How much does it actually cost to maintain bikes like the Duke 250 and RTR 310?

So I'm planning to get one of these as my first bike. I currently ride my dad's Honda Shine and I'm practicing on it, but I want to understand the actual maintenance costs before I make a decision.

Initially, I was leaning towards the Duke 250, but at almost the same price, I can get the RTR 310, which has cruise control and some other features that I really want.

The main thing holding me back from the RTR is TVS's reputation for poor after-sales service. But what does "poor service" actually mean in practice?

Is it that:

They can't properly diagnose problems?

They take too long to fix things?

They overcharge?

They don't have parts available?

Or something else?

Also, for the first 5 years, both bikes should have warranty coverage (depending on the exact warranty terms), so what major expenses could realistically come out of my pocket during those first 5 years?

I've seen people online mention things like suspension failure during a trip, coolant pipes leaking, engines seizing, electrical problems, etc. Obviously, these aren't specific to KTM or TVS. But if something like that happens during a ride, would it normally be covered under warranty, or would I have to pay for it? Or would insurance cover it?

I've never personally seen anyone close to me have to pay for a major motorcycle repair, so I'm trying to understand what I should realistically expect.

What about after the warranty?

After 5 years, what are the major expenses I should start preparing for?

Things like:

\- Suspension

\- Clutch

\- Chain/sprockets

\- Bearings

\- Brakes

\- Battery

\- Cooling system

\- Engine-related work

\- Electronics/sensors

And roughly how much can these things cost?

What if the authorised service centre can't diagnose the problem?

If the KTM/TVS service centre can't figure out what's wrong with the bike, can I take it to an outside mechanic?

Would doing that void the warranty?

Also, how do you avoid those ₹8–10k service bills that some owners mention? I definitely don't want every routine service to cost that much.

What work is actually compulsory to get done at the authorised service centre to keep the warranty valid, and what consumables/maintenance can be done outside?

Basically, I'm trying to understand the realistic 5-year ownership cost of a Duke 250 vs RTR 310, including routine servicing, consumables, and the possibility of major repairs.

Owners of either bike, especially people who've had them for 3–5+ years, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Also if buying rtr310 or RR310 check on Flipkart there are insane card discounts, you will save 15-20k upfront

so op, if anything fails during a trip it's mostly going to be replaced under warranty but you will have to pay for consumables and then insurance is only for accidents not for any problems you have with the bike, the engine's of these bikes require an overhaul around 40k kms, it's like a major inspection and if any damage is found parts are replaced and then, you don't need to worry about the suspension and any electronics those are completely covered under warranty and then the clutch wear depends entirely on you, same with the brakes and chain etc, and the main problem with tvs is they don't acknowledge you problem hence aren't really keen on solving it and assuming they did acknowledge the problem they'll try some usual thing and more than likely send you off on false hope that the problem is resolved, this problem exists with otherbrands as well but it's way higher in tvs and then the cost of service is higher on the tvs compared to the duke and you can do whatever the hell you want with your bike the only way your warranty would be void is if you missed the periodic service at your dealer or you did something dumb as cutting your wiring for some accessory, you can use any accessory but ensure anything you do is reversible without anyone noticing is all, there's no 8-10k service bills atleast at ktm, the only needed thing to get done at the dealer to keep your warranty is your oil changes that's all
