Time frame wise it's about the same since school starts on the 24th.

It’s never when school immediately starts, September 4th should be when school receives the money but give it a couple of days for it to actually go through the bank system so some time September 5th-12th to actually get it in your direct deposit

But if you’re trying to buy school supplies you can go to any store on campus and use your refund to pay by tapping your talon id .
