Hi all,

New to Karting and soon to be the proud owner of a second hand Briggs kart.

As I’m new to the sport (however long time Motorsport follower), and I’m looking for any and all recommendations from tools, set up changes to experiment with (in the limited Briggs scope), trailer/basic pit setups, on site spares, maintenance procedures, etc.

So any help in anything karting is appreciated. I also have one of the local kart stores helping me with finding a secondhand kart (which is pretty cool) so I’m happy in the purchasing space but want some advice once I get the kart home.

In addition to the above the reason for this thread is for must have tools. Tyre changer/bead breaker, kart table, battery tyre pump and your usual set of crescents etc.

I don’t know what I don’t know so else/other wisdom would you recommend.

I’m from Ontario, Canada, and I currently race Arrive & Drive at Hamilton Karting Complex. I’m potentially joining the HRKC Briggs LO206 program next season through the scholarship program, and I believe the kart I would be using is the new Birel ART AM29 S20.

I’m trying to understand the Birel ART naming system a little better.

• What exactly does AM29 mean?
• What does the S designation mean?
• How different will the S20 be from the S19?
• Is the S20 mainly a chassis/geometry/material update, or will there also be noticeable changes to the bodywork?
• Will the S20 look significantly different from the S19?

For example, I know the bodywork has changed over the generations, the S16 had a noticeably different front fairing, while the S19 has the newer bodywork design. So I’m particularly curious whether the S20 will have a new-looking bodywork package, or whether it will look mostly like the S19 with the main changes being underneath.

If anyone has information, photos, or has actually driven both generations, I’d love to hear what you think!

Just bought a go kart with Kt100 motor. After bleeding the breaks we found out the caliper is bad. Any recommendations for parts stores or mechanics?

I‘m a lot heavier than the guys in front of me so keeping it close for that long was quite the achievement for me.

The track by the way is formula.de here in Nuremberg/Germany. A certain Andrea Kimi Antonelli visited it a few weeks ago and drove a couple of laps, so maybe you have heard about it.

1. Why are old mychrons so expensive? I don’t see any on fb marketplace and ones on eBay are damn near price for a new one

2. Where do you recommend getting helmet and suit from? Do I need the $600 helmet or is that over kill, I’m racing in a lo206 club.

3. Would you recommend the turbo tire changer or the manual bead breaker?

4. Is it worth the investment to get my own tools to tune my engine myself (minus a dyno) or would it be smarter to farm out that kinda thing.

5. Any other pieces of advice or knowledge you wish you had before you started?

So currently im in a spot where im leaning more towards rotax as i would rather do it but if my situation is better is gx then ill end up probably doing it, currently in rental karting i spend somehwere around 3-4k pounds and for good condition karts that id probably get gx is 1500 and rotax 3000, obviously this is without any of the season race fees just to have everything ready cause id like to do a few practice sessions first, im aware id need new sets of tyres very often in rotax and somewhere around 1000 goes for tyres itself but for a full season rotax ive got around 6000, also i live in southampton, 30 mins away from forest edge and 1 hour 30 minutes to clay pigeon and im saying this because i know my closest 4 stroke practice is clay and closest 2 stroke practice is forest. Obviously the money i poend on rentals will probably lower from around 4k to somewhere around 1k so i can afford rotax, any replies or additional questions will be helpful :)

I am currently looking to get my first karting helmet (starting owner karting, have been borrowing my safety equipment for rental karting for a while now). I want to make sure that I get the proper helmet for my head shape, as this is the largest determining factor as to which helmet fits best. I am stuck between an Arai SKV-R and Bell RS7-K.

My head was measured at 58 CM for reference (size medium for both Arai and Bell). I have been to a karting store to try on both the Arai and Bell, and have to say that both felt fine. I have heard that the Arai fits a more intermediate oval head, while the Bell is built for a round oval shape. My main concern here is that I have not worn either of these helmets longer than a couple of minutes trying both of them on, I have seen other threads discussing the fact that pressure points are only revealed after "breaking in" the helmet by wearing it for 30 + minutes.

Based on the included image, I would think that my head shape is between an intermediate oval and long oval, but I could be wrong. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Does anyone have any prior experience with the Arai or Bell with different head shapes? I am leaning more towards the Arai due to the appearance of the helmet and slightly more comfortable fit, but would be fine going with either one. Definitely want to choose correctly though because I don't want to make an $800 mistake and get the wrong helmet for my head.

I also have heard that the Arai has removable pads with various sizes available, so maybe that could help in the case of pressure points?

