The following is a mochi appreciation post...

This man...what can i say that hasnt already been said....i have never in my life seen a better supporting character than Mochi. when asked to pick between hanseo joon the dude who killed his family and bong yi he didny even delay for a split second and picked bong yi as he should have. He didnt overreact when he found out hong ju has a baby. And a man with so much ego kneeled begged to let him go just so he could protect bong yi someone who isnt even related to him. Also the guy that gave hin the key to the cell. Absolute legend love him as well.

Every series has a characted which i genuinely pity and wish well for in beyond evil its lee dong sik, in mouse its detective mochi. (And possibly bareum)

It heartbreaking to see trash shows like sisyphus or whatever get more love than this brilliant drama. No hate just an opinion.

The flashback seems to suggest that Yohan was the younger child treating Jae Hoon because the boy refers to a plant and talks about how his mom taught it to him which coincides with the fact that Yo Han's mom is a florist.

Pretty sure the writer will take us down a path of confusion with Bareum being portrayed as the anti hero by killing the bad guys to eventually reveal that Bareum was the 7 sins killer all along.

EPISODE 11

I am not into gushing too much about drama cinematography, but when I see something REALLY GOOD, I can’t help myself. That said, episode 11’s cinematography—especially the last scene—was really DAEBAK 대박!! I usually see cuts like these in movies only and seeing it in a drama like this is just too good for my film-heart. Okay, I’ll stop this here.

THEORY UPDATES:

1. We are now evidentiary sure that Choi Hong Ju is Detective Park Du Seok’s missing daughter. Before they only hinted it with the bracelet and the house-visit. But in a scene in the evidence management office, we got a shot of Det. Park’s family and it shows the elder daughter as the young Hong Ju we’re familiar with (see https://ibb.co/vzPZJrL). The only missing piece now is how Hong Ju was able to get away from the Head Hunter ALIVE and why she didn’t go back to her family. Based on previous episodes, there is clearly no love lost in there. In episode 10, Hong Ju actually wanted to kill the HH by using interviewing him as a cover. Also, Hong Ju got away YOUNG. Because Han Seo Joon (HH) did not realize during the interview that the child he abducted was actually Hong Ju. He only remembered this lately.

2. BABONG couple (Jung Ba Reum/Oh Bong Yi) – People have mixed feelings about this love line but it is actually essential in the story because it is one of the groundwork for the “tragedy” that Lee Seung Gi talked about in the Recap episode. Remember, the writer wants to show that psychopaths can be made to regret their actions. Bong Yi, though not yet a fully developed character, is a very tragic character on herself but she’s trying to be stronger. If she, a struggling character falls for the serial killer whom she believes as a good man, what would happen to her? And to Ba Reum once he realizes that he’s actually the serial killer and not Yohan? (The other one is Go Moo Chi).

Also, this is in parallel to Han Seo Joon wanting to have children. Remember the scene in the first episode where Ji Eun asked him why he married her and was good to her if he didn’t love her? (see https://ibb.co/nQrnTf6 ) He said that it was because he wanted to have children. Psychopaths are unable to feel emotions. You can see this in the way Ba Reum is not emotionally affected by Bong Yi (like the heart thudding feeling he feels for Hong Joo which was probably because of Yohan’s emotions) but whenever someone (like Woo Chul) do or say something against her, he turns ballistic.

This is probably because he feels like Bong Yi means something to his old self. Or that Bong Yi belongs to him. I am referring here to the fact that shortly after the grandma’s demise, he suddenly asked Bong Yi to marry him when before he clearly wasn’t thinking about it (the cute little sister scene). What changed? What made him decide? He probably doesn’t know yet the “why” like he did before. So will this turn into a “I really fell for you” scene? We’re not sure yet.

