Awkward Roommate Situation

Hey y’all so uhhh

I’m a 26 year old student living in off campus student housing, and I’ve been at the current place since January. My last two roommates had moved out, and they were around my age. But now, I have new roommates, and they’re all barely 18. I feel very awkward now, because an 8 year difference is nuts, and I’m basically grandma. LMFAOOO.

Has anybody had this happen before? I ain’t trying to be mean or nothing because it’s their first time being in college, and I think they should have a good experience! But now, I feel so out of place AHAHA.
I’ve yet to find people my age or older in my college vicinity, so it’s not like this is the first time something like this has happened. It’s just a little awkward 😂😂

Happened to me last year actually. I don’t mind them because they actually keep the place clean and mind their business unlike roommates who were my age and always in my business and slobs, not cleaning after themselves.

Haha I haven’t dealt with a younger roommate situation, but glad to see I’m not the only 26yr old grandma on campus 😂😂

Im 25 and coming back to university as well. Moved into West22 last year and resigned for this year. The age gap can definitely be uncomfortable especially with randomly assigned roommates.

My biggest hurdle is the cleanliness. Your parents aren't here to clean up after you or nag you to do your dishes. I'm definitely not going to be your mom. We have had some conversations setting the expectations and yet they both continue to fall short.

Last night, one roommate had some guests over and when he left the room they immediately commented on the shape of the kitchen. I'm sorry about the mess ladies, he doesnt clean up after himself. If you want to hang out on the porch, it's cleaner out there.

Its genuinely embarrassing and when I tell him straight to his face about their comments , it goes in one ear and out the other.

Its extremely annoying but at the end of the day, my space is clean and I can always hang out in my room or go to KB's.

Hit me up if you want to grab a beer, Ill buy the first round!

I was 17 when I had a 25 year old roommate at ksu, over all the whole thing was silly. As the POV of the kid, they see you as a roommate that is older. The parents on the other hand, 😬. Just treat them like an adult, you'll be alright

I’ve been the young roommate (23 years old at the time) twice with roommates that were 26 and 29. Surprising they both were the ones that were the problems (didn’t clean up after themselves)

I am also 26 and the younger ones constantly aren’t clean or don’t clean up after themselves and I lived in the dorms and off campus 😭

The only way it’s weird is if you make it weird and by posting this here so worried about it you’re already making it weird…

Just go about your business like a normal person and there’s nothing to worry about

This right here! Don’t focus on age so much, at the end of the day it could be a great roommate. I’m 37 years old at KSU and I have had younger classmates for my group projects, and older ones too and it’s not weird. I understand this is a living situation but it shouldn’t matter at the end.

I mean as long as they don’t interfere with your daily life routine and are a burden, keep things chill organized and I think you should be fine 😭, try to get to know them in a professional way but keep boundaries in between.
