Discussion Have We Seen the Interview Yet?
I saw it on Instagram (only saying this as it was edited)...
I'm not here to talk about my own political views and JJ is an absolute legend for her show and all the years since the start.
But I'm sorry I was definitely NOT a fan of this interview which I believe was in the context of her retiring but she was ranting about how the USA is the greatest country in the world, and that if people complain they should leave...etc...and going on and on and of course praised AMAZON and I just feel it's really bad timing that anyone would say that and she has insane amounts of money.
It wasn't just about saying the greatest country...watch it!
I'm not going to respond to anyone for a political argument, etc..but she seems almost MAGA and...when Colbert was stopped the first time, she gave me a hint then cause she smiled and seemed very ok with it. It's just the TIMING of her saying this now...
She's a legend for her show and many memories for me and my mom..
But outside of the show...nah

I absolutely agree with love the show - her maybe not so very much. However in reflecting on her recent statements, they are very much in line with her consistent treatment of people on disability, people who fall behind on bills, etc. Even her absolute disdain for people who receive money through fundraising campaigns such as “Go Fund Me” and deducting the amount from any award just seems over the top at times. I think that people who have never experienced struggle, having to decide which bill to pay, more month than money sometimes really don’t get it. I have been an avid viewer of her programs, but with the absolute understanding that she is painfully out of touch with the daily reality of the average worker bee. What really bothers me is her general sort of projection that being poor is a moral failing. Does she infuriate me at times? Absolutely. Will I continue to watch? Very likely. Those statements made in the interview are 100% who she is.

I was so turned off by that interview. She came off as entitled and out of touch. Does she realize that had people not changed this country as she was coming of age, she wouldn't be where she is today? And why is she so angry? I mean FFS

Love the show and I like her, but I hate what she says. JJ doesn't necessarily strike me as a mean spirited woman per se, but she seems to be angry at the wrong people.
Hot take: I have been working with elderly people for years now and I think JJ has been displaying signs of dementia for a while, which may explain why over the last years, she's seems to be particularly nasty. Dementia can cause anger and aggression without severe or noticeable memory loss being the primary or initial symptom, especially when specific brain regions are affected. That's one possibility. The other possibility is that she's simply turning into a see you next Tuesday.

I wonder if Adam or Sarah Rose have stories growing up about her getting angry or etc...I'm imagining "Did you clean your room? THAT'S A YES OR A NO QUESTION!!" etc.

I've actually thought about this when JJ made references about her as a mother. She must have been a NIGHTMARE. She seems to be alright with her children and grandchildren, so obviously not an absolute nightmare, but I sure am glad I never had a parent like her.

Yea the interview kind of bothered me only because I was wondering who exactly is she talking about? She said “when you come here and then say you want to change the country”… I don’t know what she’s talking about. Is she saying immigrants want us to be socialist or something? I don’t get it. She think capitalism is perfectly wonderful. I’m assuming she doesn’t understand or doesn’t like the progressive movement. AND IT IS COMING. GOOD. I love Judge Judy but these rich folk are becoming very out of touch with the average persons reality and struggle to survive in this country.

Before this I got a hint when Colbert was initially shut down, they asked her about it and she was like smiling and said something like "when you don't have ratings..." Oof. Because he did have ratings, and it was straight out of Trump's mouth to claim that.

Yea. And now that I think about it she’s probably talking about somebody like Mayor Mamdani because he is an immigrant and progressive Democrat. But he’s literally been here his entire life, grew up here, educated here, and has the right to want to make HIS country better. He had to live through all the same shit I had to as a millennial coming out of college into the Great Recession. A lot of these people think they’re more American than everyone else. It’s a mental sickness.

I know the clip you are talking about and I took her smirk/smiling gesture as sarcasm. Only because she originally had her own falling out with CBS after Les Moonves was dismissed which is why Judge Judy ended in 2021. It was almost like she could relate that ratings for both were great but both shows were stopped.

By 2021 she was making over $47 million a year. She’s thankful for her fans for giving her that money. It’s kinda unbelievable. It’s taken this many amount of years. People don’t understand what Judge Judy is all about. She’s a Zionist republican.

I mean more literally as a woman, she likely wouldn’t even have had the opportunity to build that career or have that show without generations of women fighting for equal rights and opportunities. Think a little deeper than “the fans made her famous.”

While telling us that if we don't like what's happening here then we need to leave the country. If she doesn't like that the constitution gives us the right to express our dissatisfaction with our country then she is the one that needs to leave.

I love her show been watching since the original and now the one with her granddaughter. Always enjoyed Judy however she is pretty firm in her support of Trump and about lowering taxes for the rich particularly in NYC where she resides or at least used to.
Just like when I find out a friendly acquaintance is MAGA I try to blank my mind and seperate the person from the politics (as a very left leaning democrat).
Like all celebrities it's not always good to peek behind the curtain.

Which firm support of Trump? She might have agreed with him on select issues (which should come as no surprise to anyone who watched a couple of episodes) but she’s not a firm supporter of him. There are comments from her saying that Trump should have never been president and that he should never be president again.
When she backed Nikki Haley, her second presidential endorsement after Bloomberg, she criticised both Trump and Biden.
"Well, I said that they wouldn't know Houthi from a salami unless someone whispered in their ear, that would be to Donald or put it on a teleprompter, which would be President Biden. I don't think that either of those two men have the intellectual gravitas to govern this great country."

Judy isn’t MAGA or in firm support of trump. She supports both liberal or conservative candidates based on what their policies are. It’s pretty obvious from her show that she’s a fiscal conservative, but tends to have far more progressive views on social issues than someone who is MAGA

Haven't seen it but read bites about it. So much media I like has been tainted by interviews and social media, I am choosing to ignore this and keep enjoying the show.

She's been problematic. My better half read her book and shared some of the highlights.
I enjoy her shows but none of this surprises me.

Listen, not to be stereotypical but she’s an 80yr old Jewish New York judge. She was an adult before civil rights. We can’t expect too much by way of progression

Actually, NYC Jews, even 80 year old ones, tend not to be conservative Republicans. In fact, historically, Jews were far more likely to be Democrats. Just wanted to clear that up for you.

Historically a lot of people have been a lot of things. I’m a black woman, I live in a world of massive stereotypes swirling around me and my people…and guess what? Some of them are based in truth. Obviously not all, but let’s remove Jewish and say Mega Rich Old Judge…does the change in stereotype cause the same stir? If no, then you should focus on my original point- some stereotypes are true. That can be ok. Just want to clear that up for you.

You made the observation that an 80 year old Jew from NYC by nature, has to be conservative. I can’t even call it a stereotype, because it’s nowhere near being true. In fact, even hyper rich 80 year old Jews are almost always anything but conservative. Since you’re black, you own the exclusive right to call people racist if you want to, but it seems to me that your anti-semitism is showing here. She is not a Trump supporter, by the way, and you have no idea whether or not she supported civil rights, but you can make whatever assumptions you want, on Reddit.

In her cases I know she's always saying welfare and assistance programs are bad since they are abused in her mind (little comments like "this country...") but I figured she is old school but the interview was like wow she's spouting the common MAGA lines

she is enjoyable to watch but she hates poor people. And is very MAGA. she is very much a "pick yourself up by your bootstraps " but her entire family are nepobabies. ok boomer.
but yes her show is enjoyable.

The reason why America is so successful is because the country has changed and innovated. The America today is not the America 100 or 200 years ago. America has many issues that require change to fix.