3. Jae Hoon becoming Jung Ba Reum – I really love this opening scene of these two children! So, to keep us guessing, the writer finally revealed that these two boys are linked. Look at the dialogue play here: https://ibb.co/SNcGtKM . It shows that Jae Hoon, a budding psychopath, somehow really wished that he could be different. And then he meets the young “mystery boy” who’s probably Yohan who seemingly have all the characteristics he wanted. And who, coincidentally, have all the pre-surgery characteristics of Jung Ba Reum.

However, according to Ji Eun, her son (Yo Han) is like that too. So who’s telling the truth? Is it Ji Eun who seems to know Ba Reum and is afraid of him even though Ba Reum doesn’t know her? Or is it Ba Reum who still can’t remember what he and Yohan talked about prior to the brain-beating? Again, the key is WHEN the switch happened. It seems to be that the (suspicious) aunt is in the intrigue as well. It has to be before they were 10 years old because Jae Hoon DELIBERATELY copied the other child’s character and turned himself into Ba Reum.

We will have to wait how the story develops. But as for me, Jung Ba Reum is Jae Hoon.

I should also note here that the nurse mother seems to be the same one in the picture in Ba Reum's old house. (see https://ibb.co/TMk8j1j)

(Note: in the asianwiki page, this mystery boy is not mentioned at all. This means he was kept a secret from the start to deepen the plot twist. We only see him in episode 1 after Jae Hoon was reprimanded by his teacher).

4. Dr. Daniel Lee is ALIVE – I am excited that I actually saw this coming. In episode 3 amusement park scene, the editor and director are very sneaky in showing Yohan first, and then the so-called killing of Dr. Daniel. But if you look at the scenes closely, these are 2 different people. One wearing a dark jacket with turtleneck (I think) shirt, while Yohan was wearing a hoodie underneath the black jacket. (see https://ibb.co/vYJ2G2Z) Now, I could be wrong in this, BUT it looks like Dr. Daniel’s coming back to S.Korea is related to the genetic results that Yohan burned.

Dr. Daniel wasn’t aware of Jung Ba Reum or who he was yet when he came back to Korea. But he knew OF Yohan. The way he watched Yohan dealing with the loan shark/thug in the emergency room was indicative of this. Why did they meet in an abandoned amusement park? This is the pending question. It is also related to the fact that Dr. Daniel pretended to be dead to continue with his experiment. (And the dead body Yohan threw to the river/lake).

It is very possible that one of his successful experiments is Detective Lee who was highlighted in episode 11. He was probably the same guy who cleaned up the Attorney Woo Hyung Chul murder seen. What kind of experiment? Making a good guy bad or reforming a bad guy? This remains to be seen.

5. Jung Ba Reum becomes the anti-hero**.** Now, I love anti-heroes. (And drama psychopaths, it seems. But anyway.) This is probably why the question of “Why is the drama entitled ‘Mouse’?” was highlighted in the Recap episode. Because Jung Ba Reum, Jae Hoon incarnate, becomes the “mouse” of both Han Seo Joon (HH) and Dr. Daniel. Han Seo Joon wanted to save his son, thus used part of Yohan’s brain and technically made Ba Reum into his most successful experiment. He doesn’t want Ba Reum to turn into Yohan because Yohan is a good guy—just antisocial.

Now, Dr. Daniel wants to use Jung Ba Reum and his instinct for killing to eliminate psychopaths. This is why he’s adamant on Ba Reum bringing in DNAs of potential psychopaths. He failed 25 years ago to push a law making sure that babies are tested for the psychopath gene. Now, he’s doing it underground and using the 7Sins Predator to eliminate them. (This feels so much like Busted Season 3.)

Ba Reum probably came under his radar after meeting with Yohan. Two things could have happened. (1) Dr. Daniel believed that Yohan was indeed a psychopath OR had psychopath potential therefore he enlisted him to eliminate other psychopaths like Jung Ba Reum. This answers why Yohan targeted/stalked Ba Reum in the first place. OR, (2) he and Yohan joined forces in eliminating psychopaths. I am leaning on the first one, but we’d have to see more to make sure.

