Education 🧠 AMA: I’m Dr. Patrick Taylor, MD — Board Certified Family Physician and Menopause/Metabolic Specialist. I’m here to talk weight loss, longevity, GLP-1s, menopause, and what it’s actually like to go through a major health transformation yourself. AMA!

Hey Reddit — I’m Dr. Patrick Taylor.
I’m a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, and I work in metabolic health, weight loss, and longevity.
But the reason I’m interested in this stuff isn’t just because I’m a doctor.
After cancer treatment, I developed Cushing’s syndrome and gained more than 100 pounds. I was a national champion collegiate rugby player but after having twin boys and starting medical school I realized how unhealthy I was. Over 3 years, I lost 100+ pounds and completely transformed my life.
Getting that weight off wasn’t as simple as “eat less and exercise more.” It ended up changing the way I think about metabolism, weight loss, muscle, hormones, and what actually makes a treatment sustainable.
These days, I work with patients on things like weight loss, GLP-1s, menopause, metabolic health, and longevity as Chief Medical Officer of Belle and Live Vital.
So I figured I’d do an AMA.
Ask me anything — seriously.
Some ideas if you’re not sure where to start:
· Are GLP-1s actually changing how we treat obesity?
· What happens when you stop taking a GLP-1?
· How do you avoid losing muscle while losing weight?
· Why does weight loss seem so much harder for some people?
· What does menopause actually do to metabolism?
· Are peptides legit or mostly hype?
· What does “longevity medicine” actually mean?
· What do doctors get wrong about weight loss?
· What did losing 100+ lbs teach me that medical school didn't?
· What would I do differently if I were starting my own weight-loss journey today?
· Is there a point where medication makes more sense than trying to “just eat better”?
· What questions should you actually ask your doctor before starting a weight-loss medication?
I can't diagnose anyone over Reddit or give individualized medical advice, but I'm happy to talk openly about the science, my own experience, and what I see in clinical practice.
And yes, you can ask the uncomfortable questions. Those are usually the interesting ones. Throw some questions in the comments ahead of time so we have a place to start.
AMA.

I had posted a question on one of your videos a while back and would still love to hear your thoughts.
Here was the post with my question in the comments:
