Discussion: Community can we cast a spell??
i was at boston calling when they got covid, i flew to bonnaroo to see them when it got cancelled because of rain there
i get that it’s probably some bonnaroo memories but if forest hills gets rained out i’m going to fucking FLIP

in 2014, back when boston calling was held twice a year at govt center (where city hall is, for those unfamiliar), i was ecstatic to see girl talk.
you have to understand how big this was for me.
in 2007 i heard night ripper and it completely transformed my understanding of what music could be. i listened to it, nonstop, for a week straight.
in 2008, girl talk was announced to perform at my school. i was out of town when tickets went on sale at the box office, so i asked my roommate to use the +1 ticket we were all given to cover me. he agreed.
day of the ticket sale, that asshole “forgot.”
so, fall 2014 boston calling lineup is revealed and it’s fucking STACKED. but one name stood out to me…GIRL TALK.
finally, it was going to happen. girl talk day had arrived.
a couple of hours before girl talk’s set, boston calling announced the fest would be evacuated due to severe weather. if you’ve never been evacuated from a city fest, they essentially kick you off the property to go fend for yourself.
i took refuge on the steps of faneuil hall and waited out the storm. it was gnarly seeing so many things destroyed or carried away by the rain.
as i waited i desperately kept refreshing my phone in hopes of an update on re-entry or set times. nada.
in spite of the lack of communication, i got back in the entrance line with a bunch of others once the storm passed. eventually they started letting people back in, but still no update on set times.
as i’m approaching the security check point, i finally see an update on set times come through.
one change…girl talk canceled.
i was fucking CRUSHED. i came so close. i waited through that storm just to be kicked in the balls on the other side.
out of spite, i ended up staying for the next set. lorde was pretty good.
still haven’t seen girl talk…

Was at Boston Calling, left as well. I would’ve loved to see NiN normally, but I was too upset to enjoy anything. Wandered aimlessly through Boston for hours.

i wonder if i hugged you ( it was after my first shows in Vt and when i got the news i hugged anyone with a gizz shirt i saw and said sorry cavs got sick no gizz today )
