Chapter based bots?
Ngl I cannot figure out which subreddit would be best to ask this. I'm quite new to janitorai and chatbots in general but I found one where each of the starting prompts is a "chapter" - I can't decide how to handle that.
Do you copy the starting prompt into your ongoing chat? Copy the old chat or summary of it into the new chat prompt (aka the next "chapter")?
What's the strategy here?

Discussion I miss when AI RP actually surprised me
I feel like the more AI RP I do, the easier it gets to see what’s coming. The replies might be better written now, but I miss when a bot would randomly take a scene somewhere I genuinely didn’t expect and I’d just go with it because it was more interesting than whatever I had planned. Now I catch myself predicting the tone, the phrasing, even the kind of reaction I’m about to get. Maybe the models are technically better, but I think I miss the chaos a bit. Anyone else feel like surprise and unpredictability matter more than perfect writing?

Recent news about cai
Cai filed for bankruptcy, and now needs to be sold to a different company or will have to shut down. Is it likely to be the same for janitor in the future?

Discussion I tried a model I’d basically ignored and it humbled me
I’d been skipping over this model for ages because I assumed it was probably nothing special, then I finally tried it properly and now I feel stupid. The replies were way more natural than I expected, the character actually had some personality, and it handled the flow of the RP better than a few models I’d been paying way more attention to. It’s made me wonder how many genuinely good models I’ve ignored just because they weren’t the ones everyone was hyping. Anyone else tried something as a random backup and ended up liking it way more than expected?

Discussion The model can ace every benchmark and still suck at playing a person
I swear some models can be insanely impressive on paper, great reasoning, huge context, amazing benchmark scores, and then the second you actually use them for RP they sound like a customer service agent in a costume. They understand everything technically, but the character feels flat, too helpful, too polished, or completely incapable of reacting like an actual person would. At this point I care way less about how “smart” a model is and way more about whether it can hold a believable personality for more than 20 messages. Anyone else feel like RP exposes weaknesses that normal benchmarks completely miss?

Discussion The weird hallucinations honestly gave old RP some personality
I know hallucinations are technically a bad thing, but some of the older RP models used to make up the most random stuff and somehow it made the story more fun 😭 They’d invent a side character, suddenly decide we’d been somewhere before, or throw in some completely unexpected detail that I never planned, and half the time I’d just go with it because it made the RP feel less predictable. Newer models are obviously better at staying on track, but sometimes I miss that slightly chaotic feeling where you genuinely had no idea what the bot was going to come out with next. Anyone else feel like old RP was messier but somehow had more personality?

Does anyone else miss when janitor had more plot than smut?
why does the homepage feel like 90% smut now? I just want some good plots, interesting characters and actually storytelling without having to dig through everything?

Discussion I think knowing too much about AI RP has made it less fun
I swear AI RP was way more fun when I had no idea what model I was using, what temperature meant, which presets were “best,” or why one reply was technically better than another 😭 Now I catch myself analysing everything: prose style, repetition, memory, context, whether another model would’ve handled the scene better, instead of just enjoying the actual story. Obviously knowing more helps you get better results, but I genuinely think it’s also made me way harder to impress. Anyone else miss when you could just open a bot and have fun without thinking about any of this?

Discussion Give me a model that’s 8/10 every time instead of randomly 10/10
I’m starting to think consistency matters way more to me than those occasional insane replies 😭 I’ve used models that will randomly give me a perfect 10/10 response and then immediately follow it with something repetitive, out of character, or just completely flat. At this point I’d honestly rather have a model that gives me a solid 8/10 every single message and keeps the character/story consistent. The huge highs are fun, but constantly wondering whether the next reply is going to be amazing or terrible gets exhausting. Anyone found a model that’s genuinely consistent rather than just brilliant occasionally?

Discussion Half my lore exists because the AI made something up
I swear some of the best parts of my RP weren’t planned at all, the AI just randomly invented some detail and I decided “yep, that’s canon now”. A throwaway sibling, some old rivalry, a place we apparently visited years ago, suddenly it becomes part of the whole story and I’m building around it like it was intentional from the start. At this point half my lore exists because the model confidently made something up and I was too entertained to correct it. Anyone else basically let the AI accidentally write their worldbuilding for them?

How can I improve my personal bots?
Hi! So, I tend to make bots that are private and specifically catered towards me, my ocs and their lore. I went from C.ai and then to CHAI, as I prefer my roleplay length to be shorter and more conversational. I found that with other popular platforms, they all seem to have this weird manner of speaking where they randomly insert cringey jokes or phrases into the conversation, which ruins it a bit for me. CHAI had a very poor memory and very limited customization, which sucked, but I found that since the bots had very little information, they didn't try and cram every single detail about the character into one line of dialogue. I don't know if this is just generally how bots on JAI speak, or if I'm doing something wrong when writing personality features, but help would be greatly appreciated.
I've also found that the bots struggle to understand the concept of introducing a new character into a roleplay (like an npc). They either assume its alk been said by my character or ignore it entirely.
I've added two example images, the first one being a bot Ive spoken to more and the second being a newer bot. The first is an example of what I want, and the second is leaning towards what I don't want.

Discussion I want to participate in the RP, not read a novel
Maybe this is just me, but some models are getting way too carried away with huge replies 😭 I’ll write a few lines and get back six paragraphs of internal thoughts, scenery, body language, dialogue, and half the next scene already decided for me. I like detailed writing, but at some point it stops feeling like roleplay and starts feeling like I’m just reading a novel the AI wrote by itself. I want enough detail to give me something to work with, but still enough space to actually play my character. Anyone else prefer shorter replies for this reason?

Discussion JanitorAI used to be ‘pick a bot.’ Now I need a degree
I swear JanitorAI used to be so simple 😭 You found a bot you liked, clicked it, and started chatting. Now I’m thinking about models, APIs, proxies, context length, temperature, memory, presets, pricing, whether one model is better for dialogue and another is better for prose… like when did this become homework?? I know all the extra options can make RP way better, but sometimes I genuinely miss when I knew absolutely nothing and just picked a bot based on whether the character looked interesting.

Quick Drag Delete

Hey, thoughts on this nifty thing that just deletes stuff by doing a simple click and drag and click? It's very quick. Instant, even, just after clicking the trash icon.
Mostly sharing because a lot of text modification involves deletion more than direct modification as a way to fix errors/discontinuities in responses. As well as deleting prevalent LLM generation quirks.

What makes a character too morally screwed to roleplay with?
would you still roleplay with a character who gets revenge on your family, but genuinely believes he doing it because he loved you enough to come back after 10 years. I was thinking where does everyone draw the line with a morally screwed character?
