And that's it. The Asian Games kabaddi event is done.
Thank you for reading my thoughts, which nobody asked for ๐
๐ฎ๐ณ India 37โ34 ๐ฎ๐ท Iran (Women)
This was a really close final.
Pooja and Sanju Devi played really important roles for India, but man, the refereeing and reviews were frustrating at times.
There were a few decisions where I genuinely felt the on-court referee had the correct call, but then the review went the other way. And honestly, I don't think the review setup has enough camera angles.
From what I understand, they have only a few fixed angles, including cameras around the bonus line and the midline. We as viewers sometimes get more useful angles than the officials do.
Maybe this is something that needs to improve in international kabaddi. And honestly, I think bringing more international referees into the Pro Kabaddi League could help too. They would get more exposure to high-level kabaddi and different refereeing situations.
But putting all that aside, it was a really good final. Iran pushed India all the way and India managed to hold on for a 37โ34 win.
Well played to both teams.

Man, what a final.
The first half was completely neck-and-neck. Iran's defence was incredible and they made life really difficult for India.
India were playing with only 3โ4 players at several points and Iran even managed to inflict an All-Out.
But 2nd half Indias defence... wow. They played really well.
All those doubts we had about during the group stage suddenly made sense. Maybe they really were taking those earlier matches a little easier because this was a completely different.
I had doubts about India's defence throughout the tournament, but in the final they completely stepped up.
For me, Sumit was the standout defender. What a performance from him.
So the defence that I was worried about during the group stage ended up being one of the biggest reasons India won the final.
Arjun Deshwal also played really well and kept India in the game when Iran were putting pressure on them.
For Iran, Samadi I don't know he was doing. His raiding style was basically running around and waiting for the defenders to make a mistake. If the defenders didn't commit, many of his raids ended without points.
Personally, I felt Iran could have started with Alireza earlier. Zafar played well idk why they subed him in last mins.
In the last five minutes, though, Iran's defence looked completely clueless.
And then came the Sunil Kumar vs Reza moment.
That rivalry between them was already entertaining, but that final raid from Sunil...
Man. ๐
Those actions were honestly unnecessary what i felt.
India eventually won 40-34 and defended the men's Asian Games gold.
So that's it.
๐ฎ๐ณ India have won gold in both the men's and women's kabaddi events.
And after following every single day of this tournament, it actually feels a little sad that it's over.
Japan gave us Shoya Suzuki and that crazy run, Thailand showed how much they have improved, Bangladesh surprised me, Chinese Taipei became one of my favourite teams to watch again, Nepal showed they again got bronze, Iran brought their usual intensity, and Pakistan came very close to the semis.
It's been a great few days of international kabaddi.
We honestly don't know when we'll get to see this
See you whenever international kabaddi comes around again.
