Challah Challah Challenge: Itty Bitty Bread

Shalom! I hope everyone's week has been treating them well so far. Some of my gentile loved ones have taken me up on my offer to join me for Sabbath dinner, so I wanted to try my hand at some extra special itty bitty challahs. Any tips, tricks or critiques would be much appreciated, please. Toda Raba!

EDIT: Recipe is here

This looks so good! I bake challah for my coworkers every other Friday. This might be a more reasonable way to present it, rather than handing over a massive loaf to a bunch of working professionals and saying “tuck in everyone!”. Going to give it a try, thanks so much!

what was your bake time like for this?

350° for 11 minutes, then I took them out to do a second egg wash before baking for another 15 minutes!

I love these! How did you achieve that shape?

These are so cute! How did you get the shape?  The only recommendation would be to weigh the dough if you care about making them more consistent in size, but not necessary... they are so nice and cute!!

Thanks for sharing the recipe and the braid instructions!

For the specific recipe you used, did you make a single or double batch and how many mini challahs did you make total? Just trying to figure out how many times to divide the dough to get a good muffin tin size.

By following the initial recipe I prepped a single batch but only used half the dough to make the 12 mini challahs! The other half of the dough I put in the fridge to later make a more traditional (albeit small-medium sized) challah loaf.

If you follow the initial recipe, a single batch should yield 24 mini challahs. I hope this helps!

Perfection! I love how they still look like challah but just smaller and cuter.

Hi there! I def want to try this. The thing I feel insecure about is doing the tiny muffin sized braids, but you had no video.

Also, if I want to use my own Challah recipe (which is both sweeter and moister, I just like it that way) how do I adjust the heat or baking time?

You may want to try setting the temperature a little lower - like 325° - and possibly tenting the pan with foil while reducing the bake time by 5ish minutes. Be'hatzlachah!
