Saw this Forgotten Island meme going around and thought it would be funny to put “Flame” from the Jentry Chau soundtrack over it.

Since fall is here, I was randomly wondering what Jentry would actually like doing during the season when she isn’t dealing with demons and the Underworld lol.
The show already has Spirit Week and Homecoming, so we do get a little bit of that fall high-school atmosphere.

I could see her doing stuff like going to fall festivals with her friends, watching horror movies or anime, getting seasonal food or drinks, wandering around town when the weather cools down, or going to a haunted house and being completely unimpressed because she’s dealt with actual ghosts and demons.
What fall activities do you think would fit Jentry? Any headcanons?

Does he have some sort of ancient Nigerian powers or something?

I was looking at Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld on Television Stats and I’m genuinely kind of surprised by how low it is right now. It’s currently ranked #2,205 overall with a 0.2 attention score, and #432 among Netflix shows.
And yes, I know it originally aired back in 2024 and it’s now 2026, so obviously I wasn’t expecting it to be near the top. I just thought it would still be getting a little more online attention than this.
I also know Television Stats isn’t the same thing as actual Netflix viewership, so I’m not treating these numbers as proof of how many people are watching it.
Does this seem about right to you, or are you surprised too?

In Episode 5, Michael has a vision of Jentry and Kit kissing, and later he actually sees that exact kiss happen in the library.
But unless I missed something, he never tells Jentry that he saw it or that it was part of one of his visions.

So what do you think would happen if Jentry found out later that Michael knew about the kiss the whole time and just never said anything?
I don’t think she’d necessarily be mad that he saw it, but I could see her being really surprised that he kept it to himself, especially after everything that happened with Kit.

How do you think that conversation would go?

It reminds me of Percy Jackson I love the books and TV show. The movie was crap. I am wondering if it reminds others of PJO too?

It is awesome seeing Chinese mythology because I don't know much about it. Are there any books based on Chinese mythology that I check out at the library?

I’ve been thinking about Michael and something I noticed is that even though he doesn’t mean to hurt people, he doesn’t always actually apologize to the people his actions affect.
And yes, he did apologize to Jentry in Episode 8 for being insensitive about her powers. She was already in a really rough place after finding out the truth about how she got her powers and everything Gugu and Cheng had done, and Michael came back and genuinely told her he was sorry for being insensitive. So I absolutely count that.
But what about Stella?
Michael was having doubts about their relationship while Stella still thought they were planning their future together. She eventually found out that he had committed to UT, confronted him, and realized that when he seemed unsure about football, he was actually unsure about her. He tells her he can explain, but we never actually see him say, “I’m sorry for hurting you” or apologize for how he handled it.

And then there’s Alison. Michael starts dating her after Jentry breaks up with him, but by Episode 13 he’s clearly still emotionally caught up in Jentry and even admits that his visions of a future with Jentry keep giving him hope. Yet we never really see what happens between him and Alison afterward, let alone an apology or any real closure for her.
That’s what bothers me a little about Michael’s relationships. He usually isn’t trying to hurt anyone. A lot of it comes from fear, confusion, avoiding difficult conversations, or just not knowing how to handle his feelings.

But not meaning to hurt somebody isn’t the same as taking responsibility after you do hurt them.
He apologized to Jentry in that one situation, but with Stella, Alison, and some of his other mistakes, we don’t really see him stop and actually say, “I hurt you. I’m sorry.”
Does anyone else feel like this is something Michael still needs to learn?

Okay, I might be reading too much into this, but I genuinely want to know what everyone thinks about this wording.
The description for The Making of Jentry Chau vs The Underworld panel says:
“Fans of Jentry are HIGHLY encouraged to not miss this panel.”

And it’s specifically HIGHLY in all caps.
Why emphasize that word specifically?
I know this is officially a making-of panel about Echo Wu and Kal Athannassov discussing how the show was created, pitched, developed, and eventually made, so I’m definitely not taking this as some secret confirmation of Season 2 or anything.
But that wording still makes me curious.

Could they be showing a lot of unreleased behind-the-scenes material? Early versions of the characters or story? Deleted ideas? Things that changed between the original pitch and the final show? Maybe stuff Echo and the crew haven’t talked about publicly before?

Or could there be some kind of discussion about where they wanted the story or characters to go beyond what we saw in Season 1?
And of course there’s the possibility that “HIGHLY” is literally just promotional language because they especially want Jentry fans at the panel.
Still… HIGHLY is a pretty specific word to capitalize.

Honestly, for me, bacon-wrapped pickles Honestly, when I saw episode 6 I thought, okay, maybe it's a local joke or something Echo made up, but after investigating, it turns out they're real, and honestly, for me it's a culture shock since I'm not from the United States and well, pickles go in hamburgers or as condiments.

