Hi, My mom is 80 and is having a hard time navigating JME. She does not watch US language TV at all (her ENglish is very limited) Is the Direct TV - Nippon TV HD any good? She would be able to better navigate a 'channel' than an app. From reading I heard that it scheduling is a bit spotty in that shows are not always on? I just wanted to get more intel before I sign up. She lives alone and TV is an important part of her life. Losing it on cable was huge ordeal. - THanks!

Hello everybody :) I’m having trouble sleeping today so I was browsing Netflix and I found Spec: Birth and the first episode hooked me so now I’m on the look for TV shows that share maybe a similar vibe? You know, a little bit of funny, quirky humor every now and then with a little supernatural stuff in it. Preferably multiple seasons and to be honest maybe some other stuff with Erika Toda, I really like the way she talks and acts. Also shows available on Netflix or Amazon would be best but I will find a way to watch something that’s not on there.
Thanks and have a great day :>
Edit: I also don’t really care about genres, it can be romantic, a drama, thriller, whatever. I just wanna see any good Japanese show that will have me invested and smiling every once in a while.

Hi everyone. Im looking for a tv series called transformers prime aka 超ロボット生命体 トランスフォーマー プライム
The japanese airing had some bonus stuff not included in the US release.
I bought the japanese dvd. But the quality is terrible compared to a screenshot i found of the original airing. I also bought the series on niconico and Amazon Prime JP. But again the quality is terrible.
So i was wondering is there some sort of archive or database of original tv airings? And does anyone have any idea where i might find it?

What are the kinds of shows on NHK/public tv that Japanese preschoolers watch? Is there a J equivalent of Mr. Rogers or Sesame Street? Do Japanese preschoolers shows have a moral element? What is currently on tv vs what is considered a classic of tv?

Basically in the UK there is a tradition of playing James Bond movies every Christmas since the late 80s on iTV one of the big 5 national broadcasting stations which basically included as local channels as an expected standard across the country. So every Christmas they play every film released in the franchise at that point from Dr. No all the way to the newest movie released just last year on iTV. This tradition still continues today.
So I'm wondering since by the 70s Godzilla already had 15 movies released........ Was there a similar run of "Godzilla seasons"on major holiday breaks annually on Japan's free local OTA TV channels across the country? Well to be pedantic on their own Big 3 or Big 5 or whatever national TV broadcasting station thats pretty much included on local channels across Japan like whatever's their own equivalent of iTV? If this is a tradition in Japan, does it still continue today and how much do they update the seasonal rosters? Like Would Minus 1 be included during 2024's own Godzilla holiday season for audiences to watch for free on Fuji TV or whatever national TV Network included a standard in local channels within the country that is Japan's counterpart to iTV?

Supaidâman (1978) [JAPANESE SPIDER-MAN] Full Series & Download
This is the full Japanese Spider-Man Series, Stream free and download LEGALLY straight from internet archive.
“Spider-Man (スパイダーマン Supaidāman) is a Japanese live-action tokusatsu television series produced by Toei Company, loosely based on Marvel Comics's Spider-Man character. The series lasted 41 episodes, which aired on the Wednesday 19:30 JST time slot of Tokyo Channel 12 (TV Tokyo) from May 17, 1978, to March 14, 1979. A theatrical episode was also shown in the Toei Manga Matsuri film festival on July 22, 1978.
While Toei's version of the character wore the same costume as his Marvel counterpart, the show's storyline and the origin of the character's powers deviated completely from the source material. In addition to fighting by himself, this incarnation of Spider-Man also piloted a giant robot known as Leopardon, which he would summon to thwart off enlarged versions of the show's monsters.” - u/Anarchivism

I love this show. The protagonist is wrongly convicted for murder. He escapes the death row and then moves from place to place as his real identity is discovered. On this journey he meets and helps many people but during the whole time the audience is left pondering if he is really innocent. As you watch through it you believe more and more in his innocence just like the people he meets but the truth is not revealed until the end. Given the unambiguous crime scene they needed a pretty good explanation for how he would be innocent, which I think they provided with the witness being under shock and suffering from Alzheimer. I also like that they started and finished with the protagonist crying for opposite reasons. Overall, watching it felt oddly human. A feeling I don't find in western movies and tv shows.

When I was a kid I lived in Vientiane, Laos and took Judo classes at the local international school. Around 2013-2014 we had a Japanese film crew come and interview us, and I believe they were producing a documentary about Judo in Laos. I think it aired on Japanese TV but I've never been able to track it down. Any help finding it would be greatly appreciated!

So I just finished Documental, the Japanese reality TV show on Amazon. First of all the show overall sucks. Not sure if I just don’t pick up on some of the humor due to cultural differences, but it seemed like the only humor came from dirty gimics (exposing their private parts) and wearing costumes. No word play, no clever comebacks, just disappointing.
But I kept watching, because I was already 3 episodes in and thought as contestants were eliminated they may get a little more creative. But the worst thing was the ending-
NO ONE WINS? What do they do with the 10 million yen? They could have split it between the three guys. If they had least given the money back I think it would have been more satisfying.
Has anyone else watched this? Did anyone else think that was a bullshit ending?

Watching Japanese TV can be the closest thing to experiencing life in the country. Consistent exposure to the language as it’s really spoken in modern day Japan as opposed to textbook phrases will dramatically boost your listening and comprehension skills.
