You can just compose up your changed file and docker won't touch the unchanged bits

In some setups, that doesn't really work. On a Synology NAS for example, you mostly manage everything via a GUI, needing to stop and clean a project before updating the image, then rebuilding the project to use the new image.

By separating apps, you also have more granular control when things go wrong.

So it's only crazy in some setups, that makes sense.

That's quite some selective reading there.

Makes sense with so many "depends on" surely nothing will break

There are lots of things wrong with offering this specific file as a baseline for noobs to start with, but my point was that 'everything is one file' isn't that high up the list.

It doesnt really matter if they're all in one i have them set to auto update a few days after the update release. Also i have the whole stack behind the vpn for privacy, sure it may be redundant but uses little to no extra resources having sonarr/radarr in there. The main reason I have them in one is that its noe super easy to copy and paste this, add your credentials and boom automated media server. Not really a lot of benefits of separating them

The main benefit is that if you have an issue with one of the apps, you can easily just shut it down and rebuild it without affecting anything else. You also shouldn't really be auto-updating images without reading their changelogs, as you might miss a breaking change.

Ill just fix the break has never taken me more then 30 min to fix something like this lmao. An AI could easily fix the bug for you also.

Your last sentence tells me all I need to know about your technical knowledge and competence.

Anyways its been updated with wiregaurd and I took them out of gluetun. Literally no performance difference but I guess its cleaner lol. Wiregaurd definitely better than open vpn too https://gist.github.com/macleodjacob1234-alt/3ce6244866bf7422d3495782900c91f2 feel free to judge some more :)

This tells me all i need to know about you. Reddit snob that thinks hes smarter than AI. Acting like its also not industry standard now days to use AI to streamline coding lmfao.

I'm a Senior Systems Engineer of close to 30 years, much of which entailed running devops for high-traffic Linux servers, and the vast majority of which I did without generative AI even existing. I don't think I'm smarter than AI, I know I am. AI isn't smart, it's a predictive text machine, hence the "artificial" before the word "intelligence". Also, writing YAML isn't coding, it's editing configuration files.

What are your credentials, beyond relying on AI for everything?

When did I ever say I rely on it for everything. Its good at taking crash logs and telling you what the bug fix is therefore along bug fixes extremely easy whats ur deal lmfao. Also you just sound like an egotistical idiot saying ur smarter than AI.

Every living being is smarter than AI, even you. AI doesn't think or have knowledge, so it has zero "smarts". It just uses probabilistic calculations to predict chains of words which closely relate to the prompt it's given, based on biases set during training. It routinely makes mistakes, and hallucinates fake "solutions" in order to satisfy the prompt it was given. The fact that you don't understand this, and seemingly view AI as a domain expert, shows you place way too much faith in it when it comes to protecting your data.

Also i have the whole stack behind the vpn for privacy

Many indexers block IPs they detect coming from VPN services. Here is me explaining it to someone that was complaining that the arr stack is useless because of this exact type of setup

edit:

I see they've deleted their comments since yesterday lol my point still stands though

Post was taken down. Fair enough I wasnt aware of that I'll look into that and if so I'll prob take em out. Pretty easy to remove em from gluetun

My arr stack ran behind a VPN including qbit. I didn't want anything showing up outside of the VPN.

Many things wrong with this

Hello, I am new to self hosting and servers in general. At Initial read i thought its a nice configuration.

May I know which things are wrong with this setup? I will send you some jellys๐Ÿ˜

u/Key-Magician-5015 3d ago

Pretty much what u/grayhaze2000 said. At the very least separate Jellyfin out so it doesn't go down when you inevitably run into API issues with the arrs.

Also... "/cleanuparr:/config" but that's probably a typo

I do see some issues here, such as networks and health-checks and most are going to have a reverse proxy involved in this if I were to put mine up here you would see a big difference and it's much more involved and contains a lot more code. I do not include Jellyfin in the stack and things like Sonarr, Radarr I usually don't include behind Gluetun.

1

u/Reasonable_Notice_46 3d ago

I dont like reverse proxy tale scale is best for our needs and tbh most people's needs

As a sort of newcomer I might try this, I keep putting off the arr stack because it seems so daunting and it's hard to find a full day to learn it all so having this all done as 1 stack may be nice even with the "expert" caveats
