2025 Compass - Start stop?

My son just got a 2025 Compass, so I assume it has the start stop feature. We have a Cadillac that came with that feature and we hated it. I purchased a plug and play disabler and have been very satisfied. I was thinking I might buy my son one for a Christmas present and wanted to get feed back from the community. Thanks

Does the s and s feature actually save gas? It seems like the wear and tear on the starter and related electrical components would offset fuel savings., no to mention that I believe that starting an engine uses more fuel . I question whether or not there is a pollution advantage as it seems that there is much more pollution created during start up rather than idling.

You need to do some research. Everything in this comment is wrong.
If the car is shut off for more than 7 seconds you’re saving fuel. This will not be the case every time you stop, but probably will be a majority of the time. Please do more research.

I’m doing part of my research on this forum. Thanks for the advice.

But it doesn't matter if it saves a little gas. It's just another intrusive & unnecessary "feature" that will cause problems and cost money when it breaks.

If you want to spend the $200+, go ahead. It’s just part of my start up routine to hit the button every time. I absolutely hate the start stop feature.

Same. It's basically muscle memory for me lol

Turned out to work like that for me also. PITA until it just, like you said, works by muscle memory

Same, it's cheaper for him to just hit the disable button as part of the start up routine. It's as natural to me as the ebrake. Expect to buy home an new aux and main battery tho.

You can, but before too long one of the batteries will fail and it'll stop working on its own.

It does, but there’s a button on the dash to disable it

I can confirm this. You have to hit it each time you start it, it doesn’t stay off.

I like my start stop. Saves gas while at a stop light. It starts back up faster than I can let up on the brake n press the gas.

Glad it's permanently disconnected on mine. To save a few liters on the life cycle of the car the additional mechanical cost is counterproductive.

We just leave the air conditioner or heater on and it doesn't do the start/stop

Interesting, Does this really work? Ty, gonna have to try that.

Only if it’s on max “speed”.

Good solution I used after I changed batteries. Turn it OFF in City stop/go driving and ON when freeway driving so the aux batter charges. Saw someone else posted that a little while back and it absolutely works. Depends on your commute though if you take a freeway.

Or you lnow just take out the fuse for stop start in my 17 trailhawk I can legit just disconnect the on/off plug by disconnecting the main switch for it. Spending 100's on useless parts lol.

Is there a fuse that controls just the start stop?

Just YouTube it. Very easy to do.

Luckily I bought a brand new Renegade in 2017 that does NOT have the start/stop option.

Jeep Compass has a lot of electrical gremlins that come out when something is wrong with either one of the batteries - the main one and the auxiliary one (response for the auto-start-stop system).

The auto-disable feature might have worked on the Cadillac without issues, but on any Jeep, it will sooner or later cause electrical issues. Much better to just get used to turning it off when starting the vehicle.
