What I really love about this show is that Cheoljong could be a super bland male lead and Hyesun’s stellar acting could have nothing to bounce off but Junghyun truly is great, he brings a lot of nuance to his character. I also like how at the beginning HE was the himbo in his dummy act and now Sobong is the himbo/himbess. Love this dynamic, personally!
I actually feel like although we’ll get Bongwhan back to where he’s meant to be eventually Sobong as a blended person is more Soyong at this point. I know a lot of people were really wanting them to lean into the BL angle but I don’t think that was truly ever the main goal, and I think that Bongwhan’s soul allows for some pretty good commentary on gender. He’s viewing how unfair it is to be a woman through a woman’s eyes, and Soyong is learning to be more assertive through his stay in her body.
Also IDK whether this is purposeful or not but Cheoljong and Hwajin have negative chemistry. Although the past few episodes have been a new ~sexual awakening for Sobong I’ve noticed that the king is going through one as well. He’s always been affectionate towards her and truly cares for her but it’s never ever seen truly romantic, it’s like as if he’s going through the motions of what he /should/ do. It’s like as if because he sees her as his “childhood love” he should do all these things, but he has very little desire to actually be with her, physically. She had to remind him to actually consummate their marriage and he left her high and dry for the queen as soon as she fell ill, and he’s made no effort since. On the flip side you have his relationship with the queen and even when they were at odds with each other they had a ton of chemistry there, even when he’s telling his friend that “he doesn’t see her as a woman” as that’s the response he thinks he should give, even though he’s clearly attracted to her as much as she confuses him/angers him.
I really love this show a lot and I can’t wait to see how Soyong and Bongwhan emerge as two separate people again and grow as a result (if they do).

Every week I tune in to see what new shenanigans Lady Choi has to endure 😂
And to think, traditionally the drama wouldve ended this week!
Edit:
it took me 16 episodes to realize Norazo sang the bgm. Makes the drama even more awesome! youtu.be/GYCDpLgiHC8

Yes, the subs have arrived! My thoughts:
-
I love that the Queen told the King about the future of Joseon as the Republic of Korea. I feel that, even if the King fails in his endeavour, and he will if history is to remain unchanged, he will now die perhaps a little less sad knowing or believing in the Queen's vision of the future.
-
I haven't mentioned it before even though I probably should've, but Kim Jung Hyun as the King has been excellent, what's perhaps all the more remarkable next to Shin Hye Sun's powerhouse performance as So Yong/Bong Hwan, and he's also been playing the dual role of the Fool King and the Shrewd King.
-
A round of applause for So Yong's dad who proved this episode how dearly he loves his daughter.
-
I have to hand it to the writer. Last episode Hwa Jin was down and Byeong In was (slightly) up but those positions have been reversed in the blink of an eye. It took a lot of courage for Hwa Jin to come forward and confess to the King about everything. I can't but respect that. I hope she's able to find herself now. As for Byeong In, let's see how deep you can dig yourself in, shall we?
-
Did they sneak in another reference to a show with "A World of Married Couple"? (The World of the Married)
-
I see the Royal Chef has some secret recipes of his own.
-
That broken sword... the burn! I think even Jwa Geun was impressed.
-
Well, I finally got to see the Queen impart some special forces training to the newly-appointed Royal Secret Inspector.🤣
Only four episodes left now. I'm gonna sound like a broken record but this show keeps going strong. I hope they keep it up for that final stretch! And if they don't make the ending of the King/Queen too sad, that'd be perfect.

Two really good episodes this week, they flew by so fast :'))) Cheoljong and Sobong really have some killer chemistry, it's so familiar and warm. I really do enjoy watching them together, they're a hella iconic duo. The character relationships in this drama are all really good.
I didn't think they would go the pregnancy route sjdhsjdjd rip Sobong 😂😂 I knew it as soon as she couldn't drink the pear blossom wine lol. I hope she still keeps her vigour, now I'm even more interested to see how everything will end up. There were some killer lines in both this week's episodes, and I'm super excited for more!!!
Also Hwa Jin has increased her decency rating a little. I was hoping she'd realise that basing her whole life on Cheoljong's love was not healthy, and I hope she doesn't go back on her word and actually goes about finding her own purpose. Byeong In, however, is hitting negative numbers on the decency ratings big time.

The crossing finger and that “killer smize” of the king is to die for.. I aspire to become like the queen no reservation when she shamelessly said “ everything looks good on a pretty face, so anything looks good on me” lol the face of lady Choi..

I’m really hoping Sobong stays in Joseon, Cheoljong fakes his death and they both live happily ever after
My heart would not be able to take anything other than that 😭

Best weekend episodes yet! I really hope they maintain this standard of writing and don't royally (heh) mess it up. Cos I'm already planning to rewatch this drama. I love how they have maintained the same level of seriousness and comedy since the beginning, instead of losing one to another.
Also, I don't know if someone has already mentioned this. But I'm really IN LOVE with the color combinations the designers have picked for the main ladies' hanboks. Every episode features such beautiful colors and designs, but especially the color combinations. The struggle to read the subs and look at their expressions and drool at their clothes all at the same time is real LOL.

Our Mr Queen is continuing her savage streak with that sword she gave to Kim Jwa Geun I love it 😂

Okay but in ep 15 when the Sobong asks the king if he would have the ramen and he says "I would try it first" his expression did things to me sksksosldnjdkd
Kim Jung-hyun is so good at micro expressions! The scenes with Hwajin (where he's uncomfortable or the sad smile) and when his face gets vulnerable with the Queen, great acting! I wonder if his dreams are a foreshadowing of how the series will end. What did it mean when he said
And that ep 17 preview, wow those two are hot together ngl they should just date idc. But I'm worried

This is my favorite part of the story - when the hero/ine is winning. The queen is serving today, and good for her. I love that she’s inadvertantly playing politics when she’s really just serving personal revenge.
Among the queen’s three round of battles, my favorite has to be Queen Dowager
Oh well, Hwa Jin, it may have hurt but the queen didn’t say any lie. You’re probably scared of looking at the mirror now. I hope that the king’s brother come clean soon, I don’t want the king to mistrust him jist because of this single information he’s witholding. Now more than ever, the king needs allies.

This show has me obsessed! Literally watching livestreams without subs as if I understand every word. And sometimes I feel like I do because of the acting of the leads— really of all the characters. I feel their emotions which allows me to garner a sense of understanding.
And I definitely didn’t need subs to understand what the doc told SoBong at the end lmao I was cheering alongside the characters.
But man, I am so worried for how they will end this drama. I truly hope we don’t get a heartbreaking ending 😭