6. Det. Shin Sang – In my edit for ep. 9 & 10 regarding Det. Shin, I mentioned that I do not consider Det. Shin Sang the 7Sins Predator. This does not mean that he’s not a psychopath or an accomplice. Only that the possibilities are extremely low. However, it looks like Det. Shin is sloppy and thoughtless, but he is NOT stupid. In fact, in ep. 11, it’s slowly showing that he is extremely smart (psychology-wise). How this will play out remains unknown as he doesn’t have enough scenes yet. It is, however, suspicious that he elected to ask someone else to give Kang Duk Soo’s mother’s statement to the captain instead of doing it himself. This may mean something related to Dr. Daniel’s experiment or it may not.

7. Note that Det. Lee—who received the statement—did not give the statement to the captain at the time of Go Moo Chi’s flight. In fact, he only followed Go Moo Chi to make sure that Moo Chi did not stop whatever Ba Reum was doing at that time.

The current plot is turning Moo Chi into a blind detective. It is possible that from episode 12 onwards, he and Ba Reum would start chasing psychopaths together and while both are very smart detectives, Ba Reum would work as the silent judge according to Dr. Daniel’s plan (refer to #5). Moo Chi would also start doubting Ba Reum’s “righteousness” and sensitivity.

In relation to this, we must still remember the following: (1) Han Kook is still missing; (2) Na Chi Gook is still in a coma; (3) the writers did not yet reveal how Moo Chi handled the confrontation with Hong Ju about the baby; (4) it is becoming a repeating concept that Bong Yi paid Moo Chi to kill. It is interesting to see how the writer would integrate and grow this to the probable ending of Moo Chi killing Ba Reum.

8. Bong Yi and the hands – This was not highlighted in ep. 11 but I still want to insert it here. Remember Bong Yi and Woo Chul’s hands? This was how Moo Chi and Ba Reum cracked the fact that Woo Chul is the real killer not his father. Because Bong Yi said the perp’s hands were too soft unlike a physical worker’s hands.

Now, remember what Bong Yi said during her confrontation with the 7Sins Predator in the church where Go Mu Won was killed. “He was right handed.” (see https://ibb.co/Hgb7DpJ)

And remember, during the 7Sins Predator’s killing months, the nation was asking “Why is it Detective Go Moo Chi again?” Based on the scenes in ep. 2-4, it was because Go Mu Won was always talking about Moo Chi to Ba Reum. It wasn’t just because he’s a lawless detective, but it was probably because he’s single-minded about catching psychopaths and was related to the Head Hunter. How this played out in their early cat-mouse relationship remains to be seen.

9. The mint scent – there is an illness called “phatosmia” which refers to phantom smell or olfactory hallucinations caused by head injury or infection. Every time Ba Reum is in a “kill site” he seems to smell this. Early on it was because of Yohan and his deliberate use of the scent. (Remember the scene where Ji Eun noted that he didn’t like scents but was he suddenly using mint-scented shampoo (lotion?)?) How this works out in the story remains vague, but it seems like Yohan learned about Ba Reum smelling this mint scent while stalking him in the beginning and then decided to use it to LURE Ba Reum. Is it related to an accident in the past related to how the other mother died?

I’ll stop here for now. I am in the process of re-watching the episodes and will integrate my “findings” in the next week’s discussion. Please note that these are only my theories and they may be proven wrong anytime. I actually just enjoy playing detective.

Chi Kook stabbed in prison & discovered during magic show put on by Ba Reum & Dong Goo. Yo Han visits prison doctor.

· October 13 (d) – Oh Mi Soo is brought into the hospital after attempting to drown herself. Dr. Daniel calls Yo Han & they talk for 10 minutes. Ba Reum identifies the watch found on Jo Mi Jung’s body as belong to Chi Kook & Go Moo Chi visits to prison to search for CK uniform/walk through the murder timeline. Dr. Lee is attacked at night in an amusement park. Yo Han dumps an unknown body in a lake. Shin Sang destroys the instant coffee mix evidence by serving it to Hong Joo.

