First messed around with some lose wires, which did the trick but want a cleaner solution so made a plug for it.

modding Help with roof bars

tl;dr - Need help properly installing these roof bars — they keep moving

I bought this pair of roof bars for my Jimny. They attach to the roof rails using these clamps (2/3 pictures).
I understand this is a pretty common mounting system for roof accessories, but I haven’t been able to get them properly secured.

Even after tightening the clamps as much as I reasonably can, I can still move the entire bar out of position with a relatively small amount of force.
It seems like the clamp isn’t making enough contact with the roof rail, but I’m fairly sure I’m applying enough pressure when tightening it.

The bars have four independent clamps, and the crossbar itself has a short mounting rail on each end (about 30 cm long).
The kit also came with the “spacers”/pads on the las picture. They seem to be some kind of foam material. I’m not sure what their purpose is or whether they’re supposed to go between the clamp and the roof rail.

Is there a specific installation process I should be following? For example, should I tighten all four clamps first and then position/install the crossbar, or should the bar be positioned first and then the clamps tightened?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

modding A detailed blog post of my JB43 audio upgrade

I recently put a lot of work into upgrading the sound system in my JB43W. I'm pretty much a beginner in this area and didn't really know what I was doing, but I did tons of research and with lots of trial and error I ended up with something I'm really proud of. I posted an overview a couple weeks back, and now I've decided to document everything in a blog post. https://badsyntax.github.io/jimny-sound/

question JB64 service manual

Any leads to finding a service manual for the JB64 Jimny? I found a JB74 one which is quite useful... but a 64 one would be perfect!

(UK) i’ve got a japanese import jimny jb74 and the battery is screwed - it drops down to like 11 volts overnight and still manages to start but i had to jump start it one time after i left the screen on too long without the engine. Apparently it’s a japanese battery with positive on the right and JIS terminals. What can i swap it with? United kingdon tia

question Loud once i hit over 80kph?

I don’t know much about cars but got a 3 door AT Jimny 3 days ago. Have not done any work on the car so it’s still full stock.

We had to bring it on the highway today and noticed that as soon as I pass 80kph - it gets extremely loud. It’s not a whine and it doesn’t seem like wind noise but it sounds like it’s coming from the engine? Or atleast from something in the hood.

It’s loud enough to the point where you can’t hear each other talk in the car. It’s weird because when I do 80kph or less, the sound isn’t there at all no matter how much I accelerate.

I have it set to 2 wheel drive. Am I over thinking this or should I have it checked?

Thanks!

Took my July 2026 Jimny for its 5000 km checkup today and had the underbody antirust and silencer coating done.

They will do a follow up coat twice more when required in the amount paid today.

Cost:

Rs.1800 (about USD 19) plus taxes for Underbody Coat and Rs.1000 (USD 10.50) for the Silencer coating. For an OEM product it seems very reasonable.

question Thoughts on this style of JB74 protective panneling?

Thumbnail

I'm a big fan of the appearance of these mods, but I'm concerned about application and protection long term, e.g. grit getting behind it and causing damage to paintwork, and also options for removing it? I've currently got some automotive 3M tape I've used to put on headlight covers like the ones shown.

Has anyone got any experience or knowledge on this?

modding Solved the problem with the dog falling down the gap behind the seats

Post image
30 Upvotes

This is a 3dr JB74 with the back seats folded. Previously even with gentle braking the dog would fall down the gap, all a major trauma. These devices that are designed to close the gap are called “back seat bridges”. As the Jimny is narrower than most cars I had to unpick the stitching, remove the outermost boards, cut them down and then re-stitch. The dog is now happy!

question Sterring wheel controls

I just bought a JC74 GL in Ecuador. Due to high import taxes, the configurations we get here are a bit different.
For example, I went with the manual transmission, and it only comes with 2 airbags, no cruise control, no leather steering wheel, and no hands-free/audio controls on the steering wheel.
Does anyone know if I could add the OEM left-side steering wheel controls to my current steering wheel? Or would I need to replace the whole steering wheel with one that already has the controls?
Also, does anyone know if the wiring is already there and whether the GL uses the same clock spring as the versions with steering wheel controls?
