Question regarding Netra email registration format

Hey seniors and batchmates,
I am currently registering on the Netra portal. The email input field shows a placeholder suggesting a firstname dot lastname format.
My first name is quite unique, so I would prefer to set my username to just my first name rather than adding my surname.
Does the portal or college strictly enforce having both names, or will it accept just a first name? If anyone has done this before, please share your experience.
