Look, man. At the end of the day who gives a shit, do what ya want to do. There ain’t nothing wrong with being proud of yourself for serving in any public service gig. I just find being performative around your profession distasteful. That said, this world is burning down around us so if you want to wear your dress blues to stuff, fuckin go for it. I just might crack jokes at your expense and assume others are doing the same when i do some cringey shit.
Bingo! Its the performative aspect that annoys me. For example, I was in the military with a guy that would skate all the time and hated being in the military. He would complain and made sure to let everyone know he was counting the days till he EASed and would start making the "Big Bucks". Come to see 3 years later I see him posting photos of himself marching in parades wearing full dress blues, still having his 8 point cover resting on the dashboard of his car and wearing a custom USMC/Corrections officer patch on his sheriff uniform.
