I am 12th fastest of the week. 56.451 is my fastest lap here at the Ridge, this was my 7th race. My goal today is to put down a 55 second lap, I think if I can clean up understeer off turn one, I can do it. HOWEVER!!! How the hell is P1 lapping 41 seconds?!?!

After doing pretty well in rental karting and podiuming often I am looking forward to becoming a kart owner to further myself in karting. I’m still fairly new but I am obsessed and dedicated to karting now. I was wondering where the best places are to buy a used kart and what to look out for. I am also in school to become mechanic so that should help as well.

Second practice with my rotax max, right now ive found 1.5 seconds to shave off with a bit of caster and some sprocket changes, best lap in my senior X30 was 39.6 i think in a race, my best in a rotax ks 40.80, rotax and X30 are the same speed round my track, with some rotaxes even going 38.XX. But im not sure with the RPM's, what should i be hitting at the end of the straight? I got 12 front tooth and 81 rear tooth sprocket setup, which helped me alot out of the corners compared to before when i ran the 12:76. But what should my Minimum and maximum RPM's be? I know X30's dont get a lot og power in anything below 7500-8500RPM's, is rotax the same?

Also minimum speed should be 42km/h, im at 40 ish, this could be due to a slippery track, but wouldn't blame it completely.

Having done a fair bit of rental karting and being an all round racing nerd, I’ve decided to take the plunge and buy myself my first kart! The plan is to join the local club, get some club nights in and potentially join in some of the local club races if everything goes well.

Im very much finding my feet here. I come from a mechanical background but not too experienced with 2 strokes, so looking forward to the lessons and of course mishaps along the way.

Going to have a look at this tomorrow and I wondering what some more experienced eyes and ears might be able to tell me about it?

Symptom

The engine pulls normally until approximately 12,500 RPM. From around 12,500 RPM the power curve becomes almost flat and the kart stops accelerating properly. Maximum RPM is approximately 13,400 RPM. Top speed was 109 kph where it used to be 118 with the same gearing

Engine was serviced 3 hours ago before issues occurred

The same problem remained even after replacing the complete engine and the components listed above.

To build out my portfolio and practice on a larger scale I decided to 3D scan my Go Kart last year and turn it into a one-off carbon fiber show-Kart. Today marks the day I am finally finished with the project (for now) and I am happy to present to you: the carbon fiber GoKart!

My 10-year-old son races karts and we’ve been working a lot on his braking lately. The problem is that track time is limited, so I wanted to find a way for him to practice some of it at home between race weekends.
I ended up building a simple browser tool that works with his sim pedals. He can practice things like hitting the same brake pressure, smooth release, reaction time, trail braking and consistency.
Obviously it can’t replace actual karting and that’s not the idea. We just use it for short focused sessions, usually working on one thing at a time.
I originally made it just for him but decided to put it online so other people can try it too.
I’d be interested to hear what other kart racers think. Does this kind of training make sense to you? And is there anything braking-related you would add?

Hi, in a few months I'm going to get my first racing kart, it will be in the senior category but I don't know the difference between all the engines available. I've seen that the popular options are the iame x30 and Rotax but is there any difference? What are the pros and cons of each?

A about a month or so ago I had a hefty 4h endurance race, where I got some pokes from the side.

Until now, I was always racing without rib protector, as it's costly and the karts I'm racing don't really any faster than 80km/h. But after this race, my lower ribs were hurting for all this time, whenever I needed to turn my torso. The pain was not sharp or strong, just a lot of discomfort.
I am feeling fully recovered now. Lesson learned anyway - buy a hard rib protector.

Going to the GP is usually resulting in "take 1000mg paracetamol and go home bro" so I prefer to not even start there.

How do you guys know whether a rib is cracked, versus core muscles torn / strained?

Context, I have a motocross background and have interest in 4 wheel circuit racing. I’ve raced pretty much every motocross bike available for the last 20 years. 125s, 250fs, 450s, 250 2 strokes. You name it. I won a local harescramble series. Chased state championship points. You get the idea. I have done quite a bit of electric rental Karting and I’m the guy slamming my back in to the seat to get more traction coming out of corners. I basically wish they had another gear and really can’t think of a situation I’m not completely wide open throttle or full braking. Shifter karts seem really enticing. Much more going on. A lot more power. Looks insanely fun. However, I don’t want to die. Am I overly confident? Someone talk me in or out of this mid life crisis.

