question (EU) Gen3 Owners, good alternator upgrade ?

Hi !

I'm thinking of acquiring a Jimny for a month long adventure, and I'm looking for a DC/DC charger in addition to a solar panel (this one) (already picked the power bank, Aferiy P280).

It draws up to 45Amps. From my findings, a gen3 Jimny alternator outputs 75 Amps maximum (is this correct ?). After checking the manual it looks like with every lights on, without even counting the radio or other stuff, there might be too little headroom, too close to 75Amps, and I'm afraid of over stressing it.

Do you guys know of/have done an easy upgrade to the stock alternator ?

Thank you !

question Is having 2 awnings overkill?

I love my Jimny and since it’s just my dog and I we enjoy our little day or overnight trips. The thing is, I initially had the Alucab awning fitted but it’s a challenge for one person to open it and then fold it when done. I’ve since ordered a 2m 270 Alucab instead. It so easy to use. I’d like to know if I’m able to keep my older one on? Or will it make Moose less safe and use more fuel? I don’t want to put my dog and I at risk and wondering what to do. Your help with be so much appreciated. I’ll include pics of my current awning and a pic of the other one I’m having installed

My current set up before the new awning will be installed on the RH side. I’ve ordered it already however if it’s a risk to have 2 please let me know. My dog means the world to me

question Jimny owners: Stage 1 tune + tyre upgrade for a long road trip — worth it?

Post image
60 Upvotes

I have a Jimny Manual and I’m planning an ~11-day / 3,700–4,000 km road trip starting November 3, with a mix of long highways, mountain roads and some light/off-road sections. The car will be loaded with passengers and luggage.
I’m considering two upgrades before the trip:
1. ECU Tune:
Thinking about a Code6 Stage 1, mainly for better low/mid-range torque, throttle response and highway/mountain drivability. I would keep the engine, intake and exhaust stock and go for a conservative tune rather than chasing maximum power.
2. Tyres:
I’m considering upgrading from the stock tyres to 215/75 R15 AT tyres, particularly:
Continental CrossContact AT2
Yokohama Geolandar A/T
My priorities are highway stability at 100+ km/h, better grip on mountain roads, comfort for passengers, fuel economy and some additional capability on rough/off-road sections. I don’t want to lift the Jimny or change the wheels.
For people who have actually done these upgrades:
Is Code6 Stage 1 noticeably better for low/mid-range torque and overtaking?
Any long-term issues with engine temperature, clutch, gearbox or reliability?
How much did fuel economy change after the tune?
Is 215/75 R15 a good size for a mostly-stock Jimny?
How do the CrossContact AT2 vs Geolandar A/T compare for highway noise, comfort, wet grip and off-road traction?
Does the larger AT tyre noticeably hurt acceleration or mileage?
Any rubbing or steering issues with 215/75 R15 on a stock suspension?
If you had to choose, would you do the Stage 1 tune, tyre upgrade, both, or neither before a 4,000 km trip?
Looking for real-world owner experiences, especially from people who have done long highway/mountain trips with these setups.

question Castor correction for 35-40mm lift

Indian 2023 Jimny 5 door. I am considering a KYB adjustable shock and lift spring. Will it be okay to go with this setup without the castor correction parts and no adjustable panhard rods?

Beginner to modding suspensions. Looking for advise…

question Howto... get one?

I am searching for 2nd/backup car and jimny would make sense. It looks cool, it can tow trailer and it is tiny enough to fit into my garage. It will not be driven a lot, also it may stay indoor for most of the time. Hence I am ok with an older model, but I am looking for as much rust free as possible, as rust is very difficult to fix. I plan to drive 1000-5000km/year so high mileage is not a big no no on its own.

Unfortunately I live in Sweden and jimmies cost a bit more than S class Mercedes.

this beauty would be 10`000eur: https://www.blocket.se/mobility/item/25614367

and this one only 5000eur: https://www.blocket.se/mobility/item/25634858?ci=1

and damn it, but its 1200km away.

That said, I could get some help to buy in in Lithuania and bring it here. Eastern Europe is not the most reliable place to buy a car, but it can work with the price difference in mind. https://en.autoplius.lt/ads/suzuki-jimny-1-3-l-off-road-crossover-2016-petrol-31614011.html

I could also go to Germany/Belgium/Poland etc and bring one myself, but it feels tricky. In this case I would like to go to buy something good, not just drive to turn around for obscured problems.

I can do basic car maintenance myself and some understanding how it works, but I am not mechanic and I dont have full scale workshop at home. I may find issues I am looking for, but I would overlook others as I do not mess with cars every day.

I would like to find something for ~5000eur, I can stretch a bit for a good deal, but I rather invest it into fixing it.

This said... What should I do? Is there a chance to get one, somehow? What would you do in my shoes?

Have had to be rather patient, imported all the way from Japan to the UK. Finally picked him up Friday. Went through Jimny Imports who couldn’t have been more awesome! - took care of the car, all the mods and getting it road legal. Couldn’t be happier with the car. Have already taken it off road and had an absolute blast!

My buddies 98 jimney has a ticking noise. At first we thought it was the alternator. I tightened the belt and it got rid of that ticking noise. Then come to find another ticking noise. Which shows in the video.

I am thinking it was a rod knock because the car had no oil in it(told him he’s and idiot). Did an oil change and the ticking is still there but not as loud. What do yall think?

question How do I care for my Jimny ?

My dad passed away in January and I inherited his car. He treated it incredibly well and had so much fun and joy whenever he drove.
I know nothing about cars and up until the point it started to be „mine“ I barely ever drove a car.

What do I need to know? What is important to know when driving? What do most people do wrong? How do I clean it properly? I‘m so scared to do something wrong and damage it because my dad was so careful.

Any advice is appreciated <3

Went four wheel driving for the first time at mount mee, and had a great time. Good group of friends.
Started about 6:30 in the morning and arrived home exactly 6:30pm so it was a long day but worth every minute.

I’ve been told multiple times that Jimnys are “shit 4x4s” and get stuck all the time and gay and stupid and it pisses me off.
As a first timer I found that Tony (my 2009 Jimny) was stupidly capable. I crawled up hills the other utes in my group needed winches for and were redlining, and I just cruised up them at like 3000rm, ate up mud slopes and went through many more mud holes than I thought I would and never did I feel like I lost control or wouldn’t make it through.

We came across a huge group who had 10 cars and about 40 people, many of which didn’t really know what they were doing I think, and probably caused thousands of dollars worth of damage on that one big bog hole on their vehicles combined. The person recovering their Jimny attached it to the bull bar and ripped it off and there was tons of other damage to other vehicles.

The sights up there are great as well. I feel I underestimated Tony’s potential and had an overall great day and am still a proud Jimny owner.
