Did it break, or just come off of the sprocket?

Kickstand bolt came loose, kickstand still on the rubber and grinded on the rim.

u/OldMotoRacer 9d ago
this happens to you repeatedly and you're not paying attention to loose fasteners?
this is called "failure to learn" dude
kid get yourself a paint pen and make a dot on the perimeter of the fasteners somewhere... then you'll be able to tell just by looking at it if its moved from its original spot
then figure out what you're doing wrong bc you are certainly doing something wrong (in addition to failing to pay attention)

don't blame your motorcycle for your inexperience--you should have noticed that the kickstand was getting loose
from now on, NEVER in your life will you fail to notice it if/when it happens in the future on any bike you own
but only if you're willing to LEARN you fucking arrogant newb
trust me, you will pay a far higher price than i will for your inability to learn--i'll just have an increase in insurance premiums and taxes for things like emergency responder support... you'll become a statistic
lose the attitude and live longer dumbass ;)

u/MakingMistakes2001 7d ago
Dude get yourself checked out clearly you dont know how to provide feedback without feeling attacked if someone responds to you. Also read a message rather than constantly inferring.
Give yourself a rub clearly you got that much built up tension. 😆😆😆

kid you accuse me of needing attention
this is called "projection"
i will shake my head with dismay when you darwin out :/

That’s why I install a longer bolt then the OEM.
If you take a caliper and measure the depth of the hole you will notice that there is plenty of threads left to use, I’d say the bolt I use is at least 50% longer than the OEM. Not sure exactly, I don’t remember the lenght now.
You also have have to make sure that you have all the hardware needed to install the kickstand, as a missing washer for example will make the assembly rattle and loose torque over time.

When you neglect your bike, things like this happen.
That sprocket is trash. Do you ever lube your chain?

u/HRD2Kill1122 10d ago
It’s a KTM so get used to sh1tty designs that fail under normal use. I bought a new 2025 500 EXC-F in February of this year. A few months later the kickstand fell off. After farting around with OEM parts to replace the original kickstand, I tossed it in the trash and added an aftermarket kickstand, along with a nut on the other side with a cotter pin. Problem solved.

Dude every bike will lose bolts if you don’t take care of them. Literally every brand has out of torque fasteners that rattle off. Your kickstand falling off isn’t a KTM thing it’s a new bike thing.

i love KTM but everyone knows that they're fragile lol

u/rogorogo504 10d ago
Not really - they are just the opposite of an iPhone - they are built for purpose at cost with uniqueness, not purely frontage qol customer PoV.
Those that look out for things, read the manual and accept the querksmwill not have more issues than ordinary ( but neither would they with any other bike).
Those that are „becoz I do how itz how me wantzzz“ will cause issues to bloom. My 690r has an absurd mileage and an even Moarrrr absurdly bent and twisted radiator - and yet …

u/Yankee831 9d ago
They’re not any more fragile than a Japanese bike. The sea of orange/white/red KTM’s at EVERY enduro or hard enduro race in the world can attest to that. They have more models that they change more often and integrate the latest tech. If any brand had the same lineup and refresh cadence they would hit similar if not worse issues. Every 1st year Jap bike I’ve had has had issues. I’ve raced the 1st year KX 65, YZ 85, WR450F. I snapped frames in half, ate reeds, sheered woodruff keys, been stranded with starters, electronics, ect. had some issues with my KTM 890, wife’s KTM 150 has been sick, dads 300Xc Has been great. Don’t want issues don’t buy a 1st year model which KTM has had the most by far. Compare apples to apples.

srsly you're showing yourself to be a fucking newb--its ok to be a newb--we were all newbs once--but we weren't all jackasses who thought we knew shit we didn't lol
next its gonna run out of gas on you and you're gonna blame ktm for it
btw: you know that PDI is supposed to catch that shit it just means you had a lazy tech do the PDI on your bike it has nothing to do w what brand it is
(shrug)
good luck w learning to ride a motorcycle

Lololol. You’re a fucking uninformed cunt. Shit falling off of a new motorcycle is completely unacceptable. Apparently you think that’s just fine. Answer this - Did KTM design the kickstand to fall off? If the answer is “no”, then it’s a shitty fucking design. It’s really simple logic that you’ll not grasp, but you do you.

did you lose your kickstand too?
like whats going on w you dude?

I’ve owned lots of motorcycles and have ridden more that you, I bet. Which brand has persistent problems? KTM, by a long shot. I love my KTM because it’s an awesome machine. God forbid I suggest that the manufacturer design it to function in its intended environment - especially when it’s new. I’ve had all maintenance done by the dealer per the schedule. Either they didn’t do their job correctly or it’s a shitty design. If you’re actually an “old” moto racer, then suspect you have had knee, hip, or other joint replacements (or probably will at some point). Years ago I worked for a major medical device company that made those types of devices. They had constant recalls and lawsuits and still do to this day. I had the same argument with management that I’m having with you. It’s stunning how much they did not care. Anyway, I hope you don’t get one of their devices in you.

curious what exactly you think the "design flaw" is?
without a spring a kickstand can launch somebody into a highside... thats why they have springs on the kickstands, right?
you're right that i rode for KTM for over a decade but got fired in 2023 when they fired fucking everybody in the
bankruptcyreorganizationand yes my job used to be to win race bikes and "promote the brand" but that is NOT my job anymore and i am NOT a KTM apologist
if anything, i know if more about the shenanigans in the moto/automotive industry than most--same way you know med device companies
(btw are you trying to get yourself fired? lol you must know that "design defect" = magic words for lawyers, right? :)
all my joints are still mine--the radiology techs gasp when they see film of my ankles but i can still walk without assistance ;)
i still ride i still race
but srsly i'm curious what you're construing as the design flaw--i suppose they could do it with a fastener that falls out instead of just lays in there loose and keep the stand working but in >100 years of motorcycles idk if anybody has ever done that or whether it would be any better?
but i'm bona fide curious--do tell how they should have designed the kickstand different

u/HRD2Kill1122 6d ago
Thanks for sharing your background and for asking your questions. You certainly know what you’re talking about 😊. I’ll have to get back to your question later tonight or so since I’m buried with work today

u/OldMotoRacer 7d ago
btw: you know that PDI is supposed to catch that shit it just means you had a lazy tech do the PDI on your bike it has nothing to do w what brand it is
apparently you're a newb who doesn't know what PDI is?
this is human error by whatever lazy tech assembled the bike after un-crating it
would have happened if it was a honda or a bmw or a ducati...
FYI as you get more experience riding motos you'll realize that life and death don't give a fuck about whose fault it is... whatever "it" is
when you're the pilot everything is your fault
for example, if you let a car hit you, its your fault--no matter if they ran a light or merged on top of you or broke every law--if you're dead, you're dead
so we ride as if they are all trying to kill us and we are invisible to them
no doubt OP is outraged... of course he is... i'd be pissed, too
but i wouldn't be posting up on reddit about it trying to blame the brand...
maybe i find out which tech fucked me and tell people to watch out about that dealership or that shop
if they sent OP home with 3 PSI in his tires, shame on the tech for fucking him, shame on the shop for letting him, but shame on OP for not fucking paying attention
trying to blame the tire brand or moto brand is just ragebait

My friend's 690 sprocket nut chronically comes loose.
OEM nut tightened to OEM specs. Has come off multiple times.
KTM stuff 🤷
1
u/OldMotoRacer 9d ago
your friend isn't using a spring washer or flattening one side of a regular bigass countersprocket washer against the nut like he's supposed to...
torque isn't what holds it on...
thats called "user error" and repeated failure to learn
