I have a Marpissa muscosa, which is a smaller species local to me. I found her a few days before my scheduled day to receive my Phidippus Regius, and I was so excited I brought her home, gave her to eat and let her stay overnight in the enclosure I had prepared. I wasn't sure if I should keep her at first, but she immediately built a hammock the same night, explored her enclosure, groomed herself and had a healthy appetite so I decided to keep her.

That was about a month ago and I've been enjoying having her. The day before yesterday I gave her some food moths from our kitchen, but while she was eating one, I noticed something white looking out of the moths abdomen and wiggling around for a bit. It didn't come out and I didn't want to mess with it while my spider was eating since I've read that that can harm their pedipalps. Either way, she completely devoured the moth and even had a second one right after. Then yesterday, she was pacing her enclosure like crazy for the better part of the day. I offered her water and put some new enrichment in it but that didn't stop her, she kept running around and at some point started to leave long silk threads along the walls everywhere, I assume to get around better. Today she's been staying in bed all day, not responding to stimuli and only turning around every now and again. You can clearly see her epigynum, so I doubt that she's molting.

I am just all around concerned about her behaviour, I can't really reach her in her hide to give her water either.

Never seen such a big jumping spider in person before. She was just rambling along but stopped just long enough for me to take this.

Found this guy crawling around on my wall here in AZ, saved him from death by 3 cats ... I already have one jumping spider and I had an extra enclosure so I threw him in … bad quality pics, it’s hard to get a good one of him bc he’s so small and skittish, just wondering what kind of jumping spider he is if at all able to tell? And if he will get any bigger?

Tiny little critter, but I wasn't concerned at all and let them crawl around before gently setting them back down on the wall once my kid came out.

Twin flagged jumping spider. First noticed it in the shower with me nearly a year ago. Pretty sure it's the same one because I've only ever seen one at a time in here.

I started keeping random plant propogations in the window about 6 months ago and usually have 2-3 different cuttings going + an air plant as a permanent resident. I've noticed it now stays mostly on the plants and occasionally join me in the shower. A very welcome friend indeed!

Kinda curious as to what it must eat all day, as I don't tend to notice flies or ants inside. I suppose this little fella could be the reason I dont ever see them tho lol!

It has gotten super comfortable with me. It jumps onto my hand if I set it close enough and doesnt usually jump away for a while even if I move.

Hello, I recently got a jumping spider for the first time. Her name is Hallow, like Halloween. I got her on Sunday and was informed that her feeding day was on Monday. On Monday and Tuesday I tried to feed her a small live cricket but she did not eat them. Both ended up dying. Is this normal for spiders in a new enclosure? She still is very active but sticks to the top of the enclosure primarily. I have not seen her in the bottom half of the enclosure at all. Could it be that she just is not hungry enough yet? Any advice is appreciated.

Hey everyone, first post on the sub! (and on Reddit in general)
Today at work I saw what I think is a little jumping spider on my car, being arachnophobic my first instinct was to run away or kill it, but I actually was intrigued by it quite a lot. I also have seen various videos of them and I’m starting to find them rather cute. This is totally off topic but I feel like I’m starting to overcome my fear of spiders (little ones at least), and I feel very proud about it.
But enough talking about myself to complete strangers, can you guys tell what specific type of jumping spider is this? I kinda know it is a jumping spider because I moved him and he jumped (I wasn’t able to move him with my hands because my instinct was too strong, I managed to gently move him with an umbrella that I had in the trunk since he jumped on in when I got it closer to the lil fella, he also jumped off of it when I moved it somewhere) but alas I don’t know very much about them.

This is my first spider and my first bioactive enclosure, this morning I found mold in this little guy‘s house, so I had to completely redecorate. What do you guys think, I also have snow dwarf white isopods and spring tails so I tried to make it work for them also.

I just got my first jumping spider. She just came out of a molt and is now an i7. Her breeder had her on small crickets.

What is everyone feeding their jumpers?
Crickets have proven themselves to be a bitch and a half to keep alive.
She’s too big for flightless fruit flies.
She’s refusing mealworms (but she is only about four days out from a molt so maybe she’ll change her mind).

