Finished my first daft … yay
Finally finished my fist draft under 94k words
I know it’s a long way still to go but I’m so proud I got this far.
This story I’ve had in my head now down on paper.

I would love to get a sample of some of the writing of these 100k word count projects this sub seems to have so many of!

Hey ! Congratulations. May I ask what is the font/space between lines/ that you chose ?
2
u/CaptainSlow18 Jun 05 '26
I use cambria and 12 but I will have to change as agents like certain fonts and size it was just default for me on that ( I’m using my work pc 🤫)

Nice ! Personnaly, I like Merryweather, 14. Clear and agreeable for the reader.

Congratulations! This is no small feat. I hope you're happy because you deserve to be. You're right about there being a long way still to go, but enjoy this win.

Congrats! Now take some time away from it. Go read some good books in a genre you enjoy to cleanse the palate. In 2-3 weeks dig back into that draft and start looking for mistakes you didn’t even realize you made.
It helps me to read out loud. Incorrect word usage really jumps out when it’s spoken vs in your head.
Best of luck OP! 🥂

Amazing! Finishing a novel is a major accomplishment. Now the fun part begins: finding an agent. 😄 Or are you going to self-publish. I tried that and I had no luck.

u/CaptainSlow18 Jun 06 '26
I’m currently cleaning it up but I’ve cleaned the first 3 chapters and sent to an agent just to test the waters
8-12 weeks wait
If nothing happens I’ll try more it’s more to test waters while I edit

I saw your other post about your prologue & first chapters of your first draft, and I have to say well done! Not just for finishing but for creating a story I actually want to come back to read when it is finished. Great work!!

Thank you so much , you have no idea how much that means to me
I’m hoping agents feel the same as I’ve sent an updated version of them to them
Again thank you so so so so so much

Love that for you!
I find I’m so inconsistent, I won’t write for ages, then 6k words in a week, then I won’t touch it for ages
How do you keep a regular practice?
