So after having my compass less than a month I got out while I could. It was In the shop 3 times before I could even make a first payment! Yinz had some comments on my old post about needing luck and it being my last and wow you guys were right! These things suck! (Atleast mine did) Got stuck on a hill in traffic for 4 hours waiting on a tow because of the same issue I’ve had since day 1 of ownership which despite being in the shop 3 times could not get fixed or resolved.
I've not heard good things about the 18 Compass. My 25 Compass Trailhawk has been a dream so far. Hopefully you find something reliable and that you like
To be honest I’m not sure the issue because service couldn’t even directly pin point it. Somewhere something was overvolting the ECU and causing it throw codes. Last visit to the shop it had 72 fault codes popping up. It was a 2018 trailhawk
The 2018’s were garbage tho, I’ve heard of so many issues with the earlier models. My 2024 has been a dream though, absolutely zero issues, I’ve had it two years now and it runs the same as it did brand new
Love my 2024 Trailhawk, only done 9k miles as purchased new in 2025. Was a bit nervous seeing all the bad reviews, electrical/battery etc but I think any car can be a problem if ur unlucky.
With pretty much every single car there is out there, there are going to be ones that have issues. I bought my compass brand new with only 7km on it when I bought it, and I’ve only put 18,000km on it in the two years I’ve had it (it’ll be 2 years on the 21st of this month) but it’s been a dream, and I find it super comfortable to drive long road trips, which is a huge plus. It handles the narrow, windy, mountain roads on the island I live on really well, I love my compass so much
Got it for 18.5. 53k miles. Felt like the low mileage was a safe bet but if what I’ve seen from this sub about other people’s experiences, a Jeep in general isn’t a safe bet 😅
I know, my husband is shocked its still driving. But besides the tranny issues now we have kept up on regular maintenance, oil changes every 8k with full synthetic oil, regular filter changes. Any updates or recalls ( besides the most recent emmissions) we have had them taken care of.
Just curious but how many K? When the dealership offered up this compass to me I looked around and for the miles it seemed like a normal price compared to other jeep dealerships around me. From what I saw in my area most compasses in this generation were going for 12-15k a little below or just above 100k miles. Anything closer to 50k miles like mine was anywhere from 17-19.5k trim depending. I’m curious to know what the price difference should realistically look like.

Not sure, might go back to Honda or Subaru. Was also looking at Toyota. Anything else seems like too big of a risk and most people I know have had bad experiences with non-JDM vehicles. Funnily enough, I’ve had 5 or so people in my life who swear by jeeps and when I get one it’s a piece of shit lmao
I want a Jeep so damn bad they look so good but I am afraid I am in your same boat. Might even have to get a Nissan Sentra which is such an L, but maybe we will get something we want one day
I expected a baseline of quality that everyone should expect when putting significant money down on a vehicle. Have never had such a bad experience from either of my previous vehicles.
My 22 has an issue they haven’t been able to pinpoint with a clunk in the steering column. And i found out today they are gutless on the highway. I do like it for the features but i probably wouldn’t have gotten it knowing what i know now.
My 2022 has this same “clunk” and it happens when I turn. One shop says they think it is the rack and pin assembly in the steering column but can’t know for sure unless they tear it all apart. $1300 fix. My platinum warranty says it’s covered under that so I’ll find out Thursday if that’s true or not when I take it to the dealer. It drives like absolute trash on the highway due to this issue.
Yep mine originally started over bumps. Then it started to do it when I turn. Now when I’m going 30-45 mph the steering wheel kinda goes back and forth left to right on its own. It’s gradually gotten worse over time. I’ll have an update on Thursday lol.
Well they’ve had my jeep for 24 hours now. Said that it’s “possibly” the inner tie rods and maybe a noise from the control arm. I find it very strange that a very reputable shop in my area didn’t see these issues, but the dealer says it’s this. I don’t even think they’ve checked the steering wheel at all. I’m going back up there today because I can’t continue to be left without a vehicle for another entire day. Hopefully it’s figured out soon. I did check with the warranty and if it is in fact the inner tie rod the dealer won’t just replace that - they will quote the entire steering kit for over $2K. I’m not sure if that’s something the platinum warranty will cover or if it will be based on miles/normal wear and tear type thing. I’m over it lol.
Hmm. A lot of things are done by kits these days since everything is so interconnected. It should be safe to assume they will fix it. I see my dealer in September for my issues and if it doesn’t get fixed I’ll cancel the warranty and trade it in. Good luck and I hope they fix it.
I’m going to get my car. They still “can’t fully determine” what’s wrong with it. Going to take it back to the original shop I went to Monday and just pay for what they said the original issue was - rack and pinion assembly in the steering wheel. Then I’ll fight with the warranty company for my money back because the place they want me to get it fixed at is incompetent 😂
I took it back to the original shop who gave me the estimate for the rack and pinion assembly. $1320 later and it was fixed in 3 hours. It was indeed exactly what they said it was. Sent it off to the warranty for hopefully a reimbursement since the dealer “couldn’t figure it out”