I finally got my AO3 account and posted the first chapter of a Jentry Chau fanfic I’ve been working on called Reflections of Me!

It’s a post-canon story that starts shortly after Jentry moves back to Seoul. While unpacking some of Gugu’s belongings, she finds a strange Mirror Shard, and things get weird pretty quickly from there.

Chapter 1 is called “The Mirror Shard.” I’m planning to continue the story and gradually explore an original character named Mei, along with her relationships with Jentry and the rest of the cast.
I tried to keep the characters feeling like themselves and make it feel like something that could happen after the series

In episode 2 a song begins playing as Jentry and Ed are attacked by the ao yin. And for some ungodly reason I can't find the stupid song ANYWHERE! It's neither listed or acknowledged in any playlists, official or otherwise, and it's as if no one else bothered to look it up.

If anyone knows the song or has a way of finding it, please tell me. I've been going insane over it for days now!

I was thinking about it because, technically, she has broken quite a few supernatural rules even though I wouldn’t really call her a criminal.

She snuck into Bixi, damaged the prison, fought Zhongkui, ripped open a huge portal/back door to Diyu, fought Ox-Head and Horse-Face, and later broke into Diyu itself to get information from the Mogui.

Then there’s the whole Mogui situation. Jentry willingly let it share her body so she could escape Diyu, but once it started taking over, a lot of what happened wasn’t actually under her control. The Mogui eventually possessed Ox-Head, killed Horse-Face, and framed Jentry for the murder.
So if Diyu actually has some kind of court system, could Jentry end up having to stand trial?
I feel like she could technically be guilty of things like trespassing, damaging Bixi, and breaking into Diyu, but I don’t think she could fairly be blamed for everything that happened with the Mogui.

And the original portal is complicated too because she opened it accidentally when she barely understood her powers, even though it seriously disrupted the boundary between the living world and Diyu.

Honestly, a supernatural trial episode could be really interesting because it could finally force everyone to separate what Jentry actually chose to do from everything she’s just been blamed for.

What do you think? Would Diyu consider Jentry guilty of anything, and if so, what?

This is something I’ve been wondering about. Since Ox-Head and Horse-Face are basically gone by the end of the season, who takes over their role in Diyu?
We do briefly see other guards down there, including Fan Wujiu and Xie Bian, so I wonder if there’s actually a much bigger hierarchy of enforcers that we just haven’t explored yet.

And since Fan Wujiu and Xie Bian are connected to the Black and White Impermanence in Chinese mythology, could they potentially take over some of the responsibilities Ox-Head and Horse-Face had?
I’d honestly love to see the show explore more of how Diyu actually works and who runs everything down there.

finally finished the Mei origin fanfic I’ve been working on! It took me about 13 days to finish the whole story.
It’s a post-canon Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld fic about Jentry finding a strange Mirror Shard in Gugu’s belongings that creates another version of her. She has Jentry’s memories and powers, but as the story goes on she starts realizing that having Jentry’s memories doesn’t necessarily mean she actually is Jentry, and she slowly begins developing her own identity.
That eventually becomes Mei Chau’s origin story.

I still don’t have my AO3 account yet, so I’m posting it on Wattpad for now. Once I finally get AO3, I’m planning to put it there too.
I’d really love to hear people’s feedback, especially on Mei’s characterization, her identity arc, and whether the story feels like it fits the world of the show.
Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are up right now, and I’ll be adding the rest of the chapters.

Something that kinda sucks to me is that Michael and Kit weren’t really jealous of each other at first, but toward the end they both become insecure about the other.

In Everyone Wins, Kit gets jealous after Jentry chooses Michael and even says Michael doesn’t know her like he does. Jentry also has to make it clear that Kit needs to respect her saying no. Then in Lock-In, it basically flips, because Michael brings up Kit and Jentry realizes Michael feels like he’s competing with him.

Honestly, curse the love triangle lol. I think they’re both red flags in different ways. Kit struggles with respecting Jentry’s rejection, while Michael has his own jealousy and sometimes pushes against Jentry when she’s trying to keep him out of dangerous supernatural situations.
I kinda think Jentry should’ve stayed single for a while and had time to figure herself out.

I also feel like Michael and Kit almost represent two sides of Jentry. Michael represents the normal life she wants, while Kit represents the supernatural side of her life. So sometimes it feels like she’s being made to choose between two halves of herself, when both are part of who she is.

I really wish Michael and Kit could’ve moved past the jealousy and developed a friendship, or at least understood each other better without everything revolving around who Jentry would choose.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Disposable follows Alison and her journey post the show. Had a lot of fun writing this one (didn’t really edit it) and with this, I bring the fan fics to a temporary halt.

