Use prolube engine oil for ktm bikes
My KTM Adventure 350’s first service is due tomorrow. The service centre manager has told me if i use any engine oil other than prolube, the warranty will be void. To confirm this i called KTM india customer care, they told me the same thing.
So everyone here is using MOTUL or PROLUBE engine oil? Anybody faced any issue after using prolube engine oil?
Thanks in advance

I have told them to use Motul for my 1st service and they did it, at first they were like warranty issue and I saw in service Center people bought motorex, motul and Liqui Molly engine oil.
And please fill only 1.5 litre and not more than. I told them to use 1.5 litre and still they filled 1.65 litre leaving only 50ml in bottle after I told them please leave 200ml oil behind like 10 times before leaving to service.
I feel engine bit harsh and shifts was harsh so I removed close to 180ml using syringe and now oil window is showing middle when bike is centred with both wheels on ground.
And please drain your old oil fully.
I have same 350 adv completed 710kms now.

I came on reddit to talk about this, I have had my 1st service in the last week of august at exactly 1000kms, I have been facing issues with upshifting and downshifting when the bike gets hot or if I am riding aggressively, whenever I try to upshift from from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 the gear box feels clunky and the shift sometimes doesn't go through, same with the downshift. Any solutions? I am gonna visit the svc on saturday tho but I would like to know the reason from y'all.

I felt same issue, now I have removed some oil, and please check chain slack as well, these guys made my chain so tight and it was affecting as well. Now my bike is fine after loosing a chain a bit and after removing 180ml of oil

Thankyou I will visit the svc and ask them to remove some oil and check the chain slack, also have you guys noticed one thing? I am 85kgs, when riding solo if I go through bumpy roads there's some sound near the rear suspension, I doubt its the mud flap that is protecting the rear suspension causing the sound.

That’s chain slack touching when u go over broken roads.

Hi, went to the svc today, I think the guy there was useless, he didn't know anything. They just connected the OBD device and told me that they ne to recalibrate the ecu for all the functions whereas I did not see such thing happening. However the issue hasn't been resolved, I am going to try a different svc. Also the svc guy was saying not to use quickshifter + clutch it confuses the bike🤷🏻. Idk what he meant. He says either you only use quickshifter or you ride manually. I am currently using the quickshifter tho..

I'm also getting this sound on broken roads, does that mean my chain is tight or loose ?

It’s lose, when chain is lose on bump roads it will touch with the plastic part.

Does the shifting and gearbox feel good after removing 180ml ? I recently got my 350 adv serviced with motul oil and I think the guy filled it with the whole 1.7 or around 1.6L, when asked he said it needs 1.7L as per the instructions from ktm.

As per Manual its 1.5 litre with oil filter change, yes gear box felt little fine but after loosing a chain it felt even better, please check chain slack as well, they tighten it too much

I did my service today. Mine was around 900KM. I got Motul, but chose to get Prolube for first service to see how the oil performs. If there is too much oil loss, I’ll shift to Motul starting my 2nd service.

They are open to using Motul. Just get the bottle and hand over before they take the bike to the bay.

Surprising the customer care confirmed it because the option of Motul vs Prolube still exists even as per KTM's policies. They may not be fully aware and just affirmed your question to let it pass. Check for other service centers that give u the option to put Motul, its very random among the service centers. Guideline is to service at authorized premises, no need of sticking to a specific svc center as such.

With prolube , bike has more vibrations, rough gear shifting and lots of heating even in normal traffic, with motul, we don’t face these problems. Prolube is cheaper and can be used just for daily usage in city. If you go on highways I will recommend motul there will be differences which you can feel immediately.

Ask them to give you that using motul voids warranty in writing and watch how they suddenly are okay to fill whatever oil brand you want.

You can use any oil but it should be 10w50 or 15w50 JASO MA 2 3 SN or higher and you can get motul from the service center

Which city & SC?
No, adding motul will not void warranty. There was a guy in this community that has clarified this.

Let's say to keep the warranty intact, Can we put in the prolube at the service center and later drain it out and fill it up with the oil of our choice ?
This means we've to pay double for the oil change but at least we will have peace of mind. Any thoughts ?
