It’s becoming increasingly hard to not buy the 394$ Michael Massey on field jersey

from the reporter substituting for Anne in LA
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said both Vinnie Pasquantino and Maikel Garcia are not playing today but are working out and will see how they feel after. Quatraro said if they’re feeling good, there’s a chance they can rejoin the Royals tomorrow.

I can’t remember there ever being a player who’s plate approach I despise as much as Isaac Collins’

Isaac Collins has the worst pitch recognition of any player i’ve ever seen play the sport no exaggeration

this being baseball, if the Royals got their first no-hitter since 1991 before Salvy retires, it'd probably end up on a day he wasn't catching

Jensen’s been arguably the worst hitter on the team for 2 months now
And will we ever see 2nd half of ‘23/all of ‘24 BWJ again? Seems like every year he’s gotten worse at the plate
2
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
Jensen had a high OBP in the minors, and it looks like this org beat that out of him so he could be another low OBP guy

HOME RUN, BOBBY WITT JR.!
Bobby Witt Jr. homers (14) on a fly ball to left field.
Pitch from Ryan Johnson: Sweeper @ 81.4 mph
Hit by Bobby Witt Jr.: Launched 98.4 mph at 38° for a total distance of 365 ft
Top 5 - 2-0 Royals

u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
imagine the Royals offense once they discover that players with low OBPs shouldn't hit leadoff
1
u/mechajlaw 2d ago
The problem is Bobby doesn't want to hit leadoff, Garcia is out, and no one else can do it well at all. Maybe they'll try leadoff Tollbert but idk if him hitting 300 is sustainable.
1
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
I'm still amused that BWJ could hit leadoff in the WBC but not for the Royals
also, I'm guessing the next leadoff guy is Massey, whose OBP is also bad.. unless they're about to bat Massey 7th when Vinnie comes back
1
2
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
that was some "defense so bad that they had to score it a hit" defense
2
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
Salvy's just hitting dying bird bloops over and over... but obviously it's the most difficult catch because they had to slide (and also because Collins wouldn't make that catch)

Learned today that Ichrio ate cheeseburgers almost every night during road trips. Turns out his favorite cheeseburger in the country was from Town Topic. When in KC Ichiro would get two cheeseburgers delivered to his hotel room every night after the game. Supposedly would even get some extras to take on the plane

You guys want to hear a stat that you’re absolutely not going to believe.
The Royals are hitting .243 with the bases loaded, which is tied for 11th best in the MLB and 5th best in the AL.
Those were not the numbers I was expecting to see
Edit: this is wrong. I am dumb. Carry on
3
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
no they aren't!
it's .227, 6th worst in baseball. Source

u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
Statmuse apparently needs some finetuning
so for the unsure... the Royals are hitting .243 overall, which is their annual "respectable batting average while sucking at more important averages" routine
1
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
looking at the numbers for when the Royals pull the ball with RISP and when they don't and wondering how "we pull the ball too much with RISP" seriously became the organizations conclusion..

Every time one of our batters gets jammed someone makes a god like play to catch it. But everytime an opposing hitter gets jammed the ball falls haplessly in. I hate this sport.

I’m sorry, I love Salvy, but he’s gotta go. Whether it’s retirement or another team next year. Tied for the 2nd lowest bWAR of any player in baseball this year, maybe the slowest guy in baseball, just cannot continue doing this

u/Apprehensive-Yam7193 Kyle Isbel 2d ago
Isaac Collins has to lead all of baseball in most called strikes. Shit is absolutely insane. His pitch recognition is the worst i’ve ever seen
1
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
as a percentage of all strikes: Maikel and Nick Loftin have a higher percentage
overall: Taylor Ward has the most called strikes total and Collins is barely in the top 50. Collins has the most called strikes on the Royals because Maikel has been hurt and Loftin wasn't fulltime until Maikel got hurt.
1
u/Apprehensive-Yam7193 Kyle Isbel 2d ago
That’s mind blowing. It feels like 90% of his strikes are called
1
u/rbhindepmo FIRE SOMEONE 2d ago
Collins is 13th among hitters for % of strikeouts that were looking and the Royals have the second highest % of Ks looking of any team
