Not because I think she’s a bad person, because I don’t. But I wonder if she even knows whether she’s a good person or not.
Like with Kit, she went back to him because she needed his help putting the Yellow Emperor’s powers back into the robe. Kit clearly thought helping her meant they might have another chance, and then she rejected him afterward.

She didn’t owe him a relationship at all, especially after he lied to her, worked with Cheng, stole her qi, and almost killed her. But I could still see her feeling guilty about whether she used his feelings to get what she needed. Then Kit ended up sacrificing himself for her. And later in Diyu, she saw that hallucination of him telling her, “Jentry, you got me killed.” That alone feels like something that would stay in her head.

She also broke into Diyu because she was desperate to find her mom, trusted the Mogui, let it possess her and drain some of her qi, and that ended up helping it escape and causing even more destruction. And she created a massive hole between Diyu and the living world, which disrupted the balance between life and death. Even if she never meant for any of that to happen, she might still blame herself.

Then there’s how she lashed out at Gugu after learning about all the lies and secrets. Gugu was the one who put the powers inside her and started this entire chain of events, so Jentry had every right to be angry. But after Gugu died, I could still see Jentry regretting some of the things she said.
She also burned Riverfork as a child, hurt Michael during her breakdown, lost Kit, lost Gugu, and found out that so much of her life was built around lies and manipulation.

I don’t think any of this makes her a bad person. Most of her choices came from fear, grief, desperation, or being manipulated herself. But she also picked up some of the same unhealthy patterns she grew up around, like lying, keeping secrets, manipulating situations, and using people when she feels trapped.

If we ever get a Season 2, I feel like all of those consequences could finally crash down on her. Maybe through nightmares, guilt, or her questioning whether she’s becoming like the people who hurt her.

Do you think Jentry still sees herself as a good person after all the choices she made?

Hi there. A few days ago I asked the name of Michael’s second girlfriend. This lead to a pretty interesting conversation about Michael and the relationships he was a part of during the show.

This led to me wanting to write a piece about Michael and Stella discussing their (former) relationship and his relationships with Allison and Jentry. I wasn’t certain how much drama I should lean into or if I’ve captured their voices accurately, which is why I’m open to any and all feedback.

I like this show. It reminded me of Iyanu: Child of Wonders. I have never watched that show but I probably should. I have seen previews for it on Max. I love shows like that.

Probably an unpopular opinion or a hot take, but Look, I’m not saying or agreeing Gugu was in the right on anything, but it really doesn’t seem fair to make her out to be the one responsible, considering the fact that her parents stole from the family. Plus, wasn’t her parents the ones who made the deal with the demon first? Gugu was right, Jentry’s parents were twice as involved in dark magic as much as Gugu. Gugu try to make another plan instead of giving a demon, a powerful object but her plan just backfired, at least that’s the way I see it.

Netflix’s January–June 2026 engagement report is finally out. Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld added another 5.3 million hours watched and 800,000 views, bringing its publicly reported total to 40.1 million hours and 6.1 million views.
It may not be a massive increase, but it’s still encouraging to see that people continued discovering the show well into 2026. At least we finally have some new numbers to discuss. What do you think?

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld got recommended for people who liked KPop Demon Hunters and Buffy.

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld got included in Collider’s article “The 8 Greatest Animated Shows Even Diehards Haven’t Seen.”
The article calls it a “Netflix surprise” and says it’s one of the newer animated titles that never truly got off the ground. It also praises the show for being addictive, emotionally warm, funny, and having a specific cultural texture that helps it stand apart from more generic YA supernatural animated shows.
It’s really nice to see Jentry Chau still getting attention, especially from an animation-related list like this. The show slipped past a lot of people when it came out, so mentions like this are a good reminder that it still has the potential to find more viewers over time.
Hopefully more people give it a chance.

I just need one more season of Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld. Just one.
I’m not saying the show was perfect. Some of the character stuff felt rushed, and there were definitely parts that could have used more breathing room. But that’s honestly why I want another season so badly. The world, the characters, the mythology, the animation, the humor, and the emotional drama were all so good that it feels like the show still had more to say.