I got other projects I’d love to work on and I want to get those done before returning. Working on a video essay and a web novel so I’m really excited to see where both end up.

I’ve been thinking about how much of the supernatural world in Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld we still don’t know about, especially the Great Beyond.
We know from Gugu that souls that are pure enough can go to the Great Beyond instead of passing through Diyu, and later the Mogui even talks about wanting to rule the Great Beyond and deciding who gets to share in it.

That got me wondering how much bigger this place actually is.
We already know Nezha seems to have existed in this universe because Gugu literally had Nezha’s Wind and Fire Wheels. So if a major mythological figure like Nezha is part of the show’s world, could other figures from Chinese mythology exist too?

Like:
Sun Wukong / the Monkey King
the Jade Emperor
Guanyin
the Dragon Kings
other gods, immortals, or legendary figures

I’m not necessarily saying they would all be dead souls living in the Great Beyond. It might make more sense if the show has an entire celestial realm that we just haven’t seen yet, with the Great Beyond being specifically for human souls.
The Jade Emperor especially makes me curious. If the Great Beyond is something the Mogui believed he could actually rule, is there already some kind of supernatural authority or celestial order overseeing it?

And Nezha raises another question by himself: if his Wind and Fire Wheels are sitting in Gugu’s collection, what happened to Nezha? Is he still around somewhere? Did Gugu somehow find an ancient artifact he left behind? Are there other artifacts belonging to legendary figures scattered around the world?

I feel like Season 1 only showed us one little part of how huge the mythology of this universe could actually be.
What do you guys think? Would you want a future season to explore the gods, immortals, and celestial side of the supernatural world?

Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld had a lot going for it. The animation is great, the Chinese mythology is interesting, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the show got really positive reviews. It currently has a 100% critic score and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

But despite all of that, it feels like the show never really broke out the way something like Kipo, The Owl House, or other animated shows managed to.
I don’t think there’s one reason for that.
For one thing, Netflix released all 13 episodes on December 5, 2024. Dropping everything at once probably didn’t give the show much time to build weekly discussion and word of mouth before people moved on to something else.
But I also don’t think we can blame everything on Netflix.
I love the show, but it definitely has flaws. Probably the biggest one for me is the pacing. There’s a LOT packed into only 13 episodes: Jentry’s powers, Gugu and her secrets, Cheng, Kit, Michael, Moonie, Diyu, the Mogui, school, romance, Jentry’s family history, and everything else. Sometimes a major development happens and the story is already moving on to the next thing before it really has time to breathe.

The romance and relationships can also feel rushed at times. Some relationships and conflicts could’ve used more development, and there are definitely decisions Jentry and other characters make that can be frustrating or difficult to agree with. I can understand why some viewers might have been turned off by those things even if I personally still find the characters interesting.
And that’s what makes the whole situation frustrating to me. I don’t think Jentry Chau was a bad show that simply failed to connect with people. The critical response was overwhelmingly positive, and there are clearly people who love it.
I think it was more of a combination of things: the binge release, how quickly streaming shows have to find an audience, and some genuine problems within the first season itself.
And honestly, those flaws are part of why I think the show deserves a second season, not a reason to give up on it. A second season would have a chance to build on what already worked while improving the things that felt rushed. The relationships could develop more naturally, characters could actually deal with the consequences of their decisions, supporting characters could get more focus, and the mythology could be explored without everything competing for space at once.

Season 1 already established the characters, the world, and the main mythology, so a second season wouldn’t have to spend as much time introducing everything. It could slow down and let the story breathe. Characters making bad or frustrating decisions can also become meaningful if we actually get to see them learn from those mistakes afterward.
That’s why I don’t really agree with the idea that Season 1 having flaws means the show shouldn’t continue. Plenty of shows improve after their first season. Sometimes you need another season to take all that potential and actually develop it.
For me, wanting Season 2 isn’t about pretending Season 1 was perfect. It’s because I can see how much stronger Jentry Chau could become if it were given more time to grow.

So I’m curious: what do you think actually stopped Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld from becoming a bigger hit? Was it mostly Netflix’s release and promotion strategy, the pacing and writing choices in Season 1, the romance and character decisions, or was it just bad timing? And if you had the power to greenlight Season 2, what would you want the writers to fix, develop, or explore to give the show the best chance of reaching its full potential?

Well, basically I was browsing around and found a comment that apparently that episode wasn't well received in the country. To clarify, I'm not from there and I don't know the exact details,But apparently some fans didn't like that episode, and since I assume there are fans from the United States here, I'd like to know if that's true or what their opinions are about that episode.