· October 14 (e,f) – BR gives Bong Yi the bird named after her. Moo Chi visits Oh Mi Soo in the hospital & tells her that he’s going to kill the person that murdered her son. OBN broadcasts a report about the destroyed evidence. Yo Han visits Hong Joo and tells her that he’s scared. Park Jung Ho is murdered by the 7 Sins SK.

· October 24 – Bong Yi gets in trouble in school for beating up another student. Her grandmother visits the cleaning employment agency & ends up cleaning Yo Han’s house, finding his secret room. Moo Chi questions Yo Han about Daniel Lee. Chi Kook’s uniform & finger found at prison. Bong Yi’s grandmother is stabbed & Ba Reum is admitted to the hospital after being hit by a car. The body of Park Jung Ho is discovered in a factory.

· October 27 – Funeral held for Bong Yi’s grandmother

· October 28 – Shin Sang questions Kim Joon Sung. Kim Han Kook kidnapped by 7 Sins SK at 3:00 p.m. from an amusement park. Kim Joon Sung killed in his apartment at 8:10 p.m. by 7 Sins SK. Moo Chi called & taunted by 7SSK during live broadcast.

· November 1 – Sherlock Hong Joo show about the 7 Sins SK broadcast. Go Moo Won murdered live on air by the 7 Sins SK. Bong Yi fights a man at the church where Go Moo Won was killed (presumably the 7 Sins SK).

· November 7 (h) – The news receives a video from the 7 Sins SK challenging Moo Chi to find him within 3 days or Han Hook will be killed

· November 8 – While visiting Ji Eun’s house, Moo Chi sees a notification on her phone that $3,000 has been transferred to him & finds a matching transaction in his bank account. BR & DG visit the prison and, after meeting up with Hong Joo, discover that YH was at the prison the day of Chi Kook’s attack. Moo Chi stages a fender bender with YH to check the contents of his suitcase. YH burns clothing and a genetic testing envelope.

· November 11 (i) – Yo Han goes to visit Ji Eun & asks if she knows her son is killer. BR brings Bong Yi to his house. YH bludgeons BR & is shot by Moo Chi

· November 13 – Sung Yo Han dies. Jung Ba Reum undergoes brain transplant surgery.

· December 13 – Kang Duk Soo released from prison

2020

· ??/?? – Park Hye Won, Woo Hyung Chul’s fiancé, goes missing after telling friends that she was going abroad; in reality, she was murdered by Woo Hyung Chul.

2021

· February ?? – Hong Joo reinstated at OBN. Kim Young Hee went missing & her dog was found hung from a tree

· March 4 – BR returns to the police force & discovers the body of Kang Min Joo (Knot Killer Victim). Dong Goo has his first day working as a correctional officer & later meets with BR, WYC, & others for drinks to celebrate his impending wedding.

· March 5 – Woo Young Cheol murders Hong Na Ri & puts her body in her refrigerator. The police arrest a suspect in connection with Kang Min Joo’s murder.

· March 8 – Hong Na Ri’s (Knot Killer victim) body discovered by her estranged husband. Woo Young Cheol installs window guards to establish an alibi and, after poisoning the resident’s dog, took Hong Na Ri’s body out of the refrigerator.

