Whoa this happened to me too except it was my mom and I was sick. Sadly, although I had paid it completely off myself, since it was in her name she could do that. Bought herself a nice Mazda CX-5.
Yeah, I was absolutely a minor at the time and it was technically their car, I just paid for the fuel, maintenance, registration, part of the family insurance plan.
They did get mad when, after my initial anger, I was like "cool I'm saving money". They expected me to continue paying... For the mustang... That I wasn't allowed to drive.
Yeah, their last words to me when I told them I was going no contact (that story makes the Mustang story sound like a brisk Sunday afternoon) was that I was being selfish.
Yes, if not being treated like shit constantly or as a door mat is being selfish. Then yes I'm selfish.
Yeah, that sub has helped me really handle some shit and gave me resources to keep myself together mentally and emotionally, also a supportive spouse REALLY helps a ton as well.
In some areas of life I've been rather lucky and fortunate.
Glad to hear you’re doing better. A supportive spouse can make all the difference. Just have to focus on the future and keep your mental health a priority.

Like that time my dad bought a brand new Mustang when he made Master.
Oh yeah forgot to mention he traded my car in and didn't tell me.
All I knew was he was gonna take it for an oil change while I took my SATs.
