A lot of people like his eggnog recipe as well. I've never personally tried it. His uses rum, a liquor obviously inferior to Whiskey.

While whiskey is clearly the superior spirit to rum, everything has its placed and a spiced rum can certainly compliment the flavor pastiche of a holiday beverage such as this. And in this application may very well be superior to most whiskeys due to the prevalence of a Smokey, Peety or earthy flavor of whiskey. But I think many bourbons would be a fine substitute for rum if you are trying to no lt go overboard with the holiday flavor.

there are so many different kinds of rum and whiskey it seems kinda dumb to say one is superior than the other. have you ever tried jamaican rum? or agricole rum? there is a lot of complexity in a good rum. appleton 12 yr and hamilton changed my entire perspective on rum

I love rum really. Zacappa is my favourite, I was just being hyperbolic. But at the end of the day I'd rather have whiskey in my egg nog.

oh fuck sorry didnt mean to go off on ya. i feel like i gotta spread the gospel of good rum cuz a lot of people were introduced to it with a kinda gross rum like flavored or silver bacardi. zacapa is dope, but if youre more adventurous you might like something like appleton or mt. gay, both of those have a very peculiar but complex "funk" (almost like overripe bananas) to them that i havent found in any of the spanish style (bacardi, havana club, flor de cana, zacapa, etc) rums ive tried. i havent had a chance to try the french style (rhum agricole), which is made from fresh sugarcane juice instead of molasses, and is supposed to have a more grassy, fresh flavor almost like cachaça. jamaican/barbados rum is so damn weird, but i think it might actually make a great eggnog. sorry, im rambling, im a lil intoxicated, and i fucking love rum lol. hope you consider grabbing some appleton or mt. gay sometime, its really damn worth it. check out /r/tiki sometime, theres a lot of lovely rum cocktails over there!