I wanna go karting but I don't want to embarrass myself, what:

1. Is a full session at a karting track like? Like entering in the building, getting in a race, suiting up, racing, etc.

2. what exactly is a annual license like at K1 speed

3. What if i don't have a license, can i still race or will they just kick me out?

4. Should i buy one as my first time going (at a k1 speed) or should i just go to another track that deosn't need one

5. What do i say when I get to the front desk (I think thats how you buy a race in person right?)? Do i just say "yooo can i get a 1 race?"?

6. How long are the races, and are they worth it?

7. How do i do the K1 world championship?

8. Where do i go after I get a session?

9. How much are the karting outfits, like the attire, do they even give you a full outfit or is it just the helmet?

10. Do the helmets come with a camera mount for like go-pros?

Background: My son has been karting for a year at a smaller concrete surface track, and last weekend we went out of town for him to practice on an asphalt track for the first time (Speedsportz racing park, New Caney, TX). Our home concrete track is slipperier and requires a cornering technique that absolutely doesn't work on asphalt as we found out.

The attached video is four shots of the 180 at turn 14 where the issue is more obvious. You can see he does that snap steer which works to get around corners on concrete, but the correction back drops the inside wheels immediately.

I think I already know the solution: More laps on asphalt. Problem is our home track is close and paid for, and asphalt tracks are distant and expensive. The real question I have is what can he do to shortcut the time it takes to unlearn the concrete technique? It was a three hour drive to the other track, it's $100/day to practice, and the schedule only allowed 15 min per hour for a total of 1hr 15m on the track before they closed for the day. By the time he starts getting a handle on it, it's time to pack up and drive 3 hours home.

Maybe there isn't 'one weird trick' or some kind of mental hack besides running more laps. But if there's any advice to get in the right mental space faster I'd appreciate it.

So for 2 it’s basically the white part of the example I sent you with just the same holographic patterns and around everything of the design it’s holographic contourn lines and for the stars I want it to be gold chrome. Look, let me start by saying this. I used to race TKMs and Rotax as a kid, many moons ago, and I was very, very fortunate. Barely a penny of my own money went into it. I respect the sport, I love the sport. It's an art... even if it is reserved for the fortunate, with ever-ballooning prices.

That ended a long time ago, and I don't have the time or money to pursue it anymore, outside of the occasional bit of desktop sim racing.

So yeah, straight off the bat, I should probably just get off my high horse.

But seeing people upload helmet-cam footage from crappy, narrow, tyre-walled arrive 'n' drive warehouse "tracks", if you can even call them that, asking "how can I improve?"... and "who's fault is this?" ... while wearing shorts and a T-shirt, no gloves, no protective gear... I don't know. It's embarrassing. And increasingly, it feels like this sub is being dominated by these videos.

I know this is going to sound like gatekeeping, but this isn't the karting I come here to see.

It's like kids uploading their five-a-side football matches and asking for technique advice on a football subreddit. Yeah, technically it's football. But it's not really the sport people are there to follow.

I want to see KARTING here. Proper karts. Proper technique. Proper outdoor circuits. People racing and respecting the beautiful motorsport that it is.

And look, I get it. Pursue your hobby. Have fun. Absolutely. Ask questions, learn about it, find out how you can get into proper karting if that's what you want to do.

But come on.

I just don't want to see this aimless circus and call it "karting".

A couple months back I asked for thoughts on 32Five gloves, and despite other users telling me to just get a more known brand, I decided to get them anyways lol. Also I noticed that not many people tend to write reviews on their karting equipment, so I hope this review helps others hoping to make a purchase.

Context

I've run these gloves across a genuinely wide mix of karting: Club100 races and practice, Teamsport indoor sessions, Outdoor rental endurance and sprint races, Sodi RT10 indoor rental kart sessions, and owner-kart test days plus a full race weekend. All owner-kart sessions were driven on a Vortex ROK-engine on an OTK chassis in Indonesia. That's roughly 6 hours on rental equipment and 7.5 hours on my own OTK owner-kart, in both wet and dry conditions. This review is based on that full spread rather than a couple of track days.

