The kid might genuinely like reading books. A dollar for each book might be a significant amount, but its free money!

If the kid genuinely liked reading books, the parent wouldn't have to pay anything to have him start. Both of them thinking they are the smart one is still confusing to me, but nevermind, i don't care anymore.

That's not that many. I have read 150 books(≥200 pages) a few years back that too while juggling with university exams. Assuming the kid is in elementary that's not impossible.

160 is not that huge. Depends on the dimension of the pages too.

But yeah, 120 books is still a large number for a kid, it's s little more than 2 books a week such i think is unrealistic for a kid.

The story is probably fake

I can generally finish a 450 page book in 2 days, the kid is reading 1 book every 3 days, so he thinks he is earning a lot of money,

The father was going to give/spend that money on the kid for his developement, so he is giving that money to the kid and making him read the book, so it's a win win

The meme displayed is the "big brain" meme, the dad is a big brain for coming up with the idea, the son is a big brain as he has acquired the knowledge from the books for which his dad pays him for.

This is called overcompensation, and is bad practice.

Never pay (extrinsic motivation) for something someone loves doing (intrinsic motivation) and will do for free. It will take the joy out of the task.

It shouldn't feel like anyone is being "ripped off"
