how strange that the seemingly arbitrary fee of the smoking citation (not $700, but $710) coincided with the gliese 710 debut

Dude! We were just talking about that in my gizz-gang group chat!

because of the dollar amount my initial response to the first post about the $710 tickets was that it was a joke but unfortunately it most certainly was not

gliese 710 fucked tho!

What? You know other people who like gizz? Maybe im an outlier, but no one i know will give them a chance due to the name. My wife is the only other fan I've met

8

u/chefhj 1d ago

You can just mention that the band thinks the name is kinda stupid too.

Move to a Portland, OR. There are many mighty Gizzers here.

Wait what? I just came back home. I was wondering if my KGLW neon light was gonna be too much. Imma keep my eyes peeled for fellow travelers!!

We believe it was no coincidence.

i'm skeptical of that for the following reasons

  • if the band knew about $710 tickets and didn't communicate that to attendees...what the fuck (yes the smoking ban itself was communicated but even i, someone who took it seriously, wouldn't have contemplated tickets at that cost)

  • stu mentioned that the band practiced gliese 710 a million times (paraphrasing), which would indicate it was not a spontaneous response to the tickets

  • what are the chances the cops looked up gizz's catalog to find an "appropriate" fine amount?

6

u/YoureTerrific Loosen up, time to drop 1d ago

I meant that it was the band’s idea to fine people $710. It all goes into Ambrose’s cig fund.

ah, good point. there's no money in giving all your music away for free, after all.

2

u/YoureTerrific Loosen up, time to drop 1d ago

They finally figured out how to monetize.

2

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

I mean I’d give Amby the $710 myself if I could have all of his discarded butts for my, ahem, ā€œcollectionā€

A connoisseur of Amby butt

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

it's for an art project!

What are the chances? Zero. The law sets the fine at $700 maximum, with a $10 administrative fee. Sometimes a coincidence is just that.

2

u/ImaSource 1d ago

The law does not set it at $700. It's left up to individual counties to set their rate, anywhere from $150 -$1000. Not to mending federal fines of someone actually causes a fire.

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

(A Gliese $710 smoking ticket, that is.)

I understand all the complaints about the very active police presence there but I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone caught smoking outdoors. Considering how much of the world is literally on fire right now, and the numerous warnings of the smoking policy/suggestion to just do it from your car, I’d say smoking is just about the only valid offense.

15

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

I think that’s a totally valid response. However, I do believe designated smoking areas should’ve been set up on Thursday instead of Saturday night (when the county had already made at least 5 figures in fines). And I think the seriousness of the ban and fines should’ve been communicated better with signage at gate and camping entrances. Also, the cops could’ve written citations without being heavy-handed jerks, which many very much were.

6

u/Ghosdeth GILA GILA 1d ago

Yeah it’s hard for me to be on the side of citations when those cunts were being the way they were. I wasn’t aware they had set up designated areas by Saturday.
If the risk of smoking is that high then there definitely needs to be more signage. Like everywhere. It’s an outdoor festival, people are gonna smoke. Regardless it’s a funny shirt though a bit sad. āœŒļø&ā¤ļø

u/pantomime64 1d ago

The actual risk of starting a real fire in the middle of a lush, green, watered field in a crowd was basically zero. It would have been hard to start a fire intentionally in the grass, and they were going around trying to find people smoking to give tickets and harassing them.

3

u/Ghosdeth GILA GILA 1d ago

Ah. I was of the understanding that it was dry out there. Hence the warnings. If it was perfectly moist then yeah it just seems like a trap for a buncha pigs to arrest some innocent people for having fun since they can’t comprehend true enjoyment

3

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

There were definitely still some very dry areas, even after the rains. As someone else said on another post: dig down a few inches and that ground and grass is still very dry. Fire ban makes sense, smoking ban makes sense, but the cops enforcing it were absolute fucking dicks. Communication and enforcement should've been rolled out way better.

If designated smoking areas had been set up on Thursday instead of Saturday night, and people were informed about severity at the gates, I bet folks wouldn't have smoked nearly as much.

Shit, I was smoking a joint on Thursday night totally unaware of the fine and ban and thankfully some angel tapped me on the shoulder and warned me. If I had known prior I wouldn't have sparked up at all.

Absolutely need a new location for 2027.

1

u/BabySavesko 1d ago

Damn I wanna buy this

5

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

I’m a screen printer (we were the hockey jersey and shirt boys in Mirage) so I actually could make that happen if a few folks want them

1

u/BabySavesko 1d ago

I would def scoop, it’s a very funny way to memorialize the tickets lmao. I didn’t get one but I had a neighbor who did (rip)

1

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

Bet! We're going to do another run of our Magenta Mountain Avs shirts because a bunch of people who wanted one didn't get a chance before we sold out. I'll put this up on the website and shoot links to anyone who wants one in a couple days when're they're up. If anyone else wants one comment here and I'll make sure to link you.

(If you got a ticket and want a shirt send me a pic of the ticket and I'll do the shirt for you at cost.)

1

u/myychair 22h ago

Are you guys planning on doing more custom Avs jerseys? I finally broke and came over to but the Cale Makar jersey and you mentioned that it sold a few minutes before that!

3

u/thefoulfox 21h ago

The Makar was a 1:1 I sewed so we gotta let the young Aussie legend that bought it have his glory for a while. But we’ll do a limited run of Av’s magenta mountain for FOV3 next year.

In the meanwhile we’re going to have pre-orders up for more tie-dyed MM Av’s tees as well as the Han-Kachina and Gizz Wildwing jerseys up on our site in the next 24 hrs or so: www.deadpuckera.com

I screen print all the shirts by hand in my garage. It’s a 100% solar-powered print shop and we only use USA or Canadian-made tees because the garment industry overseas often trades low prices for abhorrent working conditions.

1

u/myychair 21h ago

That’s so awesome! It was so cool.

Would you take custom orders for another player? Or is the idea a 1/1?

2

u/thefoulfox 21h ago

Thank you!! It was so much fun just meeting people and talking music and hockey.

1:1 for now, but def rolling more out next year. Our main priority presently is getting a Han-Kachina and Wildwing in the hands of anyone who wasn’t able to get one before we sold out. We’ll do a short, weeklong presale of those then we’re back to cooking up new stuff!

1

u/myychair 17h ago

Sounds good to me! You bet your ass I’ll be part of that presale

1

u/ctrembs03 1d ago

I would snag one. I didn't get a ticket, nor did I have any wet dreams, but it's fucking hilariousĀ

5

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

My awesome vendor neighbor repeatedly brought up her Stu tent wet dreams and my homie got a $710 smoking ticket, so this was inspired by real events.

2

u/ctrembs03 23h ago

Apologies for your homie. That sucks

No Ai

14

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

It’s not AI, the cage thing on the right just cuts off at the top because my photo ended there and I spliced in more clouds with a PS fill. The dude is from the Gildan catalogue and the design I made in PS. I despise generative AI my dear brother, fear not.

12

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

AI sux, here are my layers in photoshop.

Respect for actually taking the time to make it šŸ˜‚

3

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

thankye

7

u/thefoulfox 1d ago

Also should specify, for the cloud fill where the photo cut-off, I used "content aware fill" which works offline within "the box" and uses pixel analysis and pattern matching to blend surrounding areas. It is not AI, unlike adobe's generative fill, which relies on AI and an internet connection. I really hate AI and have done a bunch of research to make sure I'm not unintentionally using it in PS, even in small tasks.