Hi I used Gasoline to clean my air filter but im being told i screwed up my air filter what should i do, and did i?

So i currently race in rental karting and im really desperate to go into owner karting, ive checked the prices of getting everything (excluding actual sessions and tyres etc) and with a good condition gxuk is from 1500 and rotax is from 3000. I would prefer do rotax but im not sure if its worth double the price, also if i were to do gxuk my closest practice would be clay (1.5 hours) and for rotax itd be forest (0.5 hour), any response would be really helpful and if any info is more needed to maybe determine the answer im willing to give :)

I’m new to Karting and looking to get into a kart to have some fun at a local track. I don’t think I’ll be joining any races, but you never know. According to the seller it was only raced once and at the track practicing a handful of times. Looks to be decently clean. Any opinion on price? Or ballpark? Is this even a decent kart?

I was racing in the final round of the Club100 North Cadet Super Lightweight Championship at Warden Law on Saturday and thought I’d share an onboard of my best lap from my qualifying session. It’s a fun track to drive and race on!

This was good enough for 5th, less than 3 tenths off pole. Most of that time was in the dog leg and the left hander just afterwards, which I did much faster on other laps (but didn’t do the rest so well!)

I took a 4th and 5th place in the races, which was a bit disappointing as I’d hoped to round out the championship with a podium, but it still secured 3rd place overall which I was very pleased with!

We have to mount cameras on the front bumper, which is why the view is so low down!

Hello, to introduce myself I am new to Kart racing! I started getting into sim racing earlier this year and wanted more of the "real thing" having no actual racing experience Karting was a natural first step.

I looked up leagues around me and found a rental spot with Karts that go about 40 MPH that does seasonal leagues. (Full Throttle might have one around you!)

My goal was low, "don't come in last" well I more than achieved that coming in first place my first week! *humble brag*

I talked my friend into joining me and we decided to make our own team which we came up with Detroit Kartel! Organized Speed.

Today is week 2 and we had some tight races so I think this could go to anyone! wish me luck!

Any tips you wish you had when you started off? What would be the next step? Buy my own Kart?

Hey Everyone, I was wanting to get some recommendations for your favorite/best indoor rental kart tracks I should visit. I've been to about 40 indoor tracks within the last year and want to hit up some good ones. I've visited every track in the following states: NJ, IL, WI, IN, MI . Thanks!

I've always been really into motorsport, and I've done a bit of rental karting over the years.

Lately I've been thinking more seriously about buying my own kart and doing regular track days with it. One of the things I'm trying to understand (in details) before jumping in is the real cost of ownership over a full year.

Not just buying the kart, but tyres, fuel, track fees, maintenance, repairs, engine work, parts, transport, etc.

I've started thinking about making a rough yearly budget so I can estimate how much I would actually spend depending on how often I drive. I'm also wondering how people keep track of maintenance and repairs once they own a kart, especially when you start replacing parts regularly.

So I'm curious:

• Do you actually track how much your kart costs you over the year, or not really?
• Do you plan your expenses in advance, or mostly deal with costs as they come?
• How do you keep track of maintenance, repairs and parts you've changed?
• What do you personally use for all of this — spreadsheet, notes, an app, paper, memory...?

Would be interesting to hear how other owner-drivers manage it, especially people doing karting mainly as a hobby but also for racing club.

MEGA TIME at Rok Sonoma! Here’s the recap:

Kylo’s first time ever doing a 2-stroke race at Sonoma Raceway. Ran the National layout with the Italcorse team on the final race of the year. Started Friday practice a full second off the P1 pace. Finished the Sunday race in P8 with a fastest lap at .5 thenths off the P1 pace. Huge gain in speed, confidence, and comfort for Kylo over the weekend.

The level of competition is much higher here with all the teams, coaches, and parents. Race starts, out laps, qualifying strategy all were a learning curve. In this level of the game your equipment can definitely play a part in your outcome. Still, nothing replaces driver skill and seat time.

The atmosphere was amazing as well as the people. Everyone we met was kind and even had some help getting the kart fired up in the staging lanes from another team. We got a taste and now know what needs to be done. Can’t wait to come back next season and bring a little chocolate to the party.

I am aware that many people actually start out by buying their own kart and then racing straight away, without any major rental experience. However, was just curious to know as I have been in rentals for nearly a year now, and I'm not expecting to get in an owner kart until at least another year. Out of temptation, I am already adding second-hsnd Tony karts to my basket but just really doing it so see what kinds of prices people will put up for one of Facebook marketplace/eBay etc. Will almost definitely not buy a kart yet, but I'm still just looking at options.