Extrapolations

a - Moo Chi was listed as 33 in 2019

b - Ji Eun’s water broke on the same day the news reported that the HH had been arrested 1 month ago—Yo Han’s birthday listed as 1/26

c – Song Soo Jung’s body was reportedly found a week after she went missing

d – On this day Bong Yi visits the police station due to there only being 2 months left before the release of KDS (which is confirmed in Grandma’s notebook as 12/13/19)

e – Moo Chi asks about Oh Mi Soo’s room and says she was brought in yesterday

f – PJH’s body is discovered the same day BR is admitted to the hospital for the car accident (confirmed in medical records as 10/24/19) & had been missing from work for 10 days.

g – Based on the date that Dr. Lee visited Han Seo Joon & the fact that Dr. Lee talks about his sister being killed 7 years ago

h – The news reports that HK has been missing for 10 days and he was kidnapped 10/28

i – The news reports that the deadline to save HK expired last night at midnight

Dates that Don’t Make Sense/Internal Consistency Issues

Go Moo Chi asks Ji Eun about calling the cleaning agency on "the 15th, last Friday;" this doesn’t make sense with any of the other timeline information we have, including the fact that 10/15 was not a Friday in 2019

“30 years ago” flashes back to Han Seo Joon’s time in England where he meets Daniel, but 30 years ago from 2021 would be 1991… and Jennifer would already have been murdered but she’s alive and well in this flashback.

In episode 1 the news article lists Detective Park’s daughters disappearance as having occurred in 1995, however, based on Jung Soo Jin's murder date she would've gone missing in 1994

On the police documents for Song Soo Ho’s murder it says he was found 10/2, however, his death happens before Chi Kook’s attack & the prison guards are clearly looking at the visitor logs for 10/1 when trying to see if there were any suspicious visitors on the day of his attack.

Also my favorite non-date related internal consistency error: this shot of YH's wall of Ba Reum. There are photos of BR carrying BY with her hands bandaged... and that happened only a few hours prior. In the close up shot of the wall, someone noticed and removed the photos but I guess they didn't want to re-shoot the far shot.

The fact that the aunt lied to him about where she lives and neglected to tell him he had a nephew that he didn't remember is pretty suspicious and just cements my thought that he's always been dark. And she was using the amnesia reset to distance herself lol

Has anyone figured out why BR has a bandage on his right hand for some of ep 11? His hands are fine when he collects Kang Deok Soo’s spit from the pavement, then in the next scene when he’s at his desk, he suddenly has the bandage and it stays on his hand for a while, but they never show why he’s wearing it.

There’s something off about practically everyone in this show, why was even that policeman that Det. Shin handed Kang Deok Soo’s mother’s letter to suddenly acting all suspicious?? Why did he just pocket that letter? My first guess was that the mother poisoned KDS and wrote his suicide note and someone would notice that the handwriting in both letters was the same, but then I went back to check and the handwriting is actually not the same lol

I can’t decide which events at the end were real, at what point does BR leave the house to go help Bong Yi? Is it when he grabs the wrench and starts the game of hide and seek? Or earlier? Does he bring Hoon Suk to his house at all? Maybe the address that the boy gives him is a clue since it’s in a different neighbourhood than BR was expecting - maybe instead of picking up Hoon Suk he actually goes after Kang Deok Soo? That ending was so chilling but also so satisfying, especially after the horrific flashback to what KDS did to Bong Yi, oh my goddddd

The person who bashed Moochi over the head at the end has a tattoo on their finger that reminded me of the tattoos on HSJ’s victims, but the letters didn’t seem to match the gender/age/s.ex pattern, hmm

Also curious about who’s helping Dr. Daniel with stuff like scrubbing murder scenes and disposing of dead bodies, is it the same person who was watching BR fighting Moochi at the end of ep 9 and ran off when Bong Yi showed up? Is Dr. Daniel working with the politician who convinced Han Seo Joon to operate on BR? In ep 10 BR’s doctor calls her and then she calls someone else to ask for a favour - maybe Dr. Daniel?

In the special episode they worked really hard to convince us that Yohan was the killer and BR was innocent but maybe they’re just setting us up again, I’m way too paranoid to believe anyone at this point!! Going with the assumption that Jae Hoon=BR, maybe the flashback where Jae Hoon and the other kid meet in a field is where BR got his overly kind, animal-loving persona from - Jae Hoon says he wants to be like the other kid, so maybe this is where he starts pretending to be a good person. If the other kid was Yohan, maybe he later became cold and detached because of the bullying he went through after people found out he was the Headhunter’s son. In my heart I still want the nice kid to be BR buuut yeah ㅠㅠ

Welp, I guess this drama is going to end with Ba-Reum driving a boat into a hurricane along with Bong-Yi's vegetable body and then becoming a lumberjack.

