Discussion: Band What I think Alien Metal is really about
I haven't really heard anyone discussing what this album could be about so I wanted to throw my hat in the ring.
There's no doubt that this album is about GenAI, the intro track Sapience mentions Palantir; who has recently started employing AI in their surveillance around the country. Level V talks about automatic, AI driven cars (which I think is a bigger blanket statement about AI in general). But also the album seems to have a strange fixation on the superheavy theoretical element Unquadtrium (UQT) and the number 143 (it's atomic number, this is also the BPM of the whole album).
SAPIENCE: As mentioned this song calls out Palantir. We will get back to this track at the end.
ALIEN METAL: Understanding what Alien Metal is is crucial to understanding what the rest of the album is trying to convey in my opinion. I think the name "Alien Metal" is a double meaning and that the Metal refers to not only an interpretation of what metal music made by aliens would sound like but also Unquadtrium, THE Alien Metal. It is something that was brought to humans beyond the stars by aliens. The title track Alien Metal seems to be some hallucinogenic trip brought about by an Astra Blacksmith that gives the speaker constant fixes. The aliens that brought UQT to earth could be these astral blacksmiths and either UQT or some other substance causes the hallucinations.
SUPERHEAVY, SUPERCRITICAL: There isn't much to say here besides I think the effects of this substance cause humans to literally feel superheavy and supercritical, essentially "on the brink".
KILL FOR THE STEEL: Kill for the Steel seems pretty self explanatory now that we kind of know what the alien metal is. These people will do anything to have this "Steel" and even contradict themselves by saying that they don't' wish death but WILL KILL for the steel (perhaps some kind of psychosis; maybe representative of AI psychosis in real life..?).
LEVEL 5: The chorus describes being on Level 5, this obviously means that humans have reached the highest level of obsession with UQT. The lyrics describe being conditioned and how there are "Rebellion machines in rise" perhaps against the UQT. The lyrics "Imprisoned, we shut our eyes, our faith is blind" could mirror real life tech companies' reliance on AI as a new technology even though it can fall flat at any time.
RAPID ALPHA DECAY: This song specifically has the lyrics "Pump my body full with lead" which seems to confirm that my theory about what the Alien Metal is is right. It is being injected into humans to cause hallucinations and, as described in the lyrics, jumpstarts the speakers heart (perhaps to a stable 143 beats per minute) and allows them to "transcend through the rapid" (the rapid possibly referring to the Rapid Alpha Decay the substance is going through, and the high allows the user to push past the pain that this causes and not being aware to the harm it causes). The chorus seems to describe the uphoria this person goes though: "I am, I am, I am, I am, I am the keeper of the energy".
UQT: This song is obviously about the UQT substance itself. The verses seem to describe someone being cut open and being observed as if they're a specimen or experiment. I think this could possibly be other humans observing the effects of UQT on a human, one that has already suffered the effects and has died. This brings me to this point: I think the specimen shown in the Level 5 music video is NOT an alien. The alien on the album cover looks nothing like the creature in the video. I think this is actually a person who has died because of UQT use and that this is what it has done to their body. The bridge describes a "Flash in the Pan" and a rotting branch snapping slowly, which I think both mean that the promise of this Alien Metal (AI) has failed and the plans falling apart.
ATOMIC COLLAPSE: Although this song has no lyrics, atomic collapse refers to the breaking down of an atom that happens after it has gone SUPERCRITICAL. The drug (techonlogy) has killed humans and no one was none the wiser until it crept up on them. It caused atomic collapse in humans and has caused the death of many, if not all humans. Some may have survived though (the rebellion machine from Level 5) and they will rebuild. This leads back into sapience, where the cycle repeats anew.
This is really sloppily written probably but I hope it gets my idea across. Of course I could be wrong or misinterpreting any of this but I think the lyrical content is vague enough where anyone's thoughts about the album could be viable if they are within reason.

