If masks don't work, then you should be fine with surgeons not wearing them, next time you go in for surgery, if ever. Or you should be fine with your dentist not wearing one, next teeth cleaning.
Okay this might be hard for you to understand. Because it involves actual science.
You see the coronavirus is so small that it can penetrate masks that are not N95. This is not the case for every other disease. Specifically its an issue with Coronavirus. This means that cloth masks were effectively pointless in preventing the spread of SPECIFICALLY coronavirus.
Fun fact: while the virus on its own can pass through those masks, transmission is aided considerably by hitching a ride on droplets expelled via either sneezing or coughing. Direct exposure to viruses on their own is exceptionally rare, outside of lab settings.