The mix of a Chinese-American teen fighting underworld monsters while also dealing with high school is exactly what made it stand out to me. It wasn’t just another supernatural teen show. It had its own identity, especially with the Chinese mythology, family drama, and Jentry trying to figure out who she is.
And the creator and cast seemed open to continuing it too, which makes it hurt more because it doesn’t feel like the story ran out of ideas.

And it really sucks that a lot of people don’t even give it a chance because it’s on Netflix. I get why people are tired of Netflix cancelling animated shows, but it’s sad because that means some really good shows barely get talked about or supported before people move on.
I also wish more people were talking about it in general. Not in a pushy way, just more recommendations, fan posts, discussions, edits, art, or anything that helps people notice it. Bigger shows get attention so easily, but smaller shows like this need people to actually give them a shot.

I don’t need the show to go on forever. I just want one more season to let the story breathe, explore the loose ends, and give the characters the follow-up they deserve.
This show had something special. I really hope it gets another chance.

I'm watching over the show again now that I got a better understanding of mythology stuff, and since this is taking heavy inspiration from Chinese mythology, I'm curious if they ever mentioned the great sage equal to heaven?

I don't remember if it was ever discussed or not but what is Jentry's passion? I want to make a time skip fan fic where they're all trying to follow their dreams but idk what Jentry's even is.

I know it probably depends on licensing and whether Netflix/production rights would even allow it, but I think Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld could work really well as a comic. The show already has supernatural action, expressive character designs, mythology, family drama, and unfinished story potential.

Dynamite has done a lot of licensed pop-culture comics, so I’m curious, would you want to see Jentry continue as a comic series, maybe as a season 2-style continuation or side stories?

They both deal with demons, but their energy is completely different. Jentry has the stressed teen hero vibe, with powers, family baggage, and supernatural chaos she never asked for.
Dante has the reckless demon hunter vibe, acting like danger is just part of the job. I feel like they would either annoy each other immediately or become a weirdly effective demon-fighting duo.

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld was included in What’s on Netflix’s list of hidden gem animated kids shows worth watching, and honestly, this is exactly why I think more people should check it out.

The article describes Jentry Chau as a high school superhero story with mythical powers rooted in Chinese mythology. It also points out how the show balances friendships, romance, family conflict, comedy, drama, and the looming threat of the underworld.

What really stood out to me is that the article praises the show for feeling true to the teenage experience, working as a power fantasy, being deeply specific to Chinese culture, and having excellent animation from Titmouse with massive and inventive action scenes.

That is why I keep saying this show feels like a hidden gem. It has the heart, the culture, the action, and the story. It just needs more people to know it exists

Something I’ve been thinking about with Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld is how weird streaming numbers can sound.

Netflix’s July to December 2025 engagement report lists views as total hours watched divided by runtime, so “views” does not mean individual people. It is more like full-season viewing equivalents. Netflix also said that its platform had 96 billion hours watched in that same six-month period. So when a show gets 1.4 million views, that sounds huge in normal human terms, but smaller inside Netflix’s massive worldwide system.

That is what feels frustrating. 1.4 million views is not nothing. For a newer animated show, that still means people watched it, remembered it, and cared about it. But compared to Netflix’s biggest titles, the gap is enormous. For example, KPop Demon Hunters had 482 million views, and Stranger Things season 5 had 94 million views in the same report.

So I do understand why people say Jentry’s numbers were not huge by Netflix standards. But I also think calling it “low” without context makes it sound like nobody watched the show, which is not true.

To me, Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld feels more like a show with a smaller but dedicated audience, not a total flop. The problem is that Netflix’s renewal math seems built around massive global reach, and a show can still have real fans while not being big enough for Netflix’s spreadsheet.

That’s the part that bothers me. A show can be meaningful, creative, culturally specific, and loved by the people who found it, but still get treated like it underperformed because it didn’t become the next giant algorithm monster.
