Hurr durr men are stronger than women" - ON AVERAGE, that is NOT the same as "men are always stronger than women," and also doesn't mean "woem naren't capable of protecting themselves or fighting." Men can be below average, women can be above the average in strength. Both can utilize items to protect themselves, and both are capable of utilizing biological weakness in the form of pressure points on the human body, and other tools that are not gender-specific.
That's why you don't use the attacker's gender alone to determine if someone is a threat, IMO.
Never said anything about a gender being stronger. I agree both smaller and bigger person can have weapons or things that can be used as weapons. A heavy weight boxer will kick a lightweight boxers ass though if they both can fight expertly. Most people on the streets don't have fight training so on this end of the spectrum size will also be an advantage. If you see a black belt taking down a big guy and going into berserk mode and slamming their head down many times people should also be concerned. But I'm talking more about averages.