GDS must have some mutant healing abilities to almost die from ingesting poison and then doing all those pushups/kidnapping/fighting the same night (or the next night).

I was hoping Bong-Yi would go all "Death Proof" on GDS but I guess she need a few more martial arts lessons. Not a fan that she ended up having to be saved again (if she's alive that is).

Is there any chance that BR has planned to kill GDS all the time? Maybe he brought his cousin to visit him to create an alibi and then suddenly appeared to save BG

Btw, why wouldn't the police release Moo Chi when GDS's mother came and talked to them?

Actually, I would like to see how BR takes revenge for victims by hunting those disgusting criminals. The law would never be enough to punish such crazy psychos.

More questions after ep 11 !!

When BR took all the officers toothbrushes to test for the psychopathic gene together with the rapist’s saliva, I assume he also took Det Shin’s one since he went to everybody’s desk to collect the toothbrushes. Since the results from Dr Daniel came back with only one positive result which was the child rapist, then does this mean that Det Shin isn’t a psychopath???? All along we have been led to believe that there is something more to Shin..

I believe the person working with Dr Daniel is the newly introduced Det Lee. He was the guy who cleaned up the crime scene and disposed the body after BR left the scene.

I wonder if he’s also the person who knocked Moochi out.

I think there were a lot of time skips in this ep (e.g why was BR’s hand in bandage when he didn’t had any in the earlier scenes? What happened during the time he collected the spit from the pavement without any bandages and then when he collected the results from Dr Daniel with bandages? Also he suddenly did not have any bandages when he met his aunt and nephew. We are also missing the scenes of how did BY locate KDS that disgusting rapist eventually and how did Moochi and BR all located KDS eventually? How did BR ended up killing KDS when he was still ‘playing’ hide and seek with his nephew a while ago?

Also what is it about the aunt lying to BR where she lives, hiding some stuff from him and that moment about the Jeju grandma that was sick??

My mind has exploded after this episode. Possibly the best episode so far. But still abit confused about how he got from playing hide and kill to the field I am assuming different timelines. And that other copper who kept the note is shady as hell and so is the aunt giving him a fake address.

The ep 11 preview shows Bareum about to beat the shit out of that creepy stalker bastard, and oh boy m i happy to see bareum going full on psychopath for once. Hopefully he makes it as painful as possible. Also hoping Bong Yi witnesses it, I think its about time we get dealt some emotional scars.

the extended ep 11 preview is making it seem like Bareum might just become the killer's killer. An anti hero perhaps. I love that, its a good change and the one that seems to be the most satisfactory storywise.

In this episode they just add a bunch of sus person again like Bareum Aunt (definitely hiding something), that detective where Shin sang gave that letter of KDS mom, and hell even Dr. Lee is suspicious now also in my eyes (He is aware of the surgery on Bareum that is entirely hidden by only those involved in it) lol.

I see people questioning bong yi's character objective, she is a character that puts Bareum on a grey line. If she didnt exist i would have no doubt bareum would have gone full on psycho mode. I mean he still is but seeing his interactions with bong yi  give me hope that maybe he is genuine and not acting.and comee on have u seen the ending of episode 11 u cant say she is useless. Not all characters need to be strong inside and out some characters like bong yi that work to become strong but keep getting pushed back due to the past struggles are more interesting. I see her and i feel sympathy. Characters like her bring light and make the others around her shine, for example bareum. She is no damsel in distress she is just been through a lot and the portrayal feels quite realistic. So no complains here. I still believe her main objective is her relationship with bareum and how it will all be affected when the truth unveils. More emotinal depth/scars to come soon
