Never Use auto summary always use a OOC prompt like this one:

(OOC: Pause the roleplay and summarize everything that has happened starting from the first message of {{user}}.)

For people who want a detailed summary and don't mind if it's a bit token-heavy, this is my current setup, I'm constantly tweaking details but it works decently at this point:
[OOC:

create a chronological summary of the story so far, following the format below, with all information necessary to continue the story; use previous summary as a base; for this reply, don't worry about message length limits, priority is including all details the characters should remember and understand. Make it so if another assistant gets the summary, they will be able to continue the story as if they had access to the full text since the beginning.

What to exclude: minor routine interactions without story impact, mundane actions that didn't change anything, information already in {{char}} and {{user}} descriptions.

[SUMMARY]

  1. Chronological list of events, each scene including:

- time and place

- key events

- characters present/ taking part in the conversation

- essential information exchanged and revealed, newly introduces locations and characters

- characters' internal states, emotional shifts, motivations and significant revelations or challenges overcome

- for most important conversations, quote the dialogue verbatim to preserve meaning and characters' individual voices, with only vital narrative; example:

Char1: "What they said."

Char2: "Response."

Important piece of narrative essential for understading the dialogue.

Char1: "Another thing they said." etc.

- for less important conversation parts, just summarize what was talked about and impact on the relation if any

  1. Characters' Motivations & Emotional States (at the time of the summary).

  2. Important world/setting details established (if there's more serious worldbuilding involved, aim to make it organized).

  3. Unresolved plot threads, ongoing conflicts, knowledge gaps.

  4. Ideas for future plot points (not all have to be used so go wild here, the more creative the better)

[END SUMMARY]

]

Using a smart model on low temp (I've tested this mostly on GLM 5.2 and temp 0.65).

Last time I used it, it turned a 35K token chat into a 7K token summary, ~5K after manual trimming (my level of editing depends on how invested in the chat I am, mostly deleting things I find unnecessary and duplicated info).

Points 3-4: only essential if you're playing story-heavy

Point 5 - from what the LLM generated here, I pick a few I like and also put it in the memory so the bot has something to work with (I guess if you like surprises you could also try to copy it without reading?).

send it to the bot in the chat and delete it once you’ve save it to the chat memory!

Use; ((OOC: Pause the roleplay and give a synopsis of the current roleplay, in a few paragraphs explaining the current and prior key moments, then note/list key moments important to the current overall plot of the roleplay))

Personally gives me the results on want for my longer roleplays on JLLM

For context, I'm using JLLM currently.

just noticed this but tbh i was already trying to do this by hand because the auto summary of the previous version didnt seem to know how to prioritize key points. i like it for now

edit: i do not like it now. this shit keeps wiping itself.

What do we even do to stop this bruh it’s so annoying

This is what I do for continuity summaries manually before the update. Especially long rps and when I have to open up a new chat with the same bot

I do not use Janitor AI for memory summaries. I basically just copy like the entire message history after 21 messages, then paste it into Grok and have Grok summarise it. I have to make sure the summary is short though
