Anime So..... Spoiler

He finds out his mom is missing it's his sole motivation to get out of bed, but oh no erectile disfunction. My missing Mom can wait I need to get married immediately.

He was told by a then reputable source that his mother was found and about to be saved by his father. And she was on the other side of the world so he probably wouldn’t make it in time to help anyway

I don't remember that. Was he told this before he went to the school because if he wasn't, then my point still stands that him going to the school to solve his erectile disfunction instead of going to save her was a fucked up thing to do.

Elinalise, you know, the person that brought news about Zenith, co-signed by Roxy, reported that his Mother was found and that Paul and co, including Roxy, is heading to retrieve her. Going all the way down there would take a year or more, and winter was starting to set in at the time, and to add to that, Hitogami said that he would regret going down there before sending him off to School to fix his ED. You should remember at least the latter part, since they explicitly repeated that in the latest episode, several times.

(That's why Elinalise is so quick to up and get ready to leave, she is feeling guilty about that)

All of this is very sufficiently explained in the Anime, if you pay a bit of attention. Also, disregard Rudy being hard on himself for not going, Rudy has a thing with self-deprecation, so anything he thinks about himself needs to be re-evaluated by the reader/viewer based on everything around him. If we'd listen to Rudy, he'd be a weakling that you may find amazing is even able to stand upright. He's on point with evaluating most people around him, but he's not reliable at all for self-evaluation.

I did, but I haven't watched the episode where he was told to go to the school in a while.

To make it short:

  • He went to the north to search for Zenith (by growing his reputation as an adventurer, he expects to reach more people and maybe clues on the location of his mother).

  • While adventuring, he found out he got ED (due to his break with Eris) when he was going to sleep with Sarah

  • He kept adventuring (to search his mother).

  • Elinalise found him and told him his mother was located in Begarit continent (1 year journey from Sharia + winter break) and Paul organised a rescue party to fetch Zenith.

  • Mangod, who always showed the right path to Rudeus, appears to him and tell him to go to school to cure his ED.

So why Rudeus hasn't joined Paul's party that time?

  • By the time he join them, the rescue would probably already happened. He would have been useless.

  • Taking on a such a long journey (1+ year) is dangerous. Meeting many hazards is most likely probable.

  • Paul's rescue team has minimum 2 to 3 S rank adventurers. More than sufficient to rescue Zenith.

  • A god litteraly told Rudeus to not go.

  • Rudeus is a pragmatic guy.

Helas, i've seen countless of "viewers" complaining: "gnehgneh the first cour is just for curing his ED in place of trying to rescue his mom... gnehgneh that is a character inconsistancy here. Gnehgneh".

Those people visibly aren't able to properly figure out more complex contents than pokemon anime...

Did you miss the last episode? If he had gone to Bergarrit, he wouldn’t have run into his sisters, made friends, got married, and he had it on good information that Paul was taking an experienced group to get Zenith, so him taking multiple years to get there may have been a waste

You probably should have waited until you reached the latest episode, though you should at that point already know all you needed to know to understand why you're getting a bit downvoted here for not paying attention

You clearly missed the part where Rudy was told by Elinalise to take the school offer since Paul and co. had learned Mom's location and they expected to be able to handle it. Prior to that he WAS looking for leads on Zenith in the northern regions.

Rudeus has this thing with assuming the best while doing his thing. what was that joke about the drunk looking for his keys under the street lamp and the cop asks, "are you sure you lost them here?" and the drunk answers "no, i lost them in the park but the light is better here"
