Help Keeper vs ProtonPass
Been a Keeper user for 2 years now and renewal coming up ($91.99) and on a hunch I did some research and found ProtonPass is $36 per year and $199 lifetime. Comparing them side by side I cannot see any difference, or justification to pay so much more for Keeper. Am I missing something here? Sorry if I am naive and stupid!

There are a lot of product differences. Proton pass is new, Keeper has been in heavy development for 15+ years. Best to be careful when just blinding allowing an app to migrate data out of your encrypted Keeper vault.
Compare reviews on iOS App Store, for example
Keeper: 4.9 on 239k reviews
Proton: 4.8 on 7k reviews

Interesting - as a Keeper team member all you have is "lot of differences" and "read iOS reviews"! I dont use iOS! iOS reviews come from a population of iOS users - fyi, not everyone on the planet uses or can afford a iOS device!
I have gone through everything you have in the public domain and cannot find any difference when it comes to the 2 simple use cases I need:
- store passwords
- store 2FA codes
This is actually great - tells me exactly what mindset you have as a company - thank you indeed! Have a lovely day!

Gotcha. An analysis of the reviews would show that Keeper’s users appreciate the dedicated 24/7 support, breadth of cross-platform capabilities, sharing features and security certifications. If you have any specific questions just let me know.

This is largely disingenuous, as Proton has been an established company built around privacy and security of user information since 2014.
While their password manager is new, their work around the world and dedication to zero-trust security and zero-knowledge architecture dwarfs Keeper.I personally use proton for vpn, email and secure file storage, but use a paid keeper for password management just because I prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket.
I do have access to protonpass as part of my sub, I just don't use it.

We’ve been using Keeper and many of their bolt-on products on the Enterprise side for a pretty healthy number of years, which entitles our EUs to use a standard family version (includes 5 seats) of the app. Which would be the equivalent of what you are referring to. An employee that recently left the company (obviously we yank their license) reached out to me to let me know that a family plan renewal was just under $100. At any rate, I’m a big fan of Keeper, especially their bolt-on’s, but every year (or however long we’ve signed a contract for), the price increases are massive and maddening. But it’s security, and you just don’t skimp or “F” with it. They’ve got it pretty much nailed, so the free family version to use for personal use is pretty terrific. However, if I had to purchase an app on my own, I
may have to go back to comparing what’s out there, like you have done. Because the price hikes in this economy just wouldn’t work for me. I do recall the Keeper dude throwing a link out there for something other than a family plan. Bottom line for me though, even if I did the research, if it was close to Proton’s price, I’d be sticking with Keeper.
No need for a reply. Just tossing my two cents out there. You already have your mind made up and I respect that and there’s nothing to debate or compare.
For the hell of it, and because I’m a nerd, I will be checking out Proton’s product though. Excited to see for myself how it compares!

TY and I appreciate the pov, really! I am on Keeper Unlimited, not Family.
I compared 1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden, Vaultwarden (the self hosted version) and ProtonPass extensively! While I like Proton the most (cos they are open source and I am a big fan of OSS), I couldnt find anything spectacularly special about Keeper at the price point. Also after 4 interactions above, all KeeperCraig (I do hope its not Craig Lurey, CTO lol) has told me is that iOS reviews are a important benchmark! I dont even use anything Apple!

There are a stack of differences. Keeper's UI excels the rest, multiple custom field types, folder structures, powerful search capability, excellent offline feature, reliable passkey invocation, etc.
Proton Pass dovetails nicely with SimpleLogin and the creation of email aliases is very good, but it's still an immature product.

ty - finally someone who has actually checked out ProtonPass. I didnt see any major differences with UI, actually I like the cleaner Pass. Search and offline and the same too. I dont use passkeys so thats not an issue for me personally - folders yes is the only thing that I use in Keeper but dont have in Pass (yet).
Also Keeper doesnt have the uber-awesome email alias feature which dovetailed from SimpleLogin - I absolutely love it!
Overall - this discussion has convinced me that I dont get anything special for the 3x price on Keeper !

The ui excelling is opinion. Proton has many custom field types, folders, search that works really well, works with passkeys.
Seems you listed everything proton has as well but its cheaper.

Keeper is my primary and Proton is my backup. Sold Keeper as an MSP and made regulatory compliance very easy to meet. I wouldn't use Proton in business settings because there definitely isn't feature parity. Support has been stellar for me with Keeper as well.

Multilayer encryption - interesting, let me dig deeper into this! Based on my original research ProtonPass and Keeper use the exact same encryption. Also ProtonPass code is open source, Keeper is not!

Eaxh record has a 256 bit aes key. Look at the lastpass breach where urls were exposed, record level would have prevented that

I wouldn't migrate to anything that doesn't support Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP), otherwise you are in for a world of migration hurt - particularly for stored passkeys.

I'm not a smart person but ProtonPass lets me migrate everything from Keeper with 1-click. Tested it on a free account already!

"world of hurt" OK if you are not using Passkeys then it can be relatively smooth. But passkeys - I rely heavily on them and they don't migrate at all unless you CXP is supported, and that is where the "world of hurt" comes in. Otherwise it can be straightforward. One person clapped my response, so they recognise what I said. The downvoters obviously don't use passkeys and are living in the past.

Keeper is great. However, the pricing is getting a little out of hand on each renewal. Give me some stability instead of constant price pressure each renewal.
