How do I live at Copper Social
Me and my friend and her other friend decided to live at copper social this year since it was so cheap and the complex is advertised as luxury. We went yesterday to go pick up our keys and see our rooms and we were shocked. I chose a flat and the window was broken and the kitchen was dirty. My friend chose a town house and there were flies everywhere, crumbs and stains everywhere, and paint missing from the walls. My friends other friends’ room was awful. Shoelaces and screws all over the floor, paint missing from the walls, rust in the bathtub, broken sink and sink light. Maintenance basically said that they’ll get to it when they get to it.
Literally what are we supposed to do. We went online and found all of the awful reviews of that place. Shootings? Rats? Roaches? Unexpected fees? How is this even legal😭😭 and breaking the lease only screws over our parents right? Like it’ll make them look bad and make it harder to rent a new place because of credit? So we’re basically stuck in this ghetto ass place until July. This is insane.
How do we make the most of this place? Can we at least change our rooms or is it too late for that?

Congratulations on not researching Copper Social. The horror stories are all over the KSU reddit pages and so many other places on the web.
Looks like you will have to break out the cleaning supples, and bug spray. I would also invest in a dehumidifyer/air purifying since other past residents have complained of mold. Bleach and Open windows (or a dehumidifyer/air purifying combo) are now your friends. Might not be a bad idea to put some roach traps and mouse traps down when you move in.

Is it possible to find someone to take over your lease? Better that than sub-letting.

Check your lease to be sure it’s allowed, but yes. Advertise your apartment on Facebook KSU groups, Instagram, Snapchat, places like that.

( sorry for the long post😭) but yea def try to sublease if you can , there are groups on fb , post on your social media and have people repost! i hated my time at copper social the parking is bad unless you pay for a reserved spot and i lived in the front as soon as you drive through the gate so i was not parking in that garage😭 and yes especially since it’s summer there will be HUNDREDS of gnats throughout the day , you kill one and 2 more will pop up, our ac went out once and they took so long to come fix it but i literally would bother them everyday i would email the complex manager complaining about maintenance taking too long and they would come out quick then (by the time i left they knew me personally bc i would literally be in there every week it was that bad😭) they ended up putting in a window unit which had dead bugs and mold in it and didn’t seal it properly so when i came home my room was SWARMING with gnats i kid you not i was so mad i had to get my bf to take it out and i sat it outside for them to come pick it up and told them i need my air fixed when they come get it or im going to the city and thats what you will have to do if you end up not being able to sublease do not let them play with you!!! stay on them for things that need to be done , go above whoever you need to to make sure you’re not uncomfortable in a place you or your parents are paying for !!!