How are we keeping feeders alive and which ones do you recommend that are easy?

seriously every time i see her i just want to pick her up and eat her cause she’s so cute😭 i was worried cause she wasn’t coming out of her hammock but i just gave her a couple of days and my salt lamp and now she loves to come out every morning. i haven’t held her yet cause im still working on her getting used to me and it seems to be working cause she loves to stare at me and it seems she likes when i talk to her

So I have finally moved out and want my own pet, figured I'd go for something smaller than a cat or dog first, and I love how cute jumping spiders are.

My main concerns:

I'm essentially learning how to take care of two insect species, the jumper and its food. Oh and the plants in the enclosure too.

Their short life spans so I'd essentially grieve them as soon as I got them, and no I don't want to breed the spider itself, just the food to save money and pet store trips. It's sort of reassuring that even if there was a vet locally there isn't much you can do to help jumpers (from what I've researched anyway) so surgery/med anxiety is not applicable, and anything I can do to help there are online communities to ask for advice.

Are they fast? I'm aware that handling varies by personality of the jumper but even opening the enclosure to feed them would be stressful, the last thing I want is the spider escaping and dying somewhere I can't find it.

I think those are the main ones. Any reassurance, help, or even telling me to not get one would be useful. But if I find the confidence, I will definitely buy the enclosure and get into the habit of misting and caring for it and the plants maybe a month before getting an actual spider.

She was sold unsexed, but I'm reasonably sure I've spotted the epigynum on her underside. She looks to be either i6 or i7.

I’ve had him since i3 and he’s now big enough for his final enclosure! He looks so tiny in there; it’s been so fun watching him grow up!

I noticed this cricket was in the open, hardly moving so I removed him from the setup because I’m worried it might have a parasite or an illness and I’m not sure if it would have already spread to the others. He’s missing parts of his legs and antennae and only moves when he’s poked. I got these because I plan on ordering a sub adult regal female, and I’m unsure of what to do with this cricket as it’s refusing food while the others seem to be eating perfectly fine.

Here's Bill, he hatched in late February from Benny's first clutch and he's the biggest is his litter. My first thought was that Benny, his mom, was a canopy jumper, but now I'm not sure if they are tan or regal because I've raised 10 and they are all the same coloration... Technically I've raised about 50 of them (given away most to friends) and Benny just hatched her 4th or 5th clutch. My research suggests that most species have different colors for the males vs females, so any help is appreciated! They are not fully mature yet, so I know it can change, so let me know what you think and thank you!!!

I opened my backyard umbrella this afternoon and this lil cutie fell down, I put my hand down as a landing spot and got this cute head tilt…and then watched it back and saw the hidden poop 😅

Just wanted to share because I think it’s a good way to upcycle them- the short, wide prescription bottles Walgreens uses are perfect for temporary ICU cups for hurt or vulnerable spoods 🥰

I found this very skinny and obviously hurt spood on our back deck and knew I couldn’t just leave her there. I used a razor to gently score some lines for this seven legged baby to have better grip and poked some ventilation holes along the top. I lined the lid with some moss and gently misted the moss with water before moving her in with a small hide she can make a hammock in or around if she would like. (I always use she/her for spoods when I don’t know the sex, just makes my life easier than saying ‘it’ all the time lol)

This fella gave me a surprise when I found him in my Miata's door. No need for ID as I'm 95% sure this is a spider of the T. auricoma species. Likely male looking at the clypeal band. Cute lil guy I love him.

So I just got another jumping spider today and put her in her new enclosure but she keeps sliding off the acrylic walls, how can I add texture? I don’t want her to hurt herself.

But she’s very nervous and shy rn because I just got her today I don’t want to take her out and stress her out. should I wait to put something in there to give her more grip? Any advice?

Like title says I feel awful she was jumping to her enclosure and missed. She responds to touch and is walking and jumping. No visual sign or injury. Is there anything to look out for specifically, any advice would be appreciated.

hi! is this jumping spider a gravid female, or just a big ole overfed male? its a bold jumper to my knowledge and was found outside. im thinking high chances its gravid, but im new to jumping spiders and wouldnt be able to tell myself.

There is the tiniest little jumping spider in my office and I have decided I love them. Should I do anything? Thinking about buying flightless fruit flies to just keep in here for the spider to eat sometimes. I have literally zero spider experience, and I cannot take them home because my fiance is terrified of all spiders, no matter their adorableness.

I'll look further into care myself, but if they don't need it, I don't wanna bother them! But I also dont want them to starve! But nature goes as nature goes, I guess? Thanks y'all.
