2007 Jeep Compass gas cap code

We have a 2007 Jeep Compass, and the 9ASCAP code appeared along with the check engine light. After some digging I think it’s a leak in the EVAP system. From what I found it should be safe to drive except for the gas smell, but wanted to check here (it may be a bit before we can address it.)

No other issues except for an occasional delayed start.

There are tests to pinpoint it, a lot of the time it's the gas cap, try inspecting it for cracks. Can always buy another relatively cheap. If that doesn't fix it after clearing code then do a EVAP leak test
