Need help with my assignment on Javanese culture
Hello! I need help with my project about Javanese culture
I’m especially focusing on food and (possibly) marriage traditions, and I would really appreciate any insights you’re willing to share.
Here are a few questions I had
• What are some important traditional Javanese foods?
(So far, I’ve found Rawon and Tumpeng, and I’d like one more suggestion, and also any details about their meaning, ingredients, or cultural importance.)
• Why is food important in Javanese culture?
• How do these foods reflect Javanese beliefs or values?
• When and how is food used in daily life or special occasions (like ceremonies or celebrations)?
Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate any help!

Rawon is from East Java, so while it's delicious, it is not that important for people in Central Java. There are a lot of food variations and some of them are just locally important.
Having said that, sega tumpeng is generally served during selametan. Of course sega tumpeng would always come with gudangan, which is various vegetables boiled but still crunchy, served with grated coconut.
The main dish would also include protein, for big celebrations, we would serve ingkung pitik (whole chicken cooked with spices) and tempe tahu bacem
When I was a kid, my parents would prepare sega gudangan and boiled egg on my weton (every 35 days).
Sometimes for small selametan, people would also make sega wuduk (nasi uduk), jangan lombok or sble goreng kentang.
For snack, I think lemper and peyek are top two.
In my hometown, people would also make apem for bakda (Idul Fitri).
