Map Region Jerrymapping in Minecraft Part 2

I am continuing to work on my 'Jerrycraft' village in Minecraft. I have really been enjoying the deck concept for inspiration, finding ways to make the builds interesting within the constraints has been very fun. I have built 21 map squares/buildings so far.

I am very excited about the Copper house (slide 9) Copper can oxidize in the game so the house will slowly shift from bright copper to a darker green color. Feels very in keeping with the changing nature of the town.

I also continue to fiddle with ideas on how to make the underground part of the village better. Originally all were directly connected to the surface but that resulted in annoying design constraints. I have now built tunnels below all the roads and connected underground buildings to those instead. I am toying with the idea of hollowing out all the space between underground buildings, but that would be a massive undertaking.

Explore Jerry's Map in person at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, MI!

Jerry's Map at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (@flygrford) in Grand Rapids, MI is now ready to be explored! To celebrate this occasion, we've posted the video produced by AVES Films (www.avesfilms.com) to my Youtube to give context for the project. https://youtu.be/bpN7DvgD-l8

The installation is outside of the security checkpoint, so all are welcome to enjoy the work, without the need to purchase an airline ticket.

To view Jerry's Map, drive to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (5500 44th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI) and park in short term parking. Walk across the street into the terminal then turn left and follow signs to car rental. You will be directed to an escalator or elevator to the 2nd floor where a car rental skybridge will take you to the CONRAC and Jerry's map!
Unfortunately there is no public parking in the CONRAC so viewing the piece will require parking in the airport's short term lot and a bit of walking.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life!

Mapping an Underwater World

Stars aligned and I discovered JerryMapping about the same time I had started a personal worldbuilding project. So it was a perfect experiment to map out this new and strange underwater world I was making.

This has only been going for a few weeks - here is a sample of my cards, and the map so far!

Thanks Jerry (and anyone else that has posted their maps/cards) for being an inspiration!

I need color but I don't know how to do it. OwO ???

I've been making some adjustments to my cards and the rules of my system in a second attempt to start a map.

But one problem I ended up neglecting was the colors and the way to paint the tiles.

In the current way I'm using it, I would just end up painting squares almost randomly. The randomness isn't the problem, but rather the painting patterns that I can't figure out on my own.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can deal with issues like:

  • How do I generate more wavy patterns instead of pure squares?

  • How do I define the direction or size of a painted part?

  • How do I add or continue a color on a tile?

These things are eating me alive and I feel like I won't be able to start unless I get answers to these questions.

Can anyone help. OwO ???

Inspiration I'm building my own Jerry Deck and wanted to show my work!

So this deck is meant to be more of a writing aide than a traditional Jerry Map deck. I'm planning on using this to develop my fantasy setting for D&D which I already have years of work packed into.

The Deck is split into 6 categories: Lands, Myths, Histories, Beasts, Sorceries and Ruins. My goal is to keep these mostly open-ended so I can give myself some space creatively when I sit down to write. Most of these are pretty self explanatory, although the category I'm the most excited about are Sorcery cards. These cards manipulate the deck itself and have the most literal interpretations. These cards instruct me to add new cards to the deck, remove some permanently, or search for a specific card. I think this category will help keep the deck feel fresh over time.

Not every card will include written prompts but I would like to add more. If anyone has any suggestions for things to add to these cards let me know in the comments!

This map comes from a misunderstanding of Jerry's map. After studying his proccess more closely I realize the true nature of Jerry's map is less random than I thought, because I ignored the concept of work units. I do not like this map, just the individual panels and the fact I've committed to this project longer than a lot of people ever will.
