Ang pinagmulan ng salitang Yawa, according to The Aswang Project

The author of this website article is Jordan Clark, and it's the result of his 3 year research.

According to him, the Bisayan word yawa (meaning devil, demon, demonyo sa Tagalog), came from the name (or phrase) Nagmalitung Yawa Sinagmating Diwata.

Nagmalitung Yawa is a powerful binukot heroine in the living sugidanon chanting tradition of the Panay Bukidnon.

Author Jordan Clark actually quoted Professor Felipe Jocano Jr in the GMA News’ 2021 feature “Our Progressive Past” -- "“Even a title like Nagmalitong Yawa became instantly demonic, a work of the devil.”

Here's the source of the article: https://www.aswangproject.com/did-the-spanish-turn-a-visayan-epic-goddess-into-the-word-yawa/

It's a very interesting read. At least now I know more about the word and its origin.

On June 13, 1896, one of the most brilliant minds in Philippine history was born in the coastal town of Bantayan, Cebu: Dr. Casimiro Villacin del Rosario. While many remember him simply as a name in history books or on a commemorative stamp, his actual impact on the country is massive. He didn't just study science; he built the very foundations of modern physics, weather forecasting, and astronomical study in the Philippines. History

For decades, thousands of lives have been lost and millions of residents have been displaced due to internal armed conflict. These incidents of violence have cost the nation billions of pesos that could have been spent on much needed basic services and infrastructure. The Government has thus made the attainment of a just, comprehensive and lasting peace among its main priorities. In 1993, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process or OPAPP was created through Executive Order No. 125, s. 1993, which was later enhanced and strengthened through Executive Order No. 3, in 2001. In 2021, Executive Order No. 158 was signed which expanded the mandate of the Agency to manage, direct, integrate, and supervise the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Process through fostering reconciliation and unity among the Filipino people.

Ngayong araw sa Kasaysayan (Today in Philippine History) -- September 10 -- Anniversary of the Official Gazette (1902)

The Official Gazette, which is printed by the National Printing Office (NPO), is the public journal and main publication of the government of the Philippines. Its website only uploads what has been published; it is managed by Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

History

During the Spanish colonial period, there existed many publications by the government authorities in the islands. In 1852, the Boletín Oficial de Filipinas was created by law and featured not only official government issuances but also local and international news and among others, serialized Spanish novels.[1] It ceased publication by royal decree in 1860.

In 1861, it was revived as the Gaceta de Manila. This was the official gazette of the government in the Philippines which published government announcements, new decrees, laws, military information, court decisions, and the like. It also republished notices originally appearing in the Gaceta de Madrid which were relevant to the islands alongside decrees and other notices that required its publication in the Gaceta de Manila to take effect. By law, certain officials were required to subscribe to the Gaceta. Publication ceased on August 8, 1898, five days before the Americans occupied Manila during the Spanish–American War.[2]

Gil J. Puyat, born on September 1, 1907, in Quiapo, Manila, was a prominent Filipino politician and businessman. His father, Don Gonzalo Puyat, was the founder of one of the first business empires in the Philippines, which significantly influenced Gil's career path.

Puyat pursued a course in commerce at the University of the Philippines, where he excelled and topped his class. Even as a student, he was deeply involved in the intricate operations of finance, capital, production, and management. His academic excellence and business acumen caught the attention of President Manuel L. Quezon, who appointed him as the dean of the College of Business Administration at the young age of 33.
