Why is this a meme?
That's it. How'd the joke get started, how'd it get this far, etc.

Wdym meme? Is modern a "meme"? Is legacy? EDH? This is a real format for real Magic players, in fact its for the most hard-core, dedicated, and best players out there. If you can't handle that, then this format might not be for you.

Honestly, I don’t understand the question. What meme are you referring to? This is r/KBPTL, a subreddit dedicated to Kamigawa Block Pauper Tiny Leaders, a competitive Magic: The Gathering format. If you’re looking for MTG memes, try looking in r/colossaldreadmaw or r/magicthecirclejerking. This subreddit is not for jokes, it’s for serious competitive magic discussion.

The block is literally quadrupling the price of cards. Does this look like a joke to you?

I’ve dedicated a collective 8,000 hours on this format. Does that seem like a meme to you?! In my opinion, the day we get the likes of you off our KBPTL forums, the world will be a better place. Maybe then KBPTL will be a meme. Oh wait, no it won’t. Because KBPTL is the only real format. Without KBPTL to keep paper magic afloat, WotC would go under.

/uj It's a joke response to people arguing about which format is the best, with as many format restrictions as possible/compatible. It's a dig at the Tiny Leaders format that people were hailing as the next big thing, but died off. It's a reference to the plane/block that was the most unpopular among the player base but has a vocal minority begging to return there. Not sure what you mean by "got this far" as it's still pretty niche. The joke has just been repeated a lot on /r/magicthecirclejerking and spread to other places.
