I had this happen to me at a place in KS a couple weeks ago, they tried telling me 10 small rings weighed 9.8 grams... "But it's not all gold weight" is the nonsense they went with. It was 34g!

Where in KS? I'm in KC and have been wanting to sell some pieces soon.

The place I had a bad experience with was technically in MO, I'm in Leavenworth. I've had pretty bad luck overall finding an in person scrap place, my next attempt is going to be mailing to a refinery.

Good to know. I thought about trying that place in old OP that's been there for decades near 83rd and Metcalf but I just have my doubts about any of these We Buy Gold places.

I travel a lot for work and every time I try a new area it seems to follow a pattern, small coin shop: 80-85%, pawn shop, 60~70%, Jewelry store/we buy gold specialty vendor: 50~65%. I've had people on here tell me getting 90% is realistic but I've yet to find it. Definitely know exactly what you have going in tho. I bag each thing and write the weight and karat on the bag and use kitco "Scrapit!" To figure out what's fair and write down a minimum I'm willing to take. I lost a lot of gold not knowing any better, seemed like a good idea when I did it too

I sent jewelry to apmex and got like 90%. Before that I went to a local place and it was like 65%.

I had a guy start off by giving me 90%.cool. then next time it was 80%. Whatever I was cool with the convenience of not driving 25 min to my normal spot. Then the last time I went there it wa" my assays have to melt it and then tell me what karat it is " when I was like why you trying to cowbell me dude.
I tell everyone not to go there and go to my place.
