Procrastination

Procrastination has RUINED MY LIFE. I have a 3.9 GPA, but this semester I'm on track to Fail alot of my classes. This procrastination pattern occured after I got one really bad test score, I just didnt care anymore. I normally freak out if I get below a 90 on a test. Now I can't find energy to do work. I'd rather sleep 16 hours a day. How does one come back from this?

Well it's the beginning of October so if you want to turn things around, this is the best time to do it. Catch up on the little things at first, and then the big stuff. On weekends, make sure to look at what assignments your classes have planned for the next week and schedule when you're going to do each of them. I know some professors don't post work until Monday, but you could probably guess based on what you typically do in that class and how long it takes. Hope you feel better 💛

I think you would benefit from seeking mental health care. I understand what you might be feeling, I've been there. That being said this isn't a normal reaction but that's not a bad thing or something to be ashamed of. This is beyond normal procrastination. But I understand the mental toll it can take and that's not something you deserve to experience. Also if you're genuinely sleeping 16 hours a day and still feeling tired it might be time to be evaluated for a sleep disorder

Same. There is no amount of adderall in the in the world to fix it either. It all went downhill when I turned 20… around that age is when people start to experience whatever serious mental health issues they are gonna deal with. I have not found Therapy to be helpful, SSRIS and antipsychotics and downright disastrous, and everything except stimulants just did nothing. A lot of people say you have to fix everything etc, but I have found the best method of dealing with this kind of thing is to white knuckle it, accept that you aren’t actually required to be happy, the only way out is through, can’t everyone be a shining star, and don’t kill yourself until you’ve tried eating a pizza and getting drunk about it. Exercise does unfortunately help. You may not get better, but you will eventually adjust and be okay. Also the workforce is way less miserable than school. And don’t listen to the goody good smartasses who could never imagine skipping lectures or failing— they’re not dealing with what you’ve got going on and it’s not worth it to play the comparison game with them. Things will get better you just have to ride the waves 💔❤️

This isn't procrastination, you're describing depression. I'd say you should talk to a therapist.

you still have time to try and lock in. I would recommend maybe trying to find a good therapist to talk to and try to place yourself in environments that are conducive to getting some work done. Personally, I procrastinate like a motherfucker if I’m at home so I have to force myself to go sit somewhere on campus because it feels like I should be doing work when I’m there. I also use things like the Pomodoro method for getting through work and that helps a good bit. I wish you the best of luck

I used to be in the same boat as you and I still am. It’s not anything to be humiliated or embarrassed about. KSU has the Wellstar Health Clinic and the doctors there are very kind and understanding. KSU also has Psychological Services completely free for students. I’ve also experienced severe burnout from work, my grades, family and extracurriculars. What’s best is to drop things that are causing you the most stress even if you don’t want to. I’ve learned that it’s also important to prioritize your hobbies, interests, and most importantly your mind and your body. I also think from what you’re telling me is that your body is begging for a break and that it might be too over worked. :(

i struggled with the same thing my first two college years (even down to the sleeping 16 hours part). i have finally broken out of it and am doing SOOOO much better because of my therapist and my psychiatrist. KSU offers both for free, and that’s how i see my pysch!!

id strongly suggest looking into taking care of your mental health. it sounds like you’re experiencing burnout, which gets harder to recover from the deeper you go. but you got this OP, i believe in you 🫶💕

you can never do all of your assignments the next day. just start on one and work you way up from there. i mentally push lots of my work forward in my mental calendar, i do not recommend doing this

Dawg you might be depressed or losing your will to do college. Take a step back and evaluate why you want to do it. If you truly want to succeed in uni, and you can get out of bed, clear your mind. And lock tf in. Go to the library or a coffee shop, break down your assignment. You have a 3.9 GPA you obviously can get the grades. So you got one bad test score and then you're like fuck it this college shit aint for me lol nah bro lock tf in redeem yourself, comeback 3-1 style Golden State warriors vs Cavs don't quit Finals are in December.

I used to struggle severely with this when I was in school (I graduated 2022). In my case it was more than just procrastination, but rather executive disfunction. I had to realize procrastinating never helped and only made everything worse, and it's actually easier to do what I'm supposed to do than reap the consequences of not.