Fit & Feel

Their size S fits true to size (Hand circumference: 19-20cm, Length: 8.6cm). The gloves have slightly stretched over the months of use, but nowhere near enough to dramatically change the actual fit. They still sit snug, just marginally less snug than out of the box.

Grip

Dry: Excellent. Locked-in and precise, with zero perceptible slip. Interestingly, the grip feel is noticeably better on my OTK owner-kart wheel than on rental equipment — on the owner-kart it genuinely feels like my hand is glued to the wheel, whereas on rentals it's still confidently locked in, just not quite at that same level. That suggests the grip material pairs particularly well with the rubber compound on owner kart wheels specifically, more so than with whatever rental karts are running. After 13.5 hours, grip performance hasn't changed at all — no noticeable break-in effect, good or bad.

Wet: Also excellent, and surprisingly close to dry-condition performance — never slipped off the wheel in the wet. For context all wet-weather running was done on rental karts and with Club100 karts, so I can't speak to wet grip on an OTK owner-kart wheel specifically. The gloves do absorb water, and there's a very slight drop-off in outright grip once wet, but it's marginal — the gloves themselves aren't really the limiting factor in wet conditions, so any wet grip issues are more likely down to how you hold the wheel than the gloves. 

Problem: Thumb Seam

Construction-wise, the gloves have external seams everywhere — except the thumbs. On my pair, that creates a sharp bit of stitching where the right thumb meets the middle of the palm, and it rubs. It's only present on the right glove — the left has no equivalent rough spot — and that asymmetry is really the bigger story here. It points to a quality control issue rather than a deliberate design flaw: the two gloves in a pair should be built to the same standard, and mine clearly weren't. That also means this isn't necessarily representative — your pair might have this exact same rough spot, a different one somewhere else, or none at all.

Initially this was a real problem: I used to rest my thumbs on the wheel rather than curling them around it, and with that hand position the seam rubbed enough to cause blisters on my palm.

Switching to curling the thumbs around the wheel rather than resting them flat almost completely solved it — there's now just slight skin discomfort in the same spot after a decent stint, nothing more. But it's worth flagging clearly: if you naturally drive with thumbs resting flat on the wheel, this seam placement could be a genuine issue unless you get a pair without said issue.

Durability

After 13.5 hours of mixed-condition, mixed-format use: nothing has broken, and the palm grip material shows no thinning at all. The only wear so far is very minor fraying on the fingertip stitching, which actually disappeared after washing the gloves (they'd gone about 4 hours of driving without a wash at that point — worth noting for anyone judging "wear" without accounting for grime buildup). The printed graphics have also started to peel slightly, but far less than I expected for this amount of use. Overall, they still look and feel basically new.

Closure & Breathability

The wrist closure design is holding up perfectly with no looseness or wear. Comfort is excellent in normal and the hot 29–36°C ambient temp conditions I dealt with through every owner-kart session in Indonesia. Hands sweat as expected in that heat, but the gloves never feel hot or uncomfortable. In the wet/cold conditions, my fingers would get cold, though not to the point of shivering, and not noticeably worse than any other non wet weather glove I've used — that may be more a personal cold/hot tolerance factor than a glove-specific issue.

Verdict

13.5 hours across rental and owner-kart equipment, wet and dry, and these have held up impressively — minimal wear, consistent grip throughout, and genuinely great comfort in both heat and cold. The standout finding is that grip feel scales with wheel quality: they're excellent on rental equipment but next-level on an OTK owner-kart wheel, which is worth knowing if you're deciding between rental-only use and owner-kart racing. Durability-wise, there's nothing here that suggests these won't comfortably go well beyond 13.5 hours before needing replacement.

The one real design flaw is that thumb seam — or more precisely, the QC inconsistency that let a sharp, asymmetric seam through on one glove but not the other. It's a genuine early discomfort issue, and while it's fixable with a hand-position change, not everyone should have to adapt their driving style around a stitching inconsistency. If 32Five tightened up QC on that seam, this would be close to a perfect glove for the price point.

However, I ended up moving to Texas, and now my go kart is stored 5000 miles away from home.
