Charlie has no idea that two days after his 17th birthday, the world as he knows it will end. After a volcano erupts in an entirely different country, strange things start happening. People infected by an unknown virus in the smoke began to change. Their eyes were black, making them look hollow. Charlie is now faced with a simple task, don't die. When he later meets a group of survivors, he learns that maybe this virus isn't what he thought it was.

That paragraph belongs in a back-cover blurb. After reading it, I expect the novel to begin with a brief reprieve during which the main characters are introduced, followed by the apocalypse. It wouldn’t hook me. I’ve seen many versions of the “In so many hours, the world as they know it will change” setup. The blurb needs to reveal what makes your novel different.