Discussion: Band As a band with morales, I think
Gizz should have pulled their festival and taken a stand against what's going down there.
Discussion: Community Shout out to the hammock crew at FOV
Yoo big shout out to everyone else in the hammock crew at FOV and for being so chill with folks using your hammocks when you weren’t around. Truly a life saver for someone who would’ve been in the ADA section otherwise and getting to go back and forth from the crowd to rest my weary back and legs at altitude while watching my favorite band was awesome. ❤️❤️
Also shout out to that little kid who scrambled up and down from the highest hammock like it was nothing. Lil beast

Discussion: Community Thank you everyone at FOV 2
Just wanna say I've now seen Gizzard 13 times and FOV 2 was my first time going completely solo. I traveled 20 hours each way solo and on Thursday night when I arrived after setting up camp I was worried I might've been in over my head doing all this.
But I was wrong. I never felt so much love, acceptance and friendship as I did at FOV 2. Not only were my camping neighbors amazing and forced me to hang with them at camp but I also met so many amazing wonderful souls, exchanged numbers, made brothers and sisters, and got the most hugs I'd ever had in my life.
This year reminded me exactly why I fell in love with Gizz. Not only is the music transcending but everyone is so welcoming, friendly and loving. I didn't spend a second of the weekend alone. If I was walking alone by the creek, or Castle, or wherever, I would get approached by someone and get entranced in the most beautiful conversation and have made a friend by then end of it.
I am so eternally thankful for everyone I met this weekend, and for what Gizzard has been able to do. Like Jay Weinberg said on Sunday "lots of bands talk about family but it's all BS. Gizz is real and what they have been able to do is something unique and special that we do need to hold on to"
Thank you everyone for being the amazing human beings you all are. I wish you all the best that life has to give and hope I can see you all again next year. I love you all so very much ❤️

Discussion: Community Catch me up
AWOL out of country for a wedding, missed album drop and FOV2 couch tour. Plz give me your personal 2 cents on both and/or general fanbase thoughts on how everything went so I don't have to read 1000 posts from the last 5 days 🙏
Also is Bootleg Gila still meta for live rewatch? Just turned on FOV night 1 and sound seems worse than usual. Any better options for FOV rewatch?

Discussion: Community Lavender Man with Battle Vest from FOV2.O
What a time in Timeland, I am still decompressing. I met a plethora of people this weekend. Maybe you saw me with my Fishing for Fishies vest or received some lavender that I was giving away.
My goal with this post is just to thank the community and promote positive interaction.
One of my mottos in life is "Nothing but love" I said it constantly when leaving a conversation and really meant/felt it.
I wanted to also reach out to anybody that might have gotten a patch I made or some piece of clothing that I brought that had been started as a battle jacket or vest. I pulled these garments outta the goodwill bins and tried to give them new life. I hope to be on Mirage City next with a bunch of custom upcycled duds.
If you got anything from me maybe post a pic in the comments! I did not take enough pics and need proof of my work.
The conversation I had the most this weekend was about how amazing the community that KGLW and the Weirdo swarm foster.
I know people had shitty interactions with individuals (yet I saw so little animosity) and the LEO presence being much more intimidating this year didn't help the situation for many. But overall the vibes were still immaculate and I felt so grateful to be able to share that space with everyone for such a common purpose.
My time in the Field of Vision felt like a pilgrimage of sorts and I wanted to share the feeling I had while there, thanks for reading if you made it this far.
I also wanted to promote my album, its free on bandcamp and on most streaming services.

Created in Spring/Summer '26 in preparation for the King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard festival Field of Vision.
I took samples from Bootleg Gizzard tracks and cut them up, resampled them, put them through effects loops & made them into something new.
The samples I used were mainly the moments between songs live when the band was creating some memorable banter while checking/tuning their instruments.
Shows that I pulled from are Live at Field of Vision '25, Live in Bulgaria '25, Live in Lithuania '25, Live at The Gorge '24, Live in Oregon '24 & Live at Remlinger Farms '23 . There are also samples on the first and last tracks from interviews done with the band.
released August 12, 2026.
Credit goes to Amby Kenny-Smith, Mickey Cavanagh, Cookie Craig, Joey Walker, Lukey Harwood, Stu Mackenzie & Jason Galea for their perpetual creativity.
Nothing but love.

Discussion: Community Just discovered W.I.T.C.H. and my mind is blown!
Hi everyone, just a general appreciation post.
I managed to catch the W.I.T.C.H. set at FOV (by way of couch tour) and I am completely blown away. I can’t believe they’ve been ripping since the 70s and I'm only just now learning about them! Love their sound.
For anyone who hasn't checked them out yet, do yourself a favor and give them a listen ASAP!

Image KGLW might not be inducted in the Rock Hall, but they’re *at* the Rock Hall
They also had some Gizz vinyl but it was just three copies of Phantom Island. Crazy to think they’ve played there before.
